Location: The location is just near Abisko Ostra railway station. Get down at the station, cross the railway track and walk 200 meters to the direction opposite to where the train is heading (assuming that you take the Stockholm-Narvik night train!). Walkable distance to the lake and super market.
Staff: There is no reception but we found a note on the main doors with our name and the corresponding room. You can check-in after 12:00 PM even in the absence of the owner. He will be back around 4:00 PM to collect the payment. The staff are friendly but I could not take the 5 minute demonstration on how to wash yourself and clean the utensils with minimum amount of water. These guys are very quick in responding to the e-mails and even have a page in facebook.
Rooms: There are four double bedded (bunk beds) rooms on the first floor and we stayed in room number 5. The room was like a cramped prison cell but without any lock!. Room number 5 and the room near the kitchen are too small (and noisy because the kitchen is the only common area in the floor). If your plan to stay there, please ask for a bed in the other two rooms which are much more spacious. The rooms are very simple with out any wardrobe or luggage space. Bring your own linen/sleeping bag or purchase it from the hostel.
Facility: There is only one washroom in each floor. First floor = 1 washroom for 8 guys Ground floor (there is a four bedded dorm) = 1 washroom for 12 guys. Its real inconvenient if the majority of the guests has to get ready at the same time to take the same guided tour. You can rent the jump-in suits, snow shoes and other gears from the hostel. I borrowed the overall suit and snow shoes for free for one night but some other guests had to pay 110 SEK/day for the overall and snow shoes. You can use the internet (wifi) free of cost. There is a sauna (nude) in the hostel and you can use it for free.
In summary, Abisko Fjallturer Hostel is good for people on a budget and who intend to stay short (1 or 2 nights).
