“Great eating with magnificent views.”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

Stay in San Stefanos in sept 2013 and ate regularly at the Romanza, it was great, the food was fantastic, served by a super set of staff and the views looking out to sea are superb and the overall value was very very good, would highly recommend a visit.

Room Tip: didn't stay, only ate here, would highly recommend the restaurant.

We've just come back from our second visit to San Stefanos which is a lovely resort with a huge beach and a great selection of bars and restaurants. It's a quiet resort and good value for money on average we spent between 32 to 35 euros for an evening meal (half a litre of wine, litre of bottled water, an array of starters and two main courses).

Unfortunately the hotel we stayed in last year was fully booked so we booked the Romanza after reading all the positive reviews. The hotel itself is very nice the room was modern, clean, with great views out to sea and an amazing shower for Greece (proper shower enclosure and massive shower head). The two women who work on reception were lovely always taking the time to talk and very helpful. The pool area was fine it is a mixture of hard plastic sunbeds as-well as the soft fabric ones (be warned as the towels come out early and as a new comer you are likely to be left with the plastic ones) the pool itself looked clean though the paint used on the bottom comes off my partner went for a swim and came out blue from the bottom/slides of the pool.

Our only compliant which was shared by some of the other people from the Romanza we met in town is that it is very 'clicky' a lot of the people who stay there have been coming back year after year and it makes it an awkward environment for new comers; no-one spoke to us in the bar, we'd wait ages to be served by the bar staff who were a little offish with us and we just didn't feel very welcome/comfortable.

I know people will disagree with this but this is just our personal feelings. We will definitely be back to San Stef we love the area but not the Romanza.

I'll give it a 2 star on the basis that it was a nice hotel, great view.....proper shower.....the front of house staff were nice and reasonably helpful. but it was the other British who stay at the hotel, they pretty much ruled the roost, treated it as their own hotel with their own bar staff in the evenings, I'm referring to the CLICKIE BRITISH PEOPLE.

These people are yearly visitors/guests who are treated like royalty, we tried our best to talk to people and socialise with the bar staff but nothing materialised of it so we thought why bother and we went else where and enjoyed the rest of our holiday. Do visit San Stef it's a lovely area with some lovely hotels where you are made to feel welcome.

This restaurant has fantastic views, great waiters, delicious food and wine. A place to visit! The Chef even comes and has a chat to see if you have enjoyed your meal. The sunsets are amazing! Excellent service, the staff are all very helpful and very happy.

We only had 7 days here and wished it had been longer.Yes it is at the top of a very steep hill but we as a couple had a combined age of 145 and managed both the road and cliff path to the beach without too much difficulty, you just take your time.By the end of the week we were doing the beach climb in 6 mins! All has been said about the hotel, the staff are all excellent and could not be more helpful, the rooms are more than adequate if you are used to Greek plumbing etc and cleaning standards VG.Breakfast is limited but varied and evening meals offer plenty of choice.
Eating out,and trying other places is part of the holiday,is excellent and the cost of meals and drinks is tremendous value compared to the UK & Spain.3 courses plus carafe of excellent house wine rarely came to more than 40E and you invariably had a drink + fruit etc with the bill.
Would recommend O Manthos at the far end of the beach for the fish, you get to choose it yourself from the kitchen also Zorbas,we were even given a lift back up the hill from here!Talking to other guests the choice and quality of meals in the village was very good.
Took the local bus to Sidari, all full english and happy hours! Also the Thomsons trip to Paleokastritsa, very good but can be done cheaper via San Stefanos travel, fellow guests who had been coming for years knew more than the Rep.Tip! do not book till you have asked the regulars!Brewery walk was interesting and a chance to sample the product. The trf to and from the airport is a bit of a pain but the arrival at Romanza is a bonus and the departure sad.
A BIG BIG WARNING MIND THE MOZZIES!I am afraid Agnes became known as the "bite lady"Take all precautions and then more. The holiday was enhanced by meeting and enjoying the company of other guests from 1st timers like us to regulars like George. As General Mcarthur said "we will be back".

Room Tip: I think all have a sea view

This is a good place to stay; I like this type of accommodation. If it were a larger room Valerie would have been happier but, all in all, it was just fine for us. It is a bit of an uphill treck from the centre of the village to the hotel but the sunsets in the west easily compensate for that, and anyway I would always hire a Yamaha DT 125 motorcycle to do all the donkey-work (afterall, one is on one's holiday, so why over exert the sinews?)

This is a family run hotel and the family and staff work very hard to make sure that you have a great stay. The hotel has a great view over the village, but you pay for the views as it is half way up a very steep hill. The hotel is clean and well maintained, breakfast is basic but you always have the option to pay for a bigger choice. The bar staff and restaurant staff are friendly and helpful. The pool is big and graduated in depth so good for swimmers who are not confident. The village has a good range of competitively priced restaurants we like Zorbas none of the restaurants had staff attacking you as you went past. The hotel restaurant was a little more expensive but the food in the evening was good. We also got a very competitive car hire deal from Demitra & Manos in the village. We walked to several of the surrounding villages and drove when we had a car all around the island. Try the cake shop in Dafni opposite the BP garage. This is a great resourt and good hotel, lots of people go to this resort and this hotel on a repeat basis and I can see the atrtraction in this, but for us there are too many other good places to explore.

Room Tip: Room 1 has a great view of the sunsets, though the shower is a corner one and quite small. It is als...
