Al Mare Beach Hotel
Ranked #5 of 18 Tsilivi B&B and Inns
Reviewed August 7, 2012

We saw the Al Mare on holiday last year and booked it as soon as we got home. We are so glad we did! It is family owned and the family and their staff are amazing - so friendly, attentive and 100% approachable. It is right on the beach - we had the downstairs suite and it was literally 1 minute from our room to the beach. As it's a new hotel, the bathrooms are excellent as are all the furnishings and facilities. It was also the first holiday we've had where the hot water didn't run out! The food at the beach bar is delicious - they only serve food until 5 or 6pm but I would definitely consider eating there in the evening if food was served. We had a seafood spaghetti and it was out of this world - juicy, sweet tomatoes, perfectly flavoured and seasoned, a generous helping of mixed seafood... delicious. The sunbeds are free, which is a bonus. If you go and reserve a couple when you go down for breakfast (which is served at the very civilised time of 9-11am) there's no problem with getting some, although it gets very busy a bit later. Breakfast is very good too - a good mix of continental and hot food. As others have said, the pool isn't finished, but with the sea that close you don't need a pool!
It was our 5th holiday in Tsilivi and this is definitely the best place we've stayed. The location is great for the restaurants and shops - I recommend Menir restaurant just up the road and, a little further along from that, the Jolly Roger Bar. I guarantee you will have fun in there - it's very family-friendly. Kostas at the Jolly Roger also does amazing breakfasts, if you oversleep and miss it at the hotel! Another restaurant to make a point of visiting is Popeye's, which is on the main strip. It's a nice, appetite-building 10 min walk away, or a ride in a horse and carriage for 10 euros if you're feeling lazy! For boat trips, you can't beat the Levante speedboat trips with Captain Spiros. Apart from the fact that Spiros is great fun and extremely capable, the boat goes right inside the caves and can drop you at the shipwreck or on Turtle Island for a short wade to the beach, unlike larger boats which can't get close enough. I can't recommend these trips enough - you will find the girls taking the bookings by the harbour, or there's also an English guy who may approach you on the beach. Say yes! It's not as cheap as some but it's well worth the money.
Back to the Al Mare: comfortable beds, extremely clean, quiet, charming, great food, breathtaking view - what more could anyone want?
We're definitely planning to go back there next year!

Room Tip: A room with a sea-facing balcony is good, but to be honest you're not going to look out on anyth...

Perfect place to stay. New hotel right on a georgeous clean sandy beach. .
Large room, modern bathroom, balcony overlooking the sea.Rest of hotel also very clean and beautifully decorated. They have a bar with drinks and food which you can also order from your free sunbed on the beach. Short walk to restaurants and shops. Lovely breakfast. The owners and their family and staff are very warm and attentive. Definately the best place to stay in Tsilivi
if not in all Zakinthos.

We just returned from our vacation in Greece and without a doubt, the highlight of our trip was the six days we spent at AL MARE in ZAKYNTHOS. What a gem. THE HOTEL is only a year old: THE BEACH - I would say it is the best in Zakynthos if not all of Greece and Al Mare is located on the best part of the beach - THE WATER is crystal clear and as warm as I have ever experienced. But most importantly, THE PEOPLE that own and operate the hotel are incredible.
We felt so welcome and appreciated as guests that we didn't want to leave. The hotel is located in Tsivili which (from my experiences) I think is the best part of the island.

We found the hotel by accident. We stopped at Al Mare to ask for directions to a different hotel that we have previously booked, and were unable to find. We were told it was right on the beach, so naturally we were driving the waterfront to find it. Afrodite at the front desk went out of her way trying to help me find the hotel we were booked in to. I couldn't believe how helpful she was to someone that wasn't staying at her hotel - She was fantastic. While she was trying to locate my hotel, I wandered the lobby and looked at the beach directly infront. I regretted booking the other hotel because Al Mare looked so amazing - but we already had reservations. Al Mare is new, spotless and the beach was litterly 20 feet away. Afroditie found our hotel on the map, and directed us to it. When we found it - it was no where near the beach. It was a nice hotel, but we had obviously been lied to. We were clearly told it was directly on beach. I didn't feel bad cancelling because we were misled. We quickly called back Afrodtie and reserved our room at Al Mare! And I am so glad we did. We were lucky there were some rooms available because Al Mare is new so it wasn't fully booked - I guarantee you it will be next year.

Our room was on the second floor with a balcony overlooking the beachfront - the room was modern, spacious and the beds were so comfortable. Even a flat screen T.V., a small fridge and a very quite air conditioner - all with an incredible view.

We initially took the room for three nights - we were going to go to Kefalonia for the next three nights. But after the first couple of days, we didn't want to leave. How could we find anything like this somewhere else. Everything was just about perfect. So we cancelled Kefalonia, and stayed another three nights at Al Mare. We even called my wife's parents who were in Athens and told them to come to Al Mare. They did, and thoroughly enjoyed the five nights they spent at Al Mare.

The ground has been broken and the foundations poured for the two large pools that are not yet finished, but I expect they will be in the near future. I don't think it even matters - the beach is so close, and amazing that it wouldn't make a different to me even if there never was a pool. There is parking which is sometimes hard to find at hotels.

A nice breakfast was included with our room - and the main level bar is open all day, with the restaurant providing a nice selection of lunch items all day - and always served in a spotlessly clean enviroment. We visited the kitchen prep area - spotlesss, spotless and spotless!

Al Mare is an incredible place - but so is Zakynthos. We drove the entire island - visited all of the tourist sites and enjoyed many of the fine restaurants. Al Mare is well located for night walks in the busy areas that tourists frequent at night - Simply said - it has it all.

I could go on and on - but there is no need. If you decide to stay at Al Mare - you will not be disapointed in any way. It really is as good s all these reviews suggest - not just mine.

Thanks to everyone at Al Mare - There are many fine hotels and AL MARE is on the top of the list - but it is the people truly make the difference. You did - You are appreciated.

We have just returned home from a lovely 2 weeks holiday at Al Mare Hotel. This new hotel is modern, bright, clean and on the beach. The staff were very friendly but also very attentive and knew their job. All public areas as well as the bedrooms were spotless. Our bedroom was on the top floor and the long balcony was on 2 sides and gave us wonderful views. Food was well cooked, varied and well presented. The swimming pool is not finished but who needs a pool when the Ionian Sea is right on the doorstep! Sun loungers and umbrellas, either on the beach or on the grass, are free for the hotel guests. Restaurants and shops are only minutes away. We highly recommend Al Mare and will have no hesitation in returning to this hotel.

Room Tip: There is a lift so a room on the 2nd floor with balcony is really worth considering.

Just returned from a fantastic stay at th Al Mare. I cant praise the hospitallity we received enough. Maggie the hotel owner, family and staff made our stay at the Al Mare special.

Our friends married in Zante who also stayed at the Al Mare. They had their wedding reception in the hotel. Everyone had a fantastic time. The home cook food for the reception was amazing, from the salad, pasta, beef stiffado to all the home made deserts, they also catered for the children in wedding reception.

Now to the hotel. Situated right on the beach with amazing views. Hotel was spotless, rooms spacious and very well decorated. All the amenities you need right on your doorstep, with more restuarants and bars within a 5 minute walk.

We'll be going back to this hotel

I would just like to say thank you all for making our friends day very special.

A fantastic hotel, great location And superb staff. The guys running the hotel felt more like family and friends than staff. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left they were attentive, warm and friendly.

The rooms, food and general service were impecible. Every guest commented how helpful staff were and how nice hotel was. The wedding reception was handled superbly and we all had a moving and memorable day thanks to the staff of the Al mare. This hotel is new and will go from strength to strength.
