“Splendid location, spotless and lovely rooms, fantastic food.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2013

We booked for the location and highly recommend it for the thoughtful hospitality, lovely and comfortable rooms, good library and the best food you can find. The lodge is perched near the crest of a gentle grasslands hill, with a gracious view of the farm and ranch lands to the south. It is so quiet you can hear the grass sing in the breeze. The heritage building has been exquisitely preserved, with timbers scrubbed and polished. Because it is a century old rooms are smaller than a Holiday Inn, and bathrooms are shared. The food is the huge surprise; it is difficult to find food this good in most cities, finding it in the middle of nowhere when you have the leisure to enjoy it is a bonus worth more than I can say. The meals are not cheap, but not overpriced. All in, this was the best find of a two week journey.

Chilcotin Lodge was a delight. We loved its history and
the history of the whole area. We had a gourmet dinner and great
breakfast. The attention to detail by the hosts was admirable and this
old building (1940s) is lovingly maintained. It is a great gateway
to the grasslands, which were stunning. We happened to be the only
guests there, which may have accounted for the peace and quiet.

We stayed for one night and were not disappointed. The lodge is like stepping back in time. Rustic enough but all mod cons. Loved the four poster bed.
Ria made us feel so welcome. She was very knowledgeable about areas we should visit. Food was great, certainly not "Pub Food", as stated in a previous review. Everything was prepared and served by Ria and Hennie. They were both so friendly you felt like you were old friends. Hope to visit again.

The lodge is a wonderful heritage building, but the prices were too high for the amenities provided as rooms were small. Why was the parking such an issue? Lovely lodge but cold atmosphere - what was wrong? Too many negative signs and rules and regulations - was this a camp for kids or adults. The beer was cold. The dinner was beautifully cooked, but dessert was store bought and disappointing. Meal was over priced and the accommodation was very much over priced. Shared bathrooms, two for ten rooms, was not okay for the price.

Your review is really appreciated !
I like to response on a view remarks, thank you for your compliments about our dinners and Heritage Historic Lodge, we promote the Lodge as a 1940 Western Experiance, Nicely restored with a unique homey atmosphere. All the information of our amenities are on our website and advertisements. You were traveling to the Lodge on recommendations of the Travel Centre in Williams Lake. They handed you the info sheet from our Lodge with all our accurate amenities.
Reservations where made over the phone by you and the rates were confirmed by your party as well. When you arrived , I gave you and your party a tour , you looked very happy with what was showed to you., no remarks about sharing the two bathrooms and the size of our beautifull decorated rooms. I let you chose the rooms and you loved it, your decision was to stay the night.

There was no issue on the parking from my side, only that you parked twice in front of the Firedoor and we have to keep that free. I gave you all the time to park on the parking area no rush, when ever you were ready. I remember it was very hot that day and maybe a little to much to remove the car again , I understand that very well.!

Notes , you called it regulations, are just the normal housekeeping/ hotel keepers act / fire escape sheets, all is prohibited from the Approved Tourist Accommdation. The note in the Bathrooms is a environmental one , you see that now in every hospitality business. As for the bathroom traffic , we are never booked with the rooms so it works all fine, we clean after every use, so far no remarks from other guests, because we give a tour so that guests see what they get.

I'm so sorry to see, that it gave you a - cold atmosphere - impression and that you were disapointed, special.... after you wrote in the GuestBook , Thank you for a wonderfull stay in your beautifull Lodge...?

I wrote you a email to go over some remarks, and to offer you the recipe
from our homemade Cheese Cake. But as for now we did not have any contact.

Again thank you for your expressions and if you still feel the need to contact us, we are here!!

We stayed one night on our way from Jasper to Tweedsmuir. Really worthwhile stay, as we visited Falwell Canyon sheep reserve (saw sheep) and went down to the river to see the hoo doos.
The Lodge is lovingly managed by the Dutch owners, who have restored this very historical spot. Plan to spend some time reading the books around the lodge, and learning about the history of the area. And take your time driving through to Bella Coola, there is a lot to explore on the way, and be sure to get off the main road. Our twin bedded room was nice, with nice handmade quilts, a sink, and 2 bath rooms down the hall. Nice decorations that are appropriate.
Rea warmed up to our many questions, and was proud to tell us some wonderful stories about the area. The breakfast was really delicious, sort of a big fruit filled crepe.
dinner can be provided with prior arrangement. Only disappointment was no Wifi, you are sort of in the boonies out here. Lots of common rooms to relax in. No credit cards taken, payment by cash or debit.

My brother and I spent two nights at Chilcotin Lodge last week, and loved it. We were birding in the Becher's Prairie area, and found this lodge convenient and comfortable. Up at dawn, we did not have to drive anywhere - a walk from the lodge was quite pleasant and productive. The proprietor, Ria kept the hummingbird feeders fresh, and there was a lot of activity there. Anyplace you can hear Sandhill Cranes yodeling in the morning has to be great!

We chose to camp at Chilcotin Lodge based, in part, on TripAdvisor reviews. Even so, we were not prepared for how very much we liked it. The camping is set quite near the lodge but with views across the Chilcotin grasslands for miles and miles. The hook-ups for our small trailer were more than adequate and the restrooms and showers were immaculate. We stayed for three nights, partly because we wanted to slow down, quiet down and unwind. Our explorations to Junction Sheep Provincial Park and Farwell Canyon were filled with endless vistas, so many wildflowers and silence and solitude. Good for the soul. BUT -- the fabulous, unexpected stunner was the food at Chilcotin Lodge -- delicious, varied and sophisticated . We had three dinners, each one creatively prepared and beautifully served. It was clear that there was attention to detail throughout -- in the chosen ingredients, careful preparation and beautiful presentation. On our last night, we were served a meal that we knew we would remember for a long, long time. Whether you are staying in the lodge or camping, don't deprive yourself of these meals. Add in a genuine hospitality and friendliness and you have the highlight of our two-week trip. Well worth seeking out.
