If you visit Mombasa or Diani Beach, then you have to visit Ali Barbour's Cave Restaurant.

They picked us up from our hotel which makes it really convenient to get to. A nice welcome from a Masai warrior and then a pre-meal drink from the extensive cocktail menu.

As soon as you enter the restaurant the cave setting hits you. It's absolutely fantastic and has to be seen. The lighting around the cave is excellent and very romantic.

The food was superb. It's roughly UK prices but the portions are very generous and the duck was probably the best duck I've ever had. I wish I took a picture of it because you wouldn't believe the size.

Overall this was one of the most romantic places I've ever been and the service and quality of the food matched it.

A must visit!

We didn't do much research into our trip to Mombasa so had no clue of where to go - we were recommended to visit Ali Barbour's by the hotel reception - we were a bit sick of the repetitive all inclusive buffet by this point! We were picked up by the restaurant in a free shuttle bus and were completely taken aback by the atmosphere - we got a table under the stars - perfect for a romantic dinner for our honeymoon. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone. Saw a few people have the crepe flambé - cooked at your table - we would have definitely ordered them for the experience had we not been too full! 7000 shillings for two people- two courses and a beer each so perhaps a little on the pricey side but we both thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere & ambience.

Excellent abience. Cave setting is unique. Food was good though portions seemed small (I say seem because I ordered garlic prawns, when the plate came i thought it was small but by the time I was done with that and dessert I couldnt move). Cocktails were not good though - could hardly taste the alcohol and fruit juice mixes were sour - had the ali barbour special and a mojito (mojito had too much lime and too much mint). Masai at the door seemed tired - welcome was a bit dry @ 7.30pm! Had the crepe flambet for dessert, waiter prepared it by the table - was lovely preparation and presentation. Chocolate ice cream was not good but strawberry was excellent followed by vanilla . Great dining experience all in all. There were 5 of us at dinner and everyone was happy with their meal.
