If you are looking for a peaceful holiday in remote and beautiful countryside, this is a great place to find it. Martin and Deborah live in the farmhouse at Wheeldon Trees and there are 8 cottages converted from a large barn. They are the most attentive hosts.. nothing is too much trouble. If your tin opener breaks they will pop over in half an hour with a new one. Their delight in their eco-friendly lifestyle is infectious and inspiring: they encourage cycling, reimburse your bus fare to encourage sustainable transport, and encourage you to feed the hens with your leftovers.
The cottages are small but very comfortably furnished, with good kitchen equipment (including an ecokettle), thick towels and bath toiletries.
Our family (3 boys and us) loved being able to cycle from the door to the excellent Peak District cycle paths, plus lots of excellent pubs and teashops. We hope and plan to go back soon.

Stayed at Wheeldon Trees Farm Cottages with three old university friends. We were warmly welcomed on arrival by Deborah and Martin. We stayed in Lomas Cottage (one of several stone built cottages) which sleeps four. The accommodation was very clean and furnished to a very high standard. The beds are a delight to sleep on - very comfortable. Nice good sized bath to ease aching limbs after excercising in the Peak District. Good stock of high quality ready-made meals available to re-heat if you can't be bothered to cook or go to the pub - and also fresh locally sourced bacon, sausage etc is available. There's also a communal building that is used as a games room (pool, table footie, games, books, DVDs etc) but can also has a kitchen and can be used for large groups wishing to dine together. It is also worth noting the proximity to the Royal Oak at Sparklow which is one of the best pubs in the Peak District - you will never leave hungry or thirsty! In fact we needed doggy bags!
The site is heated by ground-source heat pumps and the cottages are equipped with low-energy appliances and eco-friendly washing and cleaning products. There is every encouragement to recycle as much of your waste as possible.
We had the perfect short break and Deborah and Martin even arranged for balmy, sunny weather in March!

Just returned from a three night stay at Wheeldon Trees Farm. We stayed in Ollernshaw cottage (1 bed) with our dog. The cottage was spotless and very nicely furnished, we couldn't fault it. The setting is lovely with great views. Deborah & Martin are great and full or useful information about the area.

There's a excellent pub (The Royal Oak) 30 minutes walk away that does very good food. Remember to take the torches from the cottage for the walk home!

We would not hesitate to recommend Wheeldon Trees Farm if you're looking for a relaxing break in 1st class accomodation.

12 of us came on a community weekend last weekend (27-29 March 2009) - and we had a fantastic time. Deborah and Martin helped us arrange food, walks and lots of other details to help make the weekend a success. We relaxed together in Sheldon lounge and had discussions, ate meals and watched a film in the Long Room. For a small gathering (maybe 8 - 16 people), this is a great place for an alternative luxury weekend in amazing countryside with lovely local walks. Full marks to Wheeldon Trees Farm Cottages for helping us to enjoy a great weekend together.

I was taken to Wheeldon Trees as a surprise birthday present by my partner...
After being presented with an OS map and set of coordinates I was thrilled when we pulled up to Wheeldon Trees Farm Cottages..
Set in the most beautiful countryside in the stunning Peak District, the cottages are immaculately presented within a lovely courtyard.
As we arrived we were initially greeted by Oz the dog and his very waggy tail, then by Deborah and Martin who really were the most wonderful hosts. They made sure we had everything we needed, which we most certainly did!!
The cottage was gorgeous inside, cosy and perfectly presented. The little touches like a jug of milk in the fridge on arrival so we could make a brew straight away and the table set up with biscuits made us feel so welcome. The underfloor heating was also brilliant, particularly after a day in walking boots!!
Our cocker spaniel, Pickle was also made to feel right at home and Martin and Deborah provided us with a dog towel when we needed to wash her!
I really can't rate this place highly enough.. Fabulous setting, wonderful warm welcome and stunning accommodation..
Buxton is only a 10 minute drive away and Bakewell is around 20ish minutes from the cottages.
The 2 dog friendly pubs we visited were The Pack Horse in Crowdicote and The Anglers Arms in Millers Dale.
The Pack Horse provided us with a really warm welcome and served the most delicious, reasonably priced food. (Their steak and ale pie is exquisite!)... The Anglers Arms has a small room for walkers and people with dogs and serve local ales which is nice, however the food wasn't the best... still, worth a look if you're in the area to have a pint of good local beer!
To conclude, we had the most wonderful stay at Wheeldon Trees.. If you're after a really friendly, warm atmosphere with a plethora of stunning walks on your doorstep then you can't go wrong..
Thanks again to Deborah, Martin and Oz for a great weekend.

We booked all the cottages for my 30th birthday and we had a fantastic time. The cottages were perfect, very clean and really well appointed. Deborah and Martin were very helpfull and really flexible which is a must when organising such a big group! I would definately stay at the cottages again and would recommend them to anyone.
