“Feels like home!”
Reviewed May 14, 2013

The place is special by all means: secluded, exclusive and luxurious but at the same time cosy and intimate. We felt like home, staff was very nice without being too friendly, the owner has a true passion for his hotel and the family run atmosphere takes you back centuries ago when people had lots of guests come to their castles and enjoy good dining, wine and relaxation.
It may seem expensive but it is worth every penny and overall it is better value for money than other 5* ranked hotels in Scotland. The food could've been better but, again, at UK standards it was quite good! We'll mostly remember the numerous fire places lit on demand, the silent night we enjoyed, the jacuzzi after running a 7k under poring rain and the time the owner spent with us discussing our potential wedding venue in Eriska. We can't make a decision yet as our "venue tour" is not yet over but whatever the decision on the wedding we will come back!!

Room Tip: Room "Shuna" was quiet and enjoyed a nice view on the garden.

Our family has visited the Isle of Eriska six times, and we've loved the experience every time. Not only is the hotel beautiful and very relaxing, but the trails all over the island are so much fun to explore. Badgers visit the library steps every night, and herons nest at the far end of the island. The food is delicious, and the afternoon tea includes wonderful treats. The beds are very comfortable.

Room Tip: If you are traveling with young children, consider booking the cottage as a family. We did this onc...

A whole island just for you. The hotel is a beautiful stone mansion with modernly refurbished rooms. The staff was great even though most of them were lacking the much welcome scottish accent (most of them being foreigners).

Scotland hidden secret is its cuisine, and the isle of Eriska restaurant is amazing. We were served delicious diners during all our stay. Not to mention the great breakfast and high tea.

Spa and massages are great. I even enjoyed clay pigeon shooting.

Expensive but worth every penny of it.

We went to celebrate a wedding anniversary (not our first visit) and can't wait to go back. The booking experience can be a bit hit or miss, but when you get there the staff and the attention to detail make it a special place to be. The food is superb in quality and presentation. It is also plentiful to the point where our 3 day stay didn't involve a single lunch. Breakfast, afternoon tea and dinner were more than enough. There is plenty to do on the island if you like the outdoors, pampering at the spa, the gym or the sports hall. We saw badgers, seals, deer and an otter as we ambled around the place. The staff make Eriska feel homely and welcoming without the service being fussy or intrusive

My husband and I were introduced to the Isle of Eriska Hotel nine years ago, by a great friend of ours. She described it to us as 'a healing place'. It is. We have been here at least once a year since. First of all, Eriska has a unique identity. It was founded by Robin Buchanan-Smith, a man of spirituality as well as empathy, and his vision has been developed by his son, Beppo. The hotel is a nineteenth-century country house with imaginatively converted outbuildings, set in an island of incredible natural beauty. Wild things, animals and plants, are cherished, as are the guests. The staff and superb, steeped in the atmosphere and providing the most discreet and kind service to guests. I have watched the cleaners at work, and their dedication matches that of all their colleagues. Head Chef Simon is magnificent; dinner in the delightful restaurant, both historic in appearance and modern in comfort and style, is a daily delight. The Highlands and Islands provide indescribable beauty and historic and cultural interest. The small island which is so much the hotel is criss-crossed by walks in magnificent scenery. It is indeed a healing place. Rooms in the house itself are beautifully presented. The spa suites are splendid: each has a bedroom with its own dressing room and bathroom, a delightful living room, a conservatory, a walled garden and a hot tub. The only advice is that you need to come here regularly, for Eriska soon becomes a part of your life. Families are made very welcome and the sporting and spa facilities, including golf, are excellent.

Room Tip: I don't think you could go wrong! The spa suites are superb, as are the cottages for families. B...

This is one of those hotels where is it really hard to think of something original to say about the superbeness of the rooms, food, service and location, that has not been said before in a review. We spent a spontaneous day and night here, and were absolutely delighted.

Arriving just after lunch, we were able to get straight into our room, and to enjoy the island, the spa, the afternoon tea, the relaxing ambiance, drinks in the drawing room, the dinner (of course!), badgers on the lawn, and a fine breakfast. It was like an exotic mini-break in less than 24 hours, and every bit as rejuvenating.

Really all that needs to be said is - if you have the chance, don't miss it! The food is as good as we've eaten anywhere, and that includes quite a few top-notch places. Indeed, we had to think back to a meal at the 2-Michelin-star Villa Crespi in Italy (at €460 for two) to remember any meal we had had that compared.

Personally, if there is an 'adult' (by which I mean child-free) feel about the place (whether by chance or by design) I can only say that enhances the place. But it seems to me there would be lots to do, and I expect a warm welcome, for any young people who behaved in a way that didn't spoil it for the other guests.

Room Tip: Shuna may not be their swankiest room, but it a fine, spacious room with nice views in two direction...
