My mother and I went with Pilli Pipa last week. The whole experience from start to finsih was superb. The very friendly driver picked us up in Likoni where my mother lives and drove us to the jetty/port where you get onto a small boat that takes you out to the dhow. The staff on board were amzingly proffessional and friendly. I have been scuba diving for many years and whilst I didn't dive on this trip, I can say the snorkeling was outstanding! 2 x 45 minute trips.
3 Dolphins
3 turtles
A massive white & black lobster
1 Lion fish
1 Scorpion fish
A blue spotted sting ray
3 Octopus (in rocks)
Clams
1 little eel
Loads of big schools of fish
quite a few big fish (parrot fish was the only one I knew)
Trumpet fish, including a gorgeous yellow one
1 Trigger fish carrying coral
Sea slug, little tiny colorful thing
Bat fish x a million
A massive puffer fish - about a meter in length (unpuffed)
Beautiful electric blue fish
Lots of brightly coloured soft & hard coral & brightly coloured fish!
Crown of thorns
Blue star fish

We then went for lunch at a beautiful place where we had crab and other seafood.

The staff where we had lunch were also fantastic.

I'll upload pictures at a later date.

Fantastic day trip out, brilliant staff and a perfect memory.

We booked this trip through jt safaris. It is a good hr drive to Shimoni, close to the border of Tanzania, to catch the Dhow. We boarded Monsoon and set off. The staff are extremely friendly, we managed to spot dolphins, 7 of them. After a while we had our first snorkelling session. The experienced divers went off 1st then the experienced snorkellers went off. The not so experienced stayed in a group and some of the staff pulled them on orange safety rings so they saw lots of things. One couple from nairobi on their honeymoon had never snorkelled and throughly enjoyed it. We then had another session further along. the experience snorkellors swam with the dolphins. We had plenty of drinks on board and had a lovely lunch of soup, fresh crab, fish, rice, veg etc drinks all included in price. The sea was choppy on the way to the restaurant for lunch. The ladies who served the food sang to us before we ate which was lovely. We saw sting ray, puffer fish, turtles, all manner of fish and the coral was fascinating. It was a completely different world under water. It was a full day and we all returned back to our hotel happy and shattered.

having been on cheaper day dhow trips this is worth the extra money -the guys on the dhow cannot do enough to help you all really friendly. they come round & check your snorkelling equipment & wash your masks ready for use. we decided to do a dive & they had the equipment on the boat even though we hadn't booked.the briefing given by Yatin explained everything that would happen on the day. the food in the restaurant looked really simple but was so tasty ! the only downside was they didn't allow you to stay in the restaurant for very long which has a lovely view & i have to say the last snorkelling trip did seem very rushed -not sure if they ran out of time ?
