This is our second visit to this splendid hotel with our friends. Warm welcome, excellent accommodation and delicious and varied menu, well served and cooked. Breakfast is individually cooked ( not buffet style) so it is piping hot and comes beautifully served. Set in beautiful surroundings in the N Yorks countryside, this old manor house, which has been sympathetically extended an an hotel, spa etc , also has an excellent golf course......so, our husbands golf and the girls have a leisurely time with massage, facials and time for relaxation. Lots of lovely, quiet rooms in which to laze before warm fires in winter time - plenty of reading material, board games etc. There are lovely walks, too, both in the grounds and the village.

We had an upgrade room in the old part, on our last visit; this time we were shown to the newer extension, where the room was split level - with the bed on a mezzanine level ( with TV) and the lower level containing comfortable setter, chairs, tables and another TV. Two contrasting rooms, both excellent, with splendid bathrooms and toiletries. As we are Breakaway CLub members ( well worth it, by the way) we had lots of lovely extras, too.

As in most Q hotels, the service was first rate, staff are very pleasant and helpful and, more especially, their demeanour and their skills would seem to indicate that Q Hotels have excellent staff training programmes.

Will we return?......DEFINITELY!

Room Tip: If you prefer a traditional style room, ask for the old part of the hotel when you book. The newer...

Hello Tuppenny42

Thank you so much for taking the time to post a review and the the fantastic feedback you have given us it was very much appreciated by the staff.

I was delighted to read that this is your second visit to the hotel and you once again enjoyed a warm welcome, excellent accommodation and good quality food well served all of which add up to an enjoyable experience. As you said Q hotels have first rate staff a who re very pleasant and helpful .Q takes training very seriously and we are always looking to improve our customer service delivered by a friendly and professional team.

Aldwark is a beautiful hotel where the old meets new and it was designed very well. The spa and golf as well as extensive grounds offer a great environment to relax and unwind. The lounges offer a home from home feeling.

In respect of the bedrooms we have different types from the old manor house with character features such as yours,to the more contemporary rooms . it is a matter of taste but they are all comfortable and offer good facilities .

It was great to read that you are already enjoying the benefits of the Q Breakaway Club which represents excellent value for money and long may you continue to enjoy the offers

Fantastic to note that you will definitely return and we very much look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

Kind Regards

We had a great 2 night stay. We booked a standard double and were allocated a lovely room in the old part of the hotel. The room was v spacious, spotlessly clean and comfortable. All the staff were friendly, professional and attentive - Housekeeping even found me some peppermint tea bags for the room. The food was excellent and the service in the restaurant on both evenings made the experience feel more like we were dining in a Michelin star restaurant. Spa treatments lovely - staff friendly and knowledgeable. Chris at the Spa bar was very friendly and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff; we even got to look at one of the suites which we have booked for our next visit. Thanks to everyone who made it a great experience, especially Emily.

Room Tip: I think rooms in the older part of the hotel have more character. Lovely building with lots of nook...

It was very encouraging to read the excellent comments about your food experience as the Head Chef has a new menu and chef team and in addition we have a new restaurant manager , so we thank you for the feedback.
I was very pleased you enjoyed the Spa as it is a lovely environment looked after by a lovely team of staff.
It was fantastic to note that your are coming back to the hotel and have booked a suite. We very much look forward to seeing you again in the near future and once again many thanks for your comments.

Recently booked a last minute stay at this hotel via laterooms- bargain for £85
Including breakfast-

The hotel is stunning- we arrived at night and without sat nav would never have found the place!

The downstairs areas of the manor are lovely, nice few rooms to sit and have a drink or read a book in.

Didn't eat in restaurant so can't comment but smelt delicious.

Although the room was clean- we had a standard room- when you started looking closer there could be a more deep clean- under the taps had limescale and the enamel on the bath had come off in places- the edges of the floor need attention.

The room was also freezing- 1 heater- even having this on all night did not make a difference- also I prefer a bit of a thicker duvet- it is still winter!

My only other gripe was the room we had- outside here was some sort of air con u it and all night I could hear the fan! I did find the beds comfy.

Breakfast was great and service adequate. Good selection of cereal, fruit toast and pastries- then cooked breakfast to order- I
Must say they do a good scrambled egg that hadn't been near a microwave- bacon
Was thick and not fatty- the coffee was also good.

We did not use the spa so cannot comment- would definitely come back to stay and sample the restaurant and

Hello 'foodylover'

Thank you so much for your glowing comments about your recent stay at Aldwark and they are very much appreciated.

We were delighted that you were able to take advantage of one of our winter offers that offer very good value for this beautiful 4 star hotel where the charm of the old manor house meets the modern contemporary rooms and Spa.

Thank you for your constructive comments about the rooms , please be assured I have passed these points onto the head housekeeper and maintenance engineer for action. There was a particularly harsh cold snap whilst you were staying with us , and next year we will be more prepared with extra heating as required by our guests.

I was pleased that you enjoyed a good quality breakfast before you left and that this has left a good impression about the standard of food we deliver.

I was pleased to note that you would return and we very much look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

This is our fourth visit and again we both had a relaxing break. We have stayed in both the old and new part of the manor and found the rooms very comfortable. The gentleman in the golf shop was very helpful and pleasant. In fact we found the staff very pleasant, have to say a special thank you to Kate in the Squadron Bar who had a very bubbly personality and was very helpful. In past visits we have always eaten at the Aldwark Arms in the Village but decided to try the restaurant in the hotel – what can I say – the food was excellent. The Spa was lovely and relaxing and the girls were very helpful. All in all another lovely stay and we will be back next year.

We were delighted that you choose to stay with us at Aldwark for the fourth time for your break away and that you had a comfortable stay .

Thank you for your comments about our friendly team , they were pleased that they helped to make your stay an enjoyable one.

We were extra pleased that we managed to entice you away from the pub down the road and eat in the hotel brasserie. We have a new chef and menu and we are glad that you found the food excellent.

It was also fantastic to note that you found the Spa lovely and relaxing as the management and team are new and your comments will spur the team on.

It was my third visit to Aldwark manor. Really lovely location and grounds and buildings are impressive. This time I was going to celebrate a family birthday. I had booked a couple of treatments for each of us in the spa. When we got there which was about 1130 am the spa was extremely busy. There were a few big groups of hen parties booked in so it took a while to get sorted and then when we went to use the facilities, it was just over crowded. The changing room and the swimming pool I felt weren't adequate enough to accommodate the amount of people seeking to use it at the same time. The treatments were a bit half baked, not much time spent and having booked 2 treatments, one after the other, I think they were both over in about 30 mins. Having been to a number of hotels for spa weekends including this one before, I was disappointed with the spa this time round. It took the shine off the whole "spa experience". Food at the spa and in the evening and at breakfast was excellent. The staff at the restaurant were really attentive and service was good. The dinner menu was particularly good. The only other thing was the room wasn't ready when we went to book in and we ended up having to wait about 30 minutes for it. Hats off to the kind member of staff who came to find us to tell us our room was ready and to carry our bags up to it. Room wasn't very special. Much like a travel lodge. I have stayed in the new and older part of the hotel and would recommend asking for a room with a view preferably in the old section.

Dear Kate

I was delighted to read that it was your third visit to Aldwark and thank you for choosing to celebrate your special occasion with us. The Chef and food and beverage team were pleased you enjoyed your meals as many of them are new to the business and we have a new menu too.
Please accept my apologies that the Spa journey you experienced was not as it should be.It was particularly busy and this put strain on the facilities . The appointment diary could have been better managed. Iam pleased to inform you that we have an excellent new Spa Manager who is reviewing all forward bookings to ensure everything runs more smoothly in the future. She is also looking at the whole Spa journey and treatments offered and Iam confident that improvements will soon come.

In respect of the room , we appolgise for the wait but as you will appreciate at weekends when the hotel is at full capacity occasionally late checkouts cause a delay. I was pleased to read however that the staff looked after you and carried your bags to the room when it was ready.
We do have various rooms at Aldwark from the modern in which you stayed this time and alternatively the older manor house type. It is of course a matter of taste but all the rooms are comfortable offering the same facilities. As you say the manor house rooms are lovely with character.

As a valued loyal guest please contact me personally should you wish to return to Aldwark in the near future to experience the new spa journey.

Kind Regards

This hotel was excellent value for money and the service we received was first class. We had a few minor issues with the room we were allocated which could not be rectified so were given an upgrade for the next two nights. We couldn't have asked for more or indeed a better room. Special thanks to Krzysztof who was committed to making our stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

The pool, sauna, steam room and spa are also well worth a visit and they are free of charge for residents. If you take advantage of the room rate special offer as we did this hotel provides excellent vfm.
