“TAKE A REAL LOOK ALL IS NOT AS IT SEEMS”
Reviewed August 12, 2012

We looked on Tripadvisor and thought this looks ok..... Wrong !! we travel regular to various parts of Europe and experience lots of accomadation, but have never been so dissapointed, we booked for two weeks with Thompson, we saw the reviews for the views.... but what we got was a basement room with no view but the bar which was only 6yards from our room, i asked Paula if we could have a higher room, as we requested, oh no came the reply, those are for customers that book a year in advance, but i paid the same money, sorry thats your room, well maybe we could change on change over..... no! we have allocated rooms..... so if you have not been here before you will get a basement room, there are 7 i believe, ours was so dark, i had to put the light on, there was also always Lizards in our room, the wife was terrified to sleep, another room had Mice, but was told "They are only field mice " well i am sorry Mice are mice in my book, i went to the Rep...... John who was so, so weak, he was told that that was her policy to put past guests in the rooms with a view, thats where i think the good reviews come from, i wish the basement people would tell there stories, i asked to be moved to another hotel , but was asked to pay another £469 from Thompson...... are they mad, i could have screamed, i then rang the overseas line , three times i had to ring them back, as they never returned my call as promised, so Thompsons promise to resolve your problem in 24 hrs went to 72 hrs and still no resolve, apart from paying anothe £469...i spoke to Rachel twice and she never rang me back, so i had to ring again and spoke to steve, told him to gat Rachel to ring me....Nothing, i rang back and spoke to Becky, again all they wanted was more money, so i told them to forget it and would not trust Thompson again, i was stuck here for two weeks !!!.....now i am very fit... i mean fit ! but that bank.. Honest it is an absolute Killer, it is in actual fact 465 steps up the most difficult climb, in our country, it would not be so bad, but in the heat, it is bloody awfull, it will spoil your holiday as the Shop is at the bottom of this bank, you cannot just nip out and get milk or whatever, it is such, such a chore, so when you come in at night, you are absolutley Drenched and Distressed, if you are the slightest bit un fit.... dont book it, if you do and you try the bank.... please remember when you get half way, i did try and warn you and if you are reading this , You will remember !!!!

Dont forget to set your Alarm for 7.00am... as you will have to beat the locals to the Sunbeds, i saw some one morning at 6.05 am, now thats sad, wouldnt care the pool is greasy, as you can see from the different levels of the smaller pool, there is "muck" caked on urggghhh

i felt sorry for a couple of families that were told they could keep there rooms as traveling late, "oh we never said you could keep rooms" " we have our regulars to look after" they had to pay extra money to get a more central room, they had to re-pack for a half a night and get near to Town... some had kids

i have to say the resort is great and there is some wonderfull, pleasant studios that are closer and not up that Flippin hill.........Nay Mountain, it was that bad most nights we got a Taxi up, but at 6 Euros, was not cheap, but God was it worth it ha ha ,

As i said , its a wonderfull resort, but make sure it is not spoilt by going to the Ariadne Hotel, its a lot of hard earned money to come back and say your holiday was spoilt by a " Bank and a basement" also you will have to pay 70 Euros to have Air Conditioning, most give it free with the price

So there it is, my views as a non regular, to be honest , i will never be a regular here, i think its unfair to get an inferior room if you have only been here once

If you have changed your mind, then i have saved you a bad experience, try visiting this place if you go and you will see for yourself, just what i mean, if you book it anyway..... please when your halfway up that bank, remember I TOLD YOU THE TRUTH Good look felow travellers

Stayed in the Ariadne almost 7 years ago and even then it was great, I just saw all the reviews and just wanted to say it was perfect. Quite & short walk to the main street. We had a great holiday in Tsilivi. Ideal for a solo trip, for couples, family & friends!

Stayed at the Ariadne Apartments for 2 weeks from 15th - 29th July, 2 couples and 2 teenage girls, we booked 2 studio apartments rooms 303 and 304. Rooms were very clean on arrival and kept clean throughout our holiday, towels and sheets changed regularly, the pool area was cleaned every night after it closed at 7oclock. Plenty of sunbeds for everyone, no need to get up at daft oclock to reserve one, snack bar served breakfast and lunch which were very reasonable. It was 5 minutes to the bars and restaurants where we had lots of lovely meals, calypso & wine and roses were our favourites amongst others. our daughters loved it in Molly Malones and Two Brothers. The beach is lovely and about 10 mins walk. Tsilivi is a very family friendly resort suitable for all ages, we had a fantastic time at the Ariadne and loved every minute of our holiday, we were all very sad to leave but will most definitely return :-)

Just returned last week from a two week stay at the Ariadne. Although we have been to Greece several times, this was our first holiday to Tsilivi and we were very pleasantly surprised. Our group of 2 couples each with a teenager daughter had a fantastic time. We each stayed in a studio which was immaculate, very comfortable and well equipped. We were on the second floor and the views from the balcony were stunning. The pool and surrounding areas were all cleaned daily, no need to get up early to reserve a sunbed as there was always plenty available any time of day. The staff in the hotel go out of their way to make your holiday more special. We got to know Pamela the most, she was great company to my husband as he propped up the bar for his afternoon pint! They serve breakfast and snacks in bar area which were reasonably priced. The main strip is just down the hill where there is an excellent range of fantastic bars and restaurants, our favourites being Wine and Roses and Calypso. Our favourite bars were Two Brothers, Breeze and Molly Malones. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Ariadne, and were very sad to say goodbye to Pamela on our last day. We will definitely return in the future!

Just returned from a two week stay at Ariadne where my partner, son and I had a wonderful holiday. We booked the only one bedroom apartment in the hotel, room 305 and can highly recommend this to fellow travellers. We were blessed with the biggest balcony I've ever seen and enjoyed fantastic views over mainland Greece and Kefallonia. Balcony was equipped with 2 marble top bistro tables and director style chairs, which made a pleasant change fro the usual white plastic furniture you burn the back of your legs on when you sit down ;-) Checkout the Ariadne photos on tripadvisor, our balcony was one of those huge triple size white things in the middle of the hotel!

All rooms overlook the pool and sea. Our apartment was spacious, comfortably furnished and well equipped. Both rooms had wardrobes with loads of hanging space, dressing table, coffee table and chairs and free tv. One of the rooms had a double bed, the other had two singles. Kitchen had microwave, toaster, electric kettle, two ring stove and a fridge freezer plus dining table. Didn't take much notice of the utensils provided as apart from the odd round of toast, we ate out all the time. Maid service was daily, we had ample supply of towels and linen was changed regularly. The cleaners were always pleasant and managed to say hello but generally spoke as much English as we speak Greek. We were never woken early or hurried in any way as mentioned in a previous review. My partner is recovering from serious illness which meant we occassionally stayed in the apartment, if the cleaners came we just sat on the balcony enjoying the views while the did their stuff.

We tried to be tight and didn't pay for the air con for the first week. Don't do it! The heat in July can be overwhelming and makes for an uncomfortable night...Lesson learned, the second week we paid for it and was well worth it.

Pool area is kept immaculately clean and the small but beautiful gardens were well manicured. There were always ample sunbeds available around the lovely pool despite it being peak season. Not often you see that in July!

That hill..... yes it's a bit steep but it's not Ben Nevis! It really isn't that bad (unless you're a wuss ;-) )

Friday night is rock night with 2short. Don't like rock? still go anyway and witness 2 1/2 year old rock chick Elena strut her stuff! A smashing little character she is and while some of the Brits struggle with their own language, this little treasure speaks both English and Greek. Apart from Friday night, there is no entertainment at this hotel, so if you're the type who likes an all singing, all dancing animation program, the Ariadne is probably not for you, but if like us, you want relaxing days in beautiful surroundings and find your own evening entertainment in the resort ( 5 mins walk ), then Ariadne is well worth a visit...

The family who run this hotel are the warmest, freindliest people I've ever met. They bend over backwards to make your holiday enjoyable and nothing is too much trouble. My son (who doesn't usually socialise much) even went out on an all night drinking session with the young cousin. He spent many a day propping up the reasonably priced hotel bar, chatting with the family and playing pool. They treat him like one of their own much to his delight..... he didn't want to come home. On home day, both Pamela and Helen said goodbye to their departing guests with kisses and cuddles and left some of us with a tear in our eye.....

This was our first visit to both Ariadne and Tsilivi but certainly wont be our last and we were genuinely sad to leave. Thankyou Pamela, Giannis, Helen, Kostas and not forgetting young Tasos for a wonderful holiday, hope to see you again next year.

Room Tip: Room 305 is the only one bedroom apartment in the hotel. It has the most enormous balcony you've...

I have just arrived home from a week's stay in this lovely hotel with my partner and our little boy of 3. We (like many I assume) regard trip advisor as our travel bible and will always read reviews before booking to go anywhere.

I simply cannot find fault with this hotel! It is a small, family-run hotel where nothing is too much trouble. Pamela, Helen & Costas work tirelessly to ensure their guests enjoy their stay. The rooms, pool area and hotel grounds are kept spotless. The location is great (we didn't find the notorious hill an issue, even when pushing a buggy up it) with lovely views of the Tsilivi and the sea beyond.

The hotel has only 24 rooms but I found this added to its charm. The hotel's size helps create a friendly atmosphere and we met some lovely people there both around the pool and in the bar.

I could go on and on but I think the highest compliment I could pay this hotel is to mention the sheer amount of return guests it gets year after year. And as I finish writing this I'm off to book a two week stay there next year!

Well done all @ the Ariadne, Keep up the good work &we look forward to seeing you again next year.

Les, Ally & Fin xx

Room Tip: Book early to get the higher level rooms with the best views.

2nd visit to Tsilivi love the place. 1st visit to Ariadne. Absolute beautiful, best accommodation I have been in. Immaculate clean, pool area lovely and the owner has obviously great pride, every night same routine tidying up , cleaning around pool area. Rooms are to a very good standard with all you need although we only stayed at apartments twice to eat in, ( for lunch) , so much choice in Tsilivi for eating out and very reasonable prices. staff seemed pleasant enough , I feel we didn't spend enough time to get to know them because we were with company who we met up with. Hill- I knew we had an uphill walk but I definitely didn't think it was so far up. First week it was bearable second it was murder in the higher temperatures! I like popping up from the beach at lunch but this was just too far uphill to do. I am reasonably fit also my husband but unfortunately I did find the hill uncomfortable . My in laws who often go abroad would never had managed this, it's certainly not for the elderly a courtesy bus would be great even twice a day. If you don't mind an uphill walk in the heat then go here you will not be disappointed with the Ariadne. We were in room 105 which was lower level with pool view but the view from apartments up higher levels of tsilivi is amazing.
