Let me start by saying that just about everything that has been written about this place, good and bad, is true.

Rooms basic - well yes, but so what? Who wants TV on holiday? Especially with a world-class view from the balcony. Who wants full cooking facilities in a village with an exceptionally high standard of good-value restaurants - including the hotel? The fridge, though, is quite large and very efficient which means you can have an ice cold beer on your balcony, a true delight in such heat and with such views. Who actually cares if the finish is a bit bodged when the prices are so low? It adds a bit of character! Cleanliness, though, really should be better. In our first week, we got several changes of sheets and towels, but nothing in the second week. Floors weren't swept, bathroom floor wasn't mopped, and it's very clear nobody has ever cleaned under the beds. Really not good. 2nd bedroom really needs A/C - it is cool enough to sleep even in a heatwave with the windows open, except that the cicadas make that absolutely impossible.

The funicular lift is amazing, amusing and deeply frustrating when it (regularly) breaks down, probably not helped by the tinkering with flashing LEDs while we were there that I suspect was responsible for the power cut that night. However, it seems safe enough and has four sides to it. The alternative steps are VERY steep. Equally frustrating is the Lift Monitor who is determined to ensure no more than 5 people ever use it at once - just put a capacity label on it! However, that aside the staff really are very friendly and helpful indeed, although you might get a little hassle to eat there and go to the Turkish evening, but nothing nasty.

The pool seems pleasant enough, but I'm bemused at people who choose to rush down to get their towels on a lounger to sit around it all day in such a lovely place as Turunc, with fantastic sea bathing in the village and nearby coves only a short boat or dolmus ride away. Never saw the pool bar open, which seemed a bit odd, but the main bar is just as near.

It's a steep hill down to the village - easy enough going down, but a killer in midday heat coming back, and not nice in any weather. You can get a taxi, but we slogged it out every time - suckers...

And the views - well, they really are world-class. It's a beautiful little bay, and Turunc is very attractive - the views are what made us book the Serena, and they are the best feature of the place.

So, would we go back? With better cleaning, without a doubt. The friendliness, views and features are all actually fine to brilliant; with cleaning standards as they are, though, I'm not entirely sure. We would certainly go to Turunc any time, it is a wonderful spot.

We travelled on 3rd August 2013 for a fortnights stay as a family. Last year we stayed in Marmaris and went to Turunc on a boat trip. The hassle and bustle of Marmaris is great if you are under 20 but for a family holiday it is a bit in your face.
Turunc is a perfect destination as there is it is not too big but there are plenty of nice restaurants and shops. None of the pushiness of the bigger towns.
The transfer is long, about 3 hours but it was worth it.
The rooms are very basic, no TV and very limited room facilities. The standard of cleaning was poor but after a bit of bleach down the loo who cares. I had no intention of doing any cooking so our room was basically only there to sleep in and dump our stuff!
Lots of people travel here year after year because it is so friendly. There is a good mix of English, Dutch and Turks and everyone got on well. There were plenty of kids which was great for my 10 year old. Last year we went on a First Choice holiday, as I had for the previous 9 years and due to their extortionate prices and rubbish hotels there were no other kids in our hotel in the middle of August!! The kids all got on well, after a bit of prompting and had a great time in the pool and chilling out by reception on their various techno gadgets!
This was probably the most friendly hotel and resort that I have ever been to.
There is a cat rescue centre called Turunc Cats Welfare run by an English lady called Lea. We took some food over for the cats from the UK ( you can get an extra luggage allowance) and we were collected and taken over to see them which my son loved. Look for them on Facebook. They also have a charity shop in the village where you can off load things you don't want to take home or buy cheap bits and pieces that you do!
I would totally recommend this as a perfect holiday destination for everyone apart from those with mobility problems as it is very steep. The steepness is worth it for the amazing views.
I would love to go back as we made loads of holiday friends and probably had one of our best ever holidays. The staff were all amazing especially Merteen who never stopped working and was always busy doing something. He is genuinely one of the the nicest people we have ever met.
My only recommendations to the apartment owners would be get some decent cleaners or even provide the rooms with a broom and bleach. Also because it is a small hotel I think they should stop everyone from bagging sunbeds with towels. We were as guilty as the rest but if nobody had towels on sunbeds unless they were by the pool there would always be plenty for everyone all the time.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 708 which is the highest and has the best views over the whole town and very quiet...

we arrived at 3.30am to find our travel company had booked the wrong dates, but the owners found us a double room with no hesitation and had sorted everything out for us by the morning, so all we had to do was relax by the pool and take in the most amazing panoramic views. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly and our 14 year old daughter got no hassle at any point in the hotel or in the resort. they have a no hassle policy in all the shops, bars and restaurants in Turunc which is a welcome change to other Turkish resorts we have visited in the past. Accomodation is basic, but it is still very cheap to eat out so not much self catering was called for. Air con is only in main bedroom so second bedroom stayed fairly warm. Generally we had a great holiday, lots to do if you want to, but just sitting with a drink taking in the views was enough for us.

Went to Serena with a need to really relax and enjoy the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean. Serena suites, the town of Turunc and the surroundings did just that. Our one bedroom suite was spacious, furnished with basic and comfortable furniture, had a great view that we enjoyed having our wine in the evening on our private balcony. The surrounding beaches and sites were easy to get to by water shuttles and affordable. The staff was very welcoming both at reception and at the restaurant. The restaurant could be visited just to enjoy the great view even if you're not staying at the suites. You can find both international and traditional Turkish cuisine at the restaurant and enjoy a nice relaxing evening. The hotel also has a pool which we didn't use since we enjoy the sea experience more, however the pool seemed to be enjoyed by many of the guests, and looked like a good place to have your drink at sunset which I'm planing to do next year when I re-visit.

We new not to expect too much from this place but the other reviews made us more hopeful.

Unfortunately, as soon as we went into our room, we were disappointed. We had to barge our way in using our shoulder as the door didn't fit properly. We didn't look around straight away as it was 5am and we were knackered.

When we got up, we were even more disappointed. There was the worst plug in hot plate in the world and a kettle. That's it. (Not self catering by any standard) the sink was made out of thin metal, was badly dented and was hanging off the rim. There was a small (rubbish) selection of pots and pans.

The bathroom was awful too. The shower was very dirty around all the seals and along with the rest of the place, there were scars of terrible DIY work everywhere. I don't do DIY cos I know I'm rubbish at it. An attitude I feel should be adopted by the staff here.

Moving onto the staff. This is where the Serena redeems itself. All staff were lovely and friendly and would always want to help. The pool was nice and so was the food.

We we lucky that our AC worked but lots of other guests weren't so lucky and were pursuing room moves for days. There were lots of unhappy guests.

We would return to Turunc but not to Serena Suites.

We found Serena suites through trip advisor and found there was a real mixed bag of reviews. After umming and ahhhing we gave it a go, and I`m so glad we did. The apartments have to be the best we saw anywhere in Turunc, as we walked around we looked at other apartments / villas etc and agreed that we had chose the best. Set towards the top of the hill at the back of the village it affords the most magnificent views of the whole bay. The walk can be a bit difficult in the heat of a July day with shopping in arms but still so worth it. We booked our holiday through Sunshine.co.uk and got it at a fantastic price, after speaking to quite a few of the other guests staying at the apartments we realised we had gotton a really good deal. We travelled as Three families, 2 in one apartment and 1 in the other. The apartments are really spacious and all have sea views. Our first apartment we were given on arrival was right at the top and the rest of our party were down on the pool level, so after politely speaking to the manager and saying we would like to be all together, they went out of there way to help us and gave us the rooms right next door as soon as they became available which was 2 days. Fantastic level of Hospitality and service from all of the staff at the Serena and we would really like to thank Sardar and the other staff for doing all they could to make our stay so perfect. Serena`s restaurant is very reasonably priced, the food is cooked and presented beautifully and there is plenty to choose from, even for the fussiest eaters. I would definitely recommend the Turkish Night here, We had a fantastic Turkish Feast laid on some fun entertainment belly dancing etc followed by a pool party, which I have to say made it for me! Jumping in the pool at midnight to cool down, fully dressed was a memorable moment :) Sardar also organised all our trips we wanted to go on although we did have a local holiday rep, we found after speaking to him that he can usually match the price of any of the reps and often beat it, after his super treatment to us we felt we should really book through him so he could benefit a little. Another point I would like to thank Sardar on was the day he saw us lagging coming back up the hill with our shopping, (we ate all our breakfast and lunches in our apartment) he stopped his car and got us in and drove us back up :) Thankyou! I would recommend Serena suites to anyone who likes to be in a beautiful quiet area. Oh god I almost forgot to say how friendly everyone was! We felt like we were leaving behind friends by the time we left and were quite sad, the staff even gave us a special send off, Tea and coffee, music and a big farewell. One member of staff, Metin carried all our suitcases down to the reception area where we were waiting for our transfer, waited with us and then stood to wave us off! I have never known anything like it, so friendly!
