“Nice, but watch your money....”

Please, don't put anything in the safety boxes!Everything got stolen via spare key - cash, credit cards, passport, driver's license, etc. The owner was very nonchalant about it and eventually I also found out that it happened already more than 8 times (!!!) over the last few months! Police just said: NOT ANOTHER INCIDENCE!!! So hence, only a poor rating from me even though the set-up is nice...

I ended a almost 4 week trip in Kenya here at Stilts, and it was epic! Spent 3 nights in a tree house banda and met some amazing people for all over. Common among backpackers, this place is across the street from the beach with easy access to matatu transportation, and most all western amenities. Power was a little spotty during the day, but they do have battery powered lights. Common shower and bathroom facilities were cleaned daily and night security was comforting. 40 Thieves restaurant is across the way on the beach (a little pricey food and drink) but an easy congregating spot for the group. Stilts provide lock boxes with keys, but you can provided your own...like with a combo if you are unsure about the safety. I recommend using them because the monkeys CAN and WILL get into the tree houses and cottages if they so please. Do not leave food or really anything out that suits their fancy! Overall, a must in Diani!

Enjoy and tell Andy hi from Oregon.

Contacted owner before arrival and no problems at all. He organised a taxi to collect me at the airport and from then on I felt very much at home. Reception/bar/restaurant area is great to relax in day and night. Food is simple, cheap and good. I stayed for a week in a Treehouse and was very happy, especially with the monkeys for company :) The mattress on the bed was well loved but compared with all of the other great features of this place it didn't really matter. The owner is relaxed as are the staff and this makes for a good place to 'chill'. Highly recommended if you are looking for a relaxing, chilled holiday but also with night spots and a beach very close by.

We stayed at Stilts for 2 weeks, and had a really great time. The rooms are all very nice, there's cottages with bathrooms attached (hot water and monkey provided), fans and nets. There's 'treehouses' which also have nets and a small veranda, they're a bit cheaper to stay in. And there's a campsite, which you can use with your own or their tents. Recommended only when you're on a tight budget; it's hot at night!!! But, the cheapest you can get. When you stay in a treehouse or tent you can use the shared bathrooms, which are big, clean and have hot water. They're nicely decorated too ;-)
The restaurant has simple but good food, and the staff is very nice. There's security guards for safety walking around, and a private safe for your valuables. Across the street is an internet cafe and restaurants, the supermarket is a short walk or mataturide away. And, you can álmost see the ocean from a treehouse :-)
We had a great time, and would recommend the place to any backpacker visiting Mombasa/Diani.

Room Tip: best value are the treehouses!

We stayed four nights at stilts and had a great time. It is primite but the location is great, just in the middle of the nature! The cottages offer a bit more comfort than the bandas though...

Unfortunately we had a quite bad experience with safety as we had quite a lot of money stolen from the safe boxes (with 'special very safe' key which you couldn't copy and where only the owner had the doucle of...). Those things can happen but when the owner doesn't make any effort to see what happened or show any remorse, you do kind of leave the place with a bad feeling...

So conclusion: great place but don't bring any valuables with you...

Mini huts on stilts with only room for a bed (or two). The hut had no AC/fan but was breezy nevertheless because of the stilts (~2m above ground) and the chicken-wire built walls.

The restrooms & shower is located in a building not far away and had backpacker standards (clean and with hot water). Reception and bar is a nice hang-out place in a separate bungalow also elevated.

A good place to live a few nights if you think the outside is where you will spend your time. Walking distance to the real nightlife in Diani.
