Stilts backpackers is one of the best and coziest hostels i've been to! (And i've been around traveling in South- and Central America, only living in hostels).
I guess it's the friendly and family rich feeling I loved the most. But the hostel is placed in a calm area surrounded by loads of jungely trees with monkeys, lizards and bush babys everywhere. So even though there's a rode near by and one of the best restaurants/clubs in Mombasa also close, the trees and bushes shuts the noise out, and you go to sleep with the sounds of crickets and other night living creatures.
You can choose to live in a treehouse above the ground with other people (a dorm), or you can have a cottage for your self. Me, myself lived in a cottage with the friend I was traveling with, so we had a private bathroom and shower. Although it didn't always feel that private cuz it was outside and we had monkeys visit us often. But that was really an amazing feeling to have a shower in what felt like the jungle with warm breezes on your skin, singing birds and one and an other monkey friend coming to keep you company.

The food on stilts were amazing!. And cheap. We tried loads of other restaurants in the area, but non of them were even close in comparison to the food at stilts.

It's a very simple hostel though, as you probably hear. But they have warm and cold water (which surprised me), electricity, Wi Fi and safety boxes in a safety room where there were always someone working.
They also had a safety crew wandering about the area so I felt as secured as I possible could.

The crew at stilts were super friendly and learned everyone's names quickly, so after only a week at stilts, it felt like leaving parts of your family behind when it was time to travel back home.
I really only have great things to say about stilt backpackers hostel, cuz it made my time in Kenya what it was, Totally amazing!

The rooms at Stilts are nicely set out and the toilets and showers are large and clean. The stairs up to our room were thin metal bars rather than steps so caution is required when going up or down at night.

The room lacked a bit of privacy as there was no blinds or cover over the door which is a metal grille over wood. Also not having curtains/blinds on the windows meant that a lot of dirt was blown into the bed although being seen is not an issue there.

The bar area is nice and is great for meeting people and chilling out and the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was simple but decent and the portions a good size.

A good place for travellers but perhaps less for couples, although spending the early evening on the balcony with the monkeys was a great experience.

Stayed in a tent for about $6/ night. Worth it considering I came home from forty thieves bar (across the street and on the beach) late at night and woke up early to hit the beach again. The food was average and affordable. They let me borrow a towel all weekend and had lock boxes to keep my valuables in. Hot water showers were lovely but unnecessary as it is so hot in Mombasa that you'll do anything to escape the heat. The bush baby feeding at 7pm every night makes the place irresistible. definitely worth visiting even if you aren't able to get a room, just stop by for a drink and mingle with other travelers!

Andy has 8 "houses" on stilts in the forest. They are basic, twin or double, cabins, with lots of air. Monkeys dart around, so do not leave any food in your cabin. Showers and toilets are in a block outside, but very clean. There are also two cottages, with en suite semi outside bathrooms.
This is a very laid back place, with a good restaurant/bar. Very fair prices. Kids love it as well. Great staff.
200 meters from forty thieves bar, with beach access.
Thoroughly recommended.

Just what I needed, set back from the road and nicely shaded by the surrounding jungle, Stilts offered a fantastic place to relax and meet great people (and play a bit of UNO). The staff was fantastic and even arranged a BBQ. I stayed in the cottage which was really nice, simple and clean with a great outdoor shower where you could (kinda) wash the sea salt off and watch the monkeys play. Thanks Jane for a great stay, and I will def be back so watch out!!

Stilts had been recommended to us by friends who had stayed there last year and I'm so glad we listened to their recommendation. We arrived after a slightly stressful taxi ride from Kilifi to be greeted by Jane (the manager) who was really friendly and welcoming even though there were 10 of us for her to deal with! We had orignally only planned to stay for two nights but we loved it so much after only a few hours we decided to stay for 4 nights instead.
For the 10 of us we had two treehouses each for three people and one cottage for four people and they were all in great condition and really comfortable. The only problem we had was with the monkeys that are so sneaky and will find any possible way to get into your hut! They managed to get into one of the treehouses and the cottage and left some pretty nasty presents...There are loads of warning signs telling you not to leave food in your hut and as long as you follow these you should be fine.
The bar and relaxing area is also on stilts and we spent a lot of our time hanging out in the shade, eating and drinking. The staff are all extremely friendly and helpful and the food is lovely and good value. Stilts Backpakcers is in a great location, a 5 minute walk from the supermarket/bank/shops and only a 5 minute walk away from Diani beach which has beautiful white sands and Forty Thieves Bar for drinks/snacks. We found Forty Thieves a little overpriced so tended to eat at Stilts and also went to Bidi Badu for a really nice, and great value, curries. We didnt get a chance to experience the nightlife but were told by others staying at Stilts for longer that it was great.
We didnt have any issues with security and Jane was really helpful offering us the managers safe when all the others were full. It is the perfect spot to relax and laze on the beach all day which is exactly what we wanted to do! Would definitely recommend and go back if I get a chance!

Room Tip: Either the cottages or the treehouses are both great.

Stilts was a great relaxing place to stay if you are travelling along the Kenyan coast and hit Diani. The treehouses were a fantastic experience, and our friends who stayed in the cottages also had a nice comfy stay. The staff, especially Jane, are always helpful and friendly. The kitchen staff are fab, the food is great (especially the money saver - good taste and great value for money). It's a 10 minute walk to the beach, which is amazing! As it is an eco place, there's lots of nature to see - monkeys, baboons, bush babies, ssssnakes, red squirrels.... was a really great place and encountered no problems!! Definitely would stay here again if I was back in Diani.
