This place is overpriced, slow service, cold tasteless food. Of course the beach is beautiful, but you don't need to go here to enjoy that.

“Overrated bar at a nice location”
Reviewed December 5, 2013

This is a very famous bar and I have no idea why. It's great that it's on the beach but this doesn't make it that unique if you think about it. It's big and rash and just another Kenyan bar.

40 Thieves may just be the best place to do everything while on holiday. And I know its a bar (predominantly). But during our stay in Diani we had breakfast, lunch, dinner and an epic disco all at the same place. This is no small feat. Having the Dive Team just next door is an added bonus and the beach is truly spectacular. Meals were great. Service was good and the Disco was Maaaaaaadddd. All in all simply wonderful.

“Unwelcoming place on a pretty site ”
Reviewed November 30, 2013 via mobile

Shame really about 40 Thieves. It used to be a classic hangout on what must be one of Kenya's greatest beaches. They still thrive on their location and reputation. The latter will soon go to the dogs unless they change their attitude towards paying guests. Their two tier pricing (for residents who get discount and tourists who pay premium prices) is discriminatory and shows their condescending attitude towards visitors. We were made to pay cash upfront for lousy Jägerbombs served in plastic cups by waiters in tattered t-shirts. The food was expensive and unimaginative.

They should look up the word hospitable in the dictionary and remind themselves that they're partaking in a sector of the economy known as 'hospitality industry'.

Luckily there are pleasant alternatives now up and down Diani beach.
