“Relaxing and fun Sister's getaway!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 22, 2012

A perfect Irish setting for our Sisters' vacation. The Cottages provided EVERYTHING that we needed to truly enjoy some downtown in a busy, busy UK/Ireland sightseeing itinerary. Travel to the Cottages was uncomplicated with train and car rental proximity in Drogheda and the bus to Dublin literally steps from the gate. Roger, Liz and Melissa went to great lengths to ensure we knew all that we needed to take advantage of everything that Mirth County and Dublin had to offer. All six of us women, were very comfortable and not crowded at all. Our immaculate and very tastefully, and warmly decorated Thatchers Rest felt luxurious and the nearness of local pubs, grocers and restaurants had us completely content . Many many thanks!

Room Tip: We rented a car but you really didnt need one unless you wish to venture out in the countryside to e...

This is my third time visiting the cottages and they just get better each time. They are the most relaxing break you will get. The standard of accommodation is excellent, beds are very comfortable, showers are strong and there are nice big baths in the bathroom. The views are great and managed to get out for walk on the beach a few times each day. For some reason the weather always seems to be slightly better there than in Dublin. Great place for a bar b q, weather permitting. We went up to Relish restaurant one night which is a short walk away, the food was great and the views of the sea from the restaurant were lovely.

Right off the bat I'll say that this is, hands down, the best self catering accommodation I have ever stayed in. As someone who prefers the freedom of having your own facilities and being able to come and go as you please without worrying about mealtimes etc, this is really as good as it gets.

On arrival we were met by Mel, who manages the properties with the owner Roger. Mel was lovely, showed us around our cottage (the Garden Cottage) and gave us some useful tips on the locality.

The cottage itself has a thatched roof and is chocolate-box pretty! The cottage has two bedrooms, one on the ground floor and the other takes up the whole upstairs. Both bedrooms are en-suite and there is a guest toilet just inside the front door. My only criticism is that the curtains need to be heavier, or maybe have some blackout blinds as the rooms were bright from as early as 5:30am!

The living room is equipped with a HD tv, DVD player and Freesat TV. There are HDMI and Scart ports available if you wanted to hook up your own media drive too (we did).

The kitchen has everything you'd need. Four ring cooker, oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and they kindly provided scones, butter, jam, tea, coffee and milk so that we could have a refreshing cuppa before unpacking! There's loads of pots/pans etc so you can pretty much cook like you would at home (if you want). Iron and Ironing board were in one of the cupboards.

The bedrooms are well laid out, bright, airy and above all, spotless. The master bedroom upstairs and a superking sized bed and was extremely comfortable. The en-suite has a bath and separate shower and underfloor heating too. The showers were amazing, good pressure and plenty of hot water.

In the garden there is a large BBQ so you could have one if you want. There was a treehouse and a wendyhouse, both of which were also thatched! The wendyhouse was perfect for our daughter and it was a real Alladin's cave of toys, books and everything you'd need for the beach. There were also swings and the garden itself was blooming with beds of wildflowers, magnolia and cherryblossoms.

Location-wise, the cottages are right on the road between Bettystown and Laytown - next door to the local national school. The cottages back onto the beach, which is accessed through a secure gate. You can walk along the length of the beach to Bettystown or (if the tide is out) to the Boyne estuary. The beach is perfect for keeping a nearly-two-year-old occupied with sandcastle building and scavenging on the beach for shells, starfish and even mussels and periwinkles (although we opted not to cook them!).

Our daughter loved the cottage and we were happy to let her enjoy the garden safe in the knowledge she could enjoy the wendy-house and all the toys within.

It is testament the the quality of the place that by the time we'd unpacked and had a walk along the beach to Bettystown, we were already talking about when we might be able to return! We were sad to leave.

We have just had a 3-night stay in Little Orchard cottage with our 21-month old daughter and would highly recommend these cottages for a relaxing break. The setting and scenery is beautiful and the cottages are restored and maintained to a very high standard, with everything provided. The beach with gate access is only 30 seconds away and there is also a lovely orchard and a playground (with lots of toys, buckets & spades etc so you don't need to pack the kitchen sink). Our daughter loved it and best of all slept brilliantly due to all the sea air! Roger and Liz are lovely and give a very warm welcome, with tea and scones on arrival and a complimentary bottle of champagne.

I stayed here with my boyfriend for 3 nights and I honestly couldn't recommend it highly enough. The 'Garden Cottage' which we stayed in was gorgeous; it was warm, homely and quiet and has an amazing view of the landscaped gardens. The bed was also huge and very comfortable. The house is very well equipped with all the utensils you would need for cooking.
The beach is a 2minute walk from the cottages and is great, it makes for a lovely mornming stroll as its long and flat.
We had dinner in a lovely restaurant in Bettystown called Relish (about a 10min walk from the cottage), would be worth a visit if you’re looking for some good quality food!
All in all it was a very relaxing enjoyable weekend and im looking forward to returning!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Garden Cottage which was was overlooking the gardens, lovely to sit out looking at...

We really enjoyed our stay in the Irish Cottages over the Bank holiday May weekend. We stayed for 3 nights in the Honeymoon cottage. The size is ideal for a couple, cozy and warm, very clean with all amenities including a great power shower and large bath. Very nice touches by Roger and Liz, which included a bottle of champagne on arrival, fresh scones with Butter and jam, and the Irish Times the next morning. There is internet access and TV which we didnt use much as we walked a gorgeous beach every day. The cottages are very secure behind key pad gates at the main entrance and also the entrance to the beach so also ideeal for families with young children. We would recommend also eating at Relish which is approx only 5 -10 mins walk away. Really great meal with light entertainment from a pianist. Would highly recommend a stay at the Irish cottages, a gem we were delighted to find and will most certainly be coming back!

Room Tip: If travelling with Kids, stay in the larger cottages, which really are a great size.

Myself and my husband stayed in the Apple Loft Cottage for 3 nights and we had a fabulous time! The cottages are top class and so are the staff! We enjoyed a lovely meal in Relish and had plenty of long walks on the beach. It truly was a most relaxing break!
