We spent two nights at Ice Hotel and our third night was at Abisko.
Disappointingly the chairlift was closed due to high winds and overall bad weather. However safety comes first.
We had paid for a dinner upgrade which was on the whole average at best. The main course of reindeer cooked in red wine was really tough and the other courses were okay but nothing to rave about.
The most concerning was our room (47) bedroom was basic but fine however when we opened the toilet it stank of stale urine. We were moved to another room which was fine.
We had a guided night treck which was enjoyable but couldn’t see much in the dark.
Staff were really helpful and nice.
On the whole really disappointing experience and really wished we just spent our three nights in Kiruna.

A must visit if you go all the way to Abisko! There is the Touristica hotel which is fancy - nice ,has a restaurant where we had a great early dinner. We had booked a sky station ride for the night.( One has to book tixs for this early as only a few tourists can be accomodated at the top) Unfortunately the sky was overcast that day so we just saw a few streaks of the NL but the previos day we'ad seen an amazing display of the Auroras. The cafe on top serves snacks and warm drinks, wine, alcohol etc. The ride itself is in total darkness and slow but the quiteness of the woods is thearaputic. The deck outside is good to watch the NL & one can pop in if one gets too cold. They have a short presentation about the NL -info & the science behind this amazing natural phenomemon.

You need to snow suit up for the 30 min / 2 km open chair lift ride to the restaurant. Considering that everything comes in via chairlift and the size of the kitchen the food quality is amazing. Staff are so professional. A must do if you are in the area.

We were excited, when we booked night visit to see Northern lights.
When we reached by transfer, there was big crowd outside the main entrance.
One guide was explaining and giving instructions but We were not able to here- They should keep sound system or make arrival hall, where all instructions should be explained in visual video.
You have to wear ski suit, if you want.when you see the suit, you will think, You already have many layers! If you wear this, you can't go to restroom due to design.so we didn't wear it BUT we were chilled on the chair lift as out side temperature was -15, wind and snow.
They MUST warn people going up without suit- especially SENIORS.
They MUST have gondola for winter season.
On the station, there were only two guide which were busy in chairlift.
They MUST have more guides there, who can help for locating northern lights, set camera for photos, explain about surrounding.
They must clean washroom twice in a day to remove nasty smell.

So interesting to see other reviews of this remarkable place.. Apparently some people just can't be pleased..

Our experience? One of the most memorable evenings ever - and we travel the world!

Breathtaking scenery. Full moon brightly lighting the epic landscape of Abisko National Park. Long, but very pleasurable ski lift to the top of the mountain. Yes, cold, but the facility and staff make sure you are well clothed with warm insulated outer suits. Small group of 7 and we made lifetime friends during our 7 hours on the mountain. The restaurant at the top is small, cozy and the views are some of the most awesome we've seen anywhere in the world. Almost unbelievably, a 4 course dinner is served from 7 to 9 after a reception hour gawking at the views. Absolutely one of the best meals we've had anywhere. Sort of an unexpected 4 star Michelin dinner in the very most improbable place one could imagine. At 9 there was a meteorological presentation on the Northern Lights and what one might expect (but certainly no guarantees).. Then standing outside in -5 degree windy moonlit epic scenery one waits to see if the lights will appear. About midnight they did for us and they were astonishing. You forget the wind and the cold and just bask in the joy of a lifetime memory being experienced. Then back down the lift for 20 minutes viewing under a brilliant moon gorgeous landscapes for 60 miles. The staff and guide were wonderful. All in all, the experience of a lifetime. A long, long way from California, but if you come here, don't miss this wonderful opportunity you'll never forget :-)
