The hotel has seen many years. Built in a traditional Mexican style, it has an attractive courtyard with surrounding rooms. We were greeted courteously at the entrance reception, and assigned our room. The room was small with two double beds; it had a high-celling and looked out onto a bare tiny courtyard. Like the room itself, the bathroom was clean and came with the usual toiletries, a hair drier and a shower.
We spoke no Spanish, the staff no English. Even at 800 pesos, the price seemed high for an older hotel with no amenities. Voices and noise in traditional Mexican hotels can be noticeable. The beds are usually firm.
The hotel is only a short walk to the plaza where we found cafés, restaurants and a tourist office. At the latter we bought a tour that took us to a agave field and then to a large tequila making operation. That was well-worthwhile.
