“A beautiful B&B in a relaxing environment”
Reviewed May 13, 2012

This year we decided to take our first short stay break in Victoria which is a favourite destination of ours. Having explored the Yarra Valley, Melbourne City, Ballarat, Bendigo, Daylesford and the Great Ocean Road over the past couple of years we were interested in somewhere within easy access to Melbourne given our visit was only 4 days duration.

What surprised us was that Mount Dandenong isn’t as well represented as the other places we have visited and it was by accident we chose it, looking for accommodation in close proximity to the famed Edna Walling Gardens. What a surprise it was to wend our way up the mountain, passing through a number of beautiful villages along the way to Adeline Bed & Breakfast. The gardens took a backseat this visit as we spent our time exploring the villages and hamlets up and down the mountain. Surprisingly we weren’t even seduced by the sights, sounds and attractions of Melbourne which traditionally forms part of any of our trips to Victoria.

What made our visit complete was the welcoming hospitality of Denis and Eileen McDonnell, owners of Adeline Bed & Breakfast. From the minute we entered the driveway we knew we were in for something special; the gardens are beautiful and the house inviting. Eileen had the heating on, fresh flowers on display and a breakfast basket to make our mouths water. The interior of the house is both comfortable and familiar but at the same time every detail has been thought through: handmade chocolates; quality towels & linen; books, magazines, games & music; information on attractions, places of interest and events; and of course a well-stocked wood stack and expertly stacked fire ready for use. Further Denis and Eileen’s knowledge of local places of interest and quality cafes and restaurants was priceless. Adeline B&B and Mount Dandenong is definitely on our list of places to return to.

I would recommend this trip to anyone who likes to set their own pace, enjoys beautiful surroundings, interesting places to visit and experience, and quality creature comforts. Well done Denis and Eileen.

Cheers

We stayed in the Majestic suite just after the Easter break for 2 nights. It was magnificent, and much larger than we expected. Eileen and Denis made our stay so wonderful. There were fresh flowers in the suite, chocolates, wine, great breakfast provisions, music, dvd's... there was nothing more to add. We really loved the 1920's cottage style accommodation too - everything was decorated and furnished accordingly. The gardens are just beautiful as well. The location is excellent - just down the road from major attractions and restaurants, but far away enough to be quiet and just magical.

Room Tip: Majestic suite was lovely.

A place to still your soul and let your creativity run free - What perfect peace and beauty. Real food, real books, real roses and tulips and real comfort! So many thoughtful touches to surprise and delight us. I think Fern Cottage is my spiritual home and we imagined living there! But now we are home again and the wonderful thing is that we can return, again and again.

Please don't change too much - see you next year on our second wedding anniversary.

We stayed here two years ago while visiting family and loved it then. And as a creature of habit i didn't feel the need to 'try' somewhere else.

The gardens are more beautiful than i remember, and it was lovely to escape the family back to the comfort of the Fern suite. They only have two cottages so it is quiet and has it's own outdoor seating area amongst the ferns (obviously how it got it's name). Which was lovely with a cup of tea.

The fridge was well stocked and a perfect excuse for a long lazy breakfast. Just as the fire was a perfect excuse for lazy cosy evenings. It's a shame we had to leave each day for family visits.

Room Tip: My favourite is the Fern Suite. with a secluded outdoor area, it is gorgeous.

My husband and I absolutely loved this BnB it was fantastically organised with everything a person could ask for... Everything was supplied not a thing out of place. The smell of the freshly cut flowers, the beautiful little antiques and trinkets set out perfectly. It was straight out of a magazine of old world cottage charm! With a few modern necessities, like the double spa open fire place and super comfy bed. There is not a bad thing I could say about it! My husband said sitting in his rocking lounge chair reading his book all he needed was a pipe to smoke like in the old days ha ha:-) We also went to a local restaurant which picked us up and dropped us home. It was the most fantastic food ever (Wild oak if your interested) We also got in home massages which really topped it off. Eileen and Dennis were very welcoming and great hosts. The view outside while eating your hearty breakfast was also a pleaser to the end of our nights stay there. Majestic as the name goes:-)

Could not have asked for nicer accommodation for our 'babymoon'. Our hosts had thought of everything, with fantasic breakfast provisions, extras like vases of cut flowers and a lovely bottle of wine and chocolates upon our arrival. The Majestic Suite was beautifully appointed with the open fire place making for a very romantic and cosy stay. Would definitely return and would recommend anyone to visit!
