“Glorious weekend break in the Peak District”
Reviewed May 13, 2013

Wheeldon Trees Fam cottages offered us everything we needed for a relaxing bank holiday weekend break.
Debra and Martin where lovely hosts and made sure we had everything we could possibly need. The cottages are eco friendly (Note: that does not mean basic), each cottage is really welcoming and comfy. On arrival we were welcomed by our hosts and on entering the cottage found they had provided us with homemade cake, biscuits, tea, coffee, milk etc.
Each cottage has lots of useful information about the local area, places to visit, pubs, restaurants and leaflets are provided detailing walks from the door (of various distances) many of which include a stop off at a pub or eatery.
A big bonus was the glorious weather we had all weekend which enabled us to get out and enjoy the lovely walks each day.
There is a well equipped games room which would have been really useful anusement had the weather been wet, also an onsite is a mini shop which we found to be really useful especially the home made meals, soups and puddings of which we enjoyed together with various locally sourced products.
We can hole heatedly recommend Wheeldon Trees if you are looking for a relaxing break and are looking forward to our next visit.

From the moment we arrived we experienced the luxury and beauty of Wheeldon Trees, a setting we would certainly recommend and undoubtedly return to.

On our arrival we enjoyed complimentary locally made cake and biscuits. The hosts were always on hand to assist as necessary, but not in an intrusive way. The on-site shop was very helpful, with a range of delicious meals - this took the hassle out of finding food on the first night!

Our dogs were also made to feel very welcome!

We stayed at Wheeldon Trees Farm Holiday Cottages for the bank holiday over 4 - 6 May 2013. The booking process was very well done without any hassles. The accommodation had everything that you needed and very comfy and was ideally situated in the Peak District, with wonderful walks and cycling paths. The electric bikes were a highlight for us. We received good information about the Peak District, recommendations for pubs etc, from Deborah and Martin beforehand. I would highly recommend anyone staying at Wheeldon Trees Farm Holiday Cottages and we would definitely go back. We wished to had had enough time to spend more time there doing more of the walks in the area.

Wheeldon Trees Farm Holiday Cottages are outstanding and the hosts are exceptional, you receive the warmest of welcomes and nothing is too much for them, to make your stay fantastic. I have two large dogs and they are also very welcome. The cottages, hosts, staff, local area & scenery are fabulous and set in a lovely tranquill setting in the Peak District. The local area is more than friendly, helpful and a great place for dogs too as the local pubs, most of the places of interest are dog friendly, which means the dogs and yourselves can have great days out. I cannot recommend the cottages for a holiday more highly. My fourth holiday at Wheeldon Trees Farm is already booked and we cannot wait for more fun, great walks and places to visit. Everything is there for you at the cottages, even fabulous home made meals if you require them. The only things you need are your clothes and toothbrush! Love the "green" living aspect of natural resourses and great recycling facilities on site. Brilliant space, walled gardens and amenities, cottages emaculatly clean and tidy. Loved bottle feeding the lambs too.

Room Tip: I have stayed in Elliot Cottage and Lomas Cottage - both have been fantastic

My husband and I and our dog stayed in the Walker's Rest Cottage just before the May bank holiday. The cottage is perfect for a couple, very well equipped and comfortable. There is a small enclosed patio at the front which was great for the dog to lie out on. The bedroom has a large very comfortable bed. The bathroom has a bath and separate shower - which was great - lovely powerful shower for blasting away at aching muscles! Nice toiletries too. The kitchen/living room area was smallish, but well laid out with a little table to sit at, a comfortable sofa and TV, with DVD player. We borrowed a couple of films from the library in the Long Room. The owners encourage green living, which is fantastic and made very easy, with well laid out recycling places, including the chickens' feeding bowls!
We ate out every night, so didn't really use the kitchen or sample the food from the larder, but did have the breakfast basket which was lovely - fresh bread, yoghurts, granola etc etc. We came for a walking holiday and it was glorious, as was the weather. Amongst others, we walked the Monsal trail and a lovely route around Gradbach, which were both about a 20 minute drive from the cottage. We also did a couple of the short walks from the cottage in the evening.
We ate out at Carriages (10 min drive) and the Royal Oak at Hurdlow (4 mile round trip to walk, or a few minutes' drive), both of which had great food and wonderful service.
All in all a great break - lovely cottage in a stunning location with fabulous dog walks. We will definitely return!

This was our 2nd stay in Walkers Rest at Wheeldon Trees and again we had a great time. The accommodation is maintained to a very high standard and has everything that you could possibly need. As others have said, the little shop is packed with all types of goodies and useful items. We particularly value the enclosed meadow where our dog is able to roam safely and burn off lots of energy! Thank you to Deborah & Martin for providing such a lovely place to relax and enjoy.
