Description: The Aldwark Arms is a beautiful village dining pub offering locally sourced, freshly cooked produce. Our menus change seasonally throughout the year. A la Carte, Early Bird, Special Event Nights and extensive lunch menus are available. We have an excellent selection of fine wines, stunning gins and many changing real ales. Members of Camra and Cask Marque accredited. We also received a tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence every year since we have been trading and have 5 stars out of 5 for our food hygiene rating.

The pub itself is very nicely decked out, and it is comfortable and warm.
The food is another matter. Not sure what the owners are trying to do but they are offering a posh gastro experience, so prices are quite high really, which is fine if the quality of the food matched that. It doesn't.

Their (presumably) signature thrice-cooked chips was disappointing. If you're going to cook chips 3 times, cut them nice and thick. If you don't you'll end up with nasty hard dry things. And use the right potato. The ones used were too floury and couldn't withstand all that frying! And I have a thing about food served on wooden chopping boards. The wood absorbs flavours from other foods and so not appropriate as serving plates.
Meat used was really fatty and grisly.
The ciabatta for the pork burger was also really oily.
The French onion soup was ok, flavours fine but in over-cooking or over-grilling the cheese made the cheese rubbery and not melting and lush like it should be.
Service was good, was the food that let it down.

Arrived in the area earlier than expected -fancied a pint and something to eat - was told when I got to the bar that they had no food available as they had a party coming in and did not open at lunchtimes

Had a pint and a bag of crisps and left

Bar area was nice and welcoming, fire roaring in the hearth

Sorry guys I am not likely to be in this area again so my review is meant for those travellers that turn up and see the lights on and expect a bit more than what I was able to avail myself off

Well i have eaten regularly at this Family owned and run Restaurant regularly since its opening, and have always had the warmest of welcomes from the staff. The food is of an excellent standard with a modern flair, combine this with locally sourced ingredients and cooked and the results are great!.
More often than not the Chef will come out personally to check how your meal is which is a nice touch.
Its so good to see a young team with such enthusiasm pushing up the standards in this world of what is mostly "per prepared chain food"
Well done to Chris,Nick and the Team!.
