Most people just drive through Gondo, thinking of their final destination, and forget to look left and right. It's a pity, because this place has a lot to offer. The Stockalperturm, for one thing, is a wonderful place to stay. The modern design, with the elegant alliance of wood and stones, plus clever lighting, is a true pleasure for the eyes and soul. We stayed three nights in a room on the fourth flour and had a great time. Dinner food was delicious, with a good selection of reasonably priced wines from the Valais (available "open", i.e. no need to buy entire bottles). Breakfast was ok, although we were disappointed not to get the delicious Walliser Roggenbrot (traditional rye bread from the Valais) we were hoping for.
From Gondo, you can hike to many wonderful and quite secret natural spots. We went to the Zwischbergen valley and hiked up towards the Tschawinersee: wonderful wild blueberries, strawberries and rasperries were waiting for us, plus a lot of great views. No other hikers in sight, just great!More
