Had a four night Northern Lights Quest here. Whole thing was well organised. Met at the airport by Katrina who popped up throughout our trip to check-in which was nice and reassuring.

Got our timetable, room key and "Aurora Alarm Device" (good ole Nokia phone that received text messages) on our coach trip to Harriniva from Kittila airport which was about 75km away.

Once we arrived, we dropped our bags off and went to collect our "equipment" which were thick boots, gloves, boiler suits and hats. Recommend wearing these as they suited the weather better than your ski gear you take. Plus, they're good protective gear against dirt and snow.

Activities were great and we'll lead by our guides Mark and Mia. Worked very well as a team and enthusiastic about the organised trips being snowmobiling night and day, snowshoeing in the dark in the forrest, reindeer farm and searching for the lights by minibus.

The husky ride is amazing and a must try. As is the cross country skiing lead by Mia and Saara.

Food was good. Nothing to complain about with buffet starters and desserts. Main courses were served to the table.

Would definitely recommend coming here and trying as much as you can. Even if you don't like dogs, you'll love the huskies. If you like adventure and speed you'll love the snowmobiles. If you love walking you'll love the cross country skiing and snowshoeing in search of the lights. If you don't like the cold, you'll still love it here by wrapping up in layers of thermals and the suits they give you. No excuses for not coming.

Despite not seeing the Northern Lights we had a good time, dog sledging, snow mobiling, ice fishing, rein deer farm and cross country skiing. When not on activities sat in the bar drinking beer at about 6 Euros for a little less than a pint. Reasonable for nordic prices. We all brought with us a bottle or two (scotch, wine, etc.) so if we weren't in the bar we sat in the room which had a decent size table (take some nuts and nibbles!). We were expecting some strange Scandanavian food involving herrings but apart from a strange beetroot lasagna (which didn't have any pasta in it) the food was pretty good - beef, chicken, perch, salmon, cheeses, etc. Tea and coffee were free during meal times but then charged at eu1.5 and eu2.5 respectively so I was pleased I had brought my travelling kettle. The hotel cups were small so a trip into town was made to purchase a souvenir 'Finland' mug that would hold a man-sized cuppa! Temperatures were mild for the time of year, around -1C. -15C would have been more the norm. When doing static things like sitting in a rein-deer sleigh I needed all my layers, even with the thermal boiler suits that the hotel supplies. Had fun, hope you did too.

Room Tip: If you here a strange, short rumbling noise like a piece of heavy furniture being moved it is the sn...

Booked to stay at this hotel via The Aurora Zone which came with a variety of activities included.
Hotel is a classic alpine kind of ski hotel, rooms are basic but nice and clean. I'm a vegetarian and all of the meals were perfectly acceptable within the hotel and they were happy to adapt which I know can be a problem in Nordic countries. Staff were really friendly and always willing to help. Husky sleigh ride was fantastic and I would say a must do experience for anyone heading to the hotel. The huskies are only a few hundred metres from the hotel as are the snowmobiles so you literally have everything on your doorstep. Only problem is if you wanted to be close to town or anything it's quite a walk, about 2 miles I think (I never did it) but the hotel has a bar and shop and with activities filling up most of the day it wasn't an issue for me. The hotel staff also helped me set up my camera for taking photos of the northern lights which was useful as I had absolutely no idea.

First impressions are very important, so when I arrived at the airport at Kittila i was greeted by the lovely Katriona from Scotland. Good start. Then on to the hotel at Harriniva. Hanna on reception was very helpful and always smiling. Nothing seemed to much trouble. So far so good.
Shared a large room with a couple of guys that were on the same 5 day husky safari as myself.
The rest of the group we met at dinner, along with our guide Hanski.
The next day it was the start of our adventure. We were all given instructions on handling the dogs and sledge from our guide, then we were off.
The whole trip was brilliant from start to finish. The help we recieved from Hanski, the superb lunches she cooked on an open fire, and the lovely dinners she prepared, would put most restaurants to shame. The way she handled everything throughout the trip was a tribute to her love of the outdoors, her dogs, and her efforts to make sure her guests had a great time. We'll done Hanski.
Driving the huskies over frozen lakes and through woodlands, sitting chatting with the rest of the team next to a roaring log fire in the evening after dinner is something I will always remember.
The trip is hard work. You have to muck-in with the chores, and the log cabins are very basic, but if you have a sense of adventure go for it.
Thanks again Hanski for a wonderful time.

Room Tip: They supply your outer clothing, boots and furry hat, but bring plenty of extra layers including glo...

We did the Northern Lights Quest through The Aurora Zone. The weather was exceptionally cold on our first day making it too cold for the planned activities (we were warned this could happen). We took the opportunity to visit the spa for a massage which was very nice.
Thankfully the next day was warmer and we were able to reschedule all our activities and fitted them all in. Snowmobile and husky safaris were great, despite my ability to fall off every type of vehicle I drove! Great fun spent all day laughing. Trip to reindeer farm was good but mainly because we got to ride our snowmobiles there and back. Snow shoe safari, well if you like trudging through snow you will enjoy it, wasnt my cup of tea.
Not sure whether the evening searches for northern lights are genuine or just a time filler, we tried 3 different modes of transport and didnt find the lights on any of them. The mobile phone aurora alerts are a great addition, we finally saw the lights on our last night thanks to receiving a text half an hour after we had gone to bed - would have missed them if not for the alerts. The phone rental was included in the cost of our trip but I would recommend paying for them if you have to. The food was all fine, a bit samey but this trip was never about the food. Our accommodation was good - we knew it would be basic but were pleasantly surprised - small kitchen area with sink, kettle, microwave etc, bedroom upstairs on a mezzanine floor, drying cupboard for our suits. We met some lovely people and had a great holiday.
Katrina the rep was great and our guide Dirk was also good, very knowledgeable.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a drying cupboard if possible - they dont all have them.

We really enjoyed our 5 day stay in this hotel over Christmas (independent trip).Highlights were husky sledding, cross country skiing and walking around experiencing the snowy environment. The staff went out of their way to be helpful and were very flexible about changing the activities we had booked. I was sick on my first day and decided to miss the snow mobile trip at night and there was no problem transferring that money towards a different activity and we could have had a refund if we wanted. One receptionist brought in some cold medication from her own supply after work because the pharmacy had shut for an extended period due to Christmas and I wanted some decongestant. I was very impressed...felt like staying with family. The food was splendid and plenty of options for vegetarians.
The only slight negative was the cloudy weather, which meant we didn't see any great displays of northern lights (we saw a few blurry lights). Also, my husband didn't really enjoy the snowmobile ride as they are really noisy and juddery with a strong smell of exhaust fumes, which is ok if that is your thing. Overall a fabulous holiday and we would love to return.

Room Tip: We had a corner suite a balcony which was handy to store skis and easy to access to go outside quic...

We booked Northern Lights Quest package thru Aurora Zone which, I think, is just a travel agency.
To get one thing out of the way which u should be aware of. AZ booked us thru Helsinki to Rovaniemi. We met 7 others from England and were shoehorned into a small van for a 3 HOUR drive in a snow storm to Harraniva. None of us had any idea we were in for this miserable ride at 10 PM. While the AZ travel details were good, this was a disappointing detail they failed to share. And the van was woefully inadequate!! 9 people started this trip in a lousy mood!

This was not Harranivas fault and we had a great time!! Our guide for the 3 days was Scotty. What a very enjoyable, knowledgable professional. We did 2 snowmobile safaris, a long dog sled trip, and the reindeer sled ride. Scotty made all this work and it was a blast! I suspect the Lights thing is overplayed. While we saw nothing and had 2 pretty good nites where it was possible, we had a good time. The folks we met from England made it special too.

Couple things you should know. They provide excellent clothing, including boots, gloves, and helmets which we kept for the duration of our visit. You will need thermal underwear. Flashlight and headlamp are helpful but I didn't find them necessary. And it was mostly dark for our whole trip. Bring a box of Kleenex seriously - not provided. There was a large group of families with young, UNRULY kids with unattentive parents. Might be nice if the hotel could pack noisy groups in their own wing.

Accommodations are fine and very clean. Meals were good, nothing fancy, and the entire restaurant staff was terrific. Adequate bar. 4 nights made this a memorable trip. You will have a great experience esp. If you can get with Scotty!!!!!!!!!
