“very dis-appointed”
Reviewed September 22, 2009

This was our third time to Tsilivi, (usually stay at the Zante Maris, but it was fully booked)Didnt really know what to expect having read all the reviews and i have to say we were dis-appointed. Unfortunately we were allocated a ground floor room looking right into the pool bar. We had requested a better room but it was fully booked. The room was cleaned every day and adequate towel changes but was dark and no view at all! The cost of the air-conditioning was far too expensive, 100 euros for 2 weeks. The planet apts down the road were charging 40 for 2 weeks! so we were too hot at night!.
The location is poor, we expected the hill due to what we had read but not like it was! You have to tackle the hill even to nip to the shops and no bar on route! Food ok at the bar but again not cheap, we went to the beach most days and ate down on the beach front restaurants. The cats are gorgeous that are at the hotel and very friendly and cheeky! the highlight of the hotel!!. im sure those who stay and get a good room and view will have had a different experience but its a massive gamble. 4 out of 16 studios look into the bar. For an extra £300 next year you can stay at the Zante Maris (we've already booked!) with free air con and B&B and nice views, sorry Ariadne but just not worth the money! Tsilivi still fantastic though, food great! people great! loved Piero's, Apollon, Athena, Nemesis to name a few, Level bar guys are great! cant wait to see you next year!

I agree with most of the remarks made about these apartments, but beware.
I booked my break over the internet with Skytours/Thomson and it was not cheep considering that the apartments are up a steep hill.My main moan is the fact that when i got to the place, i went to get the air conditioning turned on and a safety deposit box.
I have been to Tsilivi 7 times, so i know there is always a payment for these which is extra to the holiday. I went to the bar and asked for the above and was then told for 1 week it was going to be 102 euro.I thought it was a mistake and had to ask twice to make sure that i had heard him right. This was a lot of money to add on which was a extra hidden cost. If the cost had been published on the internet, i would not have considered this place.

have just arrived home from the most relaxing holiday. the hotel is the best, ultra clean and very friendly. very small and family run. helena and costas with their son yiannis and daughter in law pamela. every room has a sea view even on the ground floor, the pool area is spotless and there are always plenty of sunbeds. because it is so small everyone talks to each other and new friendships are forged. we went last year and met up with the same lovely people this year. helena and costas do all the cooking at the pool bar and it is always enjoyable (and big portions) pamela and yiannis run the bar and it stays open till the last man leaves!! the hill is steep but hey thats a small price to pay for the view kefalonia to the left and greece to the right and the sunrises are wonderful as are the sunsets. we are seriously thinking of booking up for next year. at the bottom of the hill are two supermarkets and loads of restaurants and bars. the hotel must have the best views in zante. would definately recommend it.

Just returned from 2 weeks at the Ariadne and had a great time. It is a lovely friendly family run hotel who work really hard doing a bit of everything, which is why they can't be in the reception to greet you on arrival or wave you off as you leave as some previous reviewer complained. The pool area is immaculate and cleaned daily and the bar food better than some resturants we visited and is very reasonably priced. The rooms are nice and spacious and you get an excellent view over Tsilivi. Yes local resident/stray dogs do bark (but not much) and cockerels can be noisy in the morning (this is natural) but I don't see how some reviewers can blame the hotel for this, they have no control over them. Also to the reviewer who didn't know how to work the electric, it is very common abroad to have to put your key into a slot to get power, even in 5 star hotels. The hill can be a bit of a challenge but without it you wouldn't get the fantastic views, and to be honest it was the only excercise I got all holiday so was glad of a bit of an excuse to tone the legs. We Will definately return to this hotel and would recommend it to everyone we know who wants a lovely relaxing holiday.

We travelled to these apartments and wondered from the mixed reviews what we would find. We couldn't have been happier with these apartments. Pamela, Yiannis, Helen and Costas were friendly and genuinly nice people. Costas could look miserable but he always said good morning when he saw us. Costas took great care of the pool and the sun beds to present a beautiful site in the mornings. For our two weeks stay we paid 90 Euro's for the air con (a god send as it was so hot!) and 40 Euro's for a safety deposit box which we shared with my brother in law, again for the fortnight. So talk of paying 200 Euro's upwards is rubbish unless you stay longer than 2wks.
The food at the pool bar was very good in our opinion but we couldn't aford to eat there every day. My husband got up early every morning and walked to get fresh bread which was delicious! The views from our apartment 403 (on top floor in the middle) were exceptional... I felt sorry for those people with ground floor apartments who didn't have the advantage of that view! Certainly made the walk up the hill worth it. Tsilivi is a lovely town with wonderful friendly people. Our favourite restaurant was an Italian Il Gusto - that had really helpful staff and one friendly girl Alketa who took a shine to my 5 yr old nephew and went out of her way to make him smile! We also like Zeus "Happy Days" and Popeye's was good value food too.
We came back on Sunday and felt completely relaxed. It was nice to go somewhere where you're not expected to join in the Water polo or Water Aerobics!
Thanks to everyone at Ariadne for a fantastic break.

This hotel has fantastic views, the hill up to it is a bit of a hike in the heat. On the whole the people who own the property were pleasent, Pamela in particular. The other lady was a little frosty and when I reported that our room door was wide open upon our return one day after being out all day she didn't acknowledge me but just brushed past me to check the lock. The cleaners must have left it open.
Th hotel main areas are clean, the room cleanlines was not up to standard as the towels were only changed twice in a week, the beds once during our 2 wks, even when I put the towels on the floor they were just put back in the bathroom. Our room had a particulary unpleasent pungent smell from the drains which we told them about and they put bleach down it once!! The floor and bath were not cleaned and I had to do this myself with products I had taken. Now if you are looking for a peaceful relaxing nights sleep forget it, the owners have a bull dog type dog which prowled the apartment above us and whined, barked and moaned everynight, add this to the other neighbourhood dogs and you have a recipe for sleepless nights, when added to no aircon because it was so expensive and was not stipulated in the brochure that it was an added extra, what a cocktail. The only blessing was that the weather was fantastic, even if it was too hot and noisy to sleep!!

We read all the reviews of the hotel before going and were slightly apprehensive about what we were going to find, however on arrival we were delighted. The room was spacious and clean with adequate facilities (including a microwave) for preparing basic meals if required. All the rooms overlook the pool area, which is small but again spotlessly clean, with views across to Kefalonia and the Greek mainland. The pool area is well stocked with free sunbeds and never feels overcrowded even when everyone is round the pool. The hotel is a family run business and they couldn't have been nicer. I fell over and cut my knee whilst out on a trip and Helen insisted on giving me something to put on it which helped it heal up nicely. The food from the pool bar was freshly cooked and tasty and we found it a nice end to the evening to sit at the bar after having dinner in the town chatting to Pamela. The hill up to the hotel is quite steep but is in a zig zag so it does level off for a bit half way up. The resort of Tsilivi is fairly busy but basically aimed at families and we found that at either end of the resort it was much quieter and the bars and restaurants were better. A real find was the Old Vineyard another family run place. The food was extremely good and not at all expensive. We have never returned to a resort before but would certainly visit the Ariadne again.
