“A nice place to sample Southern Tyrol cuisine”
Reviewed April 13, 2013

We fiund this place by chance in a off-season day when most restaurants and hotels in the region were closed. At first, we were skeptical since the signs heavily advertised "local good". But we found it excellent. The food was fresh, well cooked and with an inspired touch. The service was very friendly and careful in all aspects. The price was more than reasonable. Recommended.

“A regular Austrio-Italian haunt”
Reviewed December 28, 2012

As a regular visitor to Dobbiaco/Toblach I always pop in to this restaurant, usually for dinner but sometimes for lunch.

The food is very good (not excellent) and the prices reasonable. It is popular with the locals and over the last few years they've started to keep a couple of menus in English as its popularity grows with tourists. The traditional wooden interior make charming change from some of the modern sharp lines of other restaurants in the area. On an evening the staff don traditional dress which always goes down well first timers.

The only downside I've experienced is the service which varies from excellent to poor; on a couple of occassions the proprietor has seemed to be in a very bad mood which has rubbed off on his staff.

We only went for a drink but its a very cool place compared to others in the area, this one isn't full of odd dolls and animal heads.

“German dining - with an Italian flair”
Reviewed October 15, 2011

We purposefully asked for a recommendation for Austrian/German food and were directed to Winklekeller. Since Dobbiaco (Toblach) is in Italy we probably shouldn't have been surprised by the Italian influence on the menu. Still, we enjoyed the meal, including the lasagna!

A special word about the vino sfuzo on offer - GREAT! We had a liter of the Lagrien for a mere 9 euro and it was excellent. They also offer prosecco at about the same price and it was as good as or better than the famous label prosecci. Don't hesitate to order from the house wines.

“Customer 'uncare' & unsatisfaction”
Reviewed July 29, 2011

Frankly speaking, the place is nice and the atmosphere is absolutely coherent with the location, but they do not have any idea about how to make the customer feel comfortable. Even if from the booking we had exactly clarified that we'd be there not before 9,30 p.m. due to the Half Marathon Run, and they've accepted our request, even if part of our families went there well in advance because of the children and we did arrive maybe 5 minutes after the 'official' reservation, we had the worst welcome I've ever experienced in all my life, and believe me I've been in so many restaurants around the world you could never imagine...
While still standing arranging for the seat, we've been addressed by the boss in these precise words "you must choose everything immediately, i don't want to pay one additional hour of extra time to the chef for your delay'... we started looking at each other, and the idea was to go away, but due to children and thier needs we adopted for the 'smooth strategy'.
After three minutes from the orders first plates come (could you imagine which chef you need to prepare roast of pork in three minutes...) annd while eating waitresses and the boss where standing in front of us, waiting for us to finish, continously asking for the desserts orders... believe me or not I was still eating meat and fries and my cup of ice cream was already in front of me waiting and melting ..
For the entire dinner it took approssimately the same time compared to a canteen inside a factory.
Even if they are quoted as one of the best place in that area, that evening they didn't surprise me for any specific plate or taste, while I was astonished once received the check not absolutely in line with the 'fast and furious' food experience we had.. extremely high and unjustified..
