We have stayed here twice and recommended to others. Why? It simply has the best breakfast we have eaten and its quirky ambience and the warm welcome make it a great place to stay.

B and B found by Peak Tours. The decor was very intriguing and quirky. Rooms comfortable and lots of hot water. Proprietor was welcoming and offered refreshments during the day and not limited to breakfast time. The breakfast itself was fantastic - two fruit choices each day which included caramelised bananas, pears in quince - the porridge is to die for with home made syrup and a light cream sauce! None of your typical bacon and eggs either. I enjoyed smoked haddock and eggs poached to perfection together with Derbyshire Oatcake. Needed the walks to burn off the calories. On the last morning I enjoyed the most delicious pasta dish for breakfast - tasted wonderful even if it felt a bit strange for breakfast. Overall a lovely stay and I would certainly go back.

Room Tip: only saw room I was in and no complaints

We have to agree with pretty much all the other outstanding reviews. This B&B is in the perfect location and we were consistently cared for with offers of endless tea/coffee to be brought to our quaint, uniquely decorated bedroom. David even filled up my hot water bottle!
Breakfast was incredible and easily the best B&B breakfast either of us had ever tasted. Agreeing with others again, particularly the porridge! The location, too, is absolutely perfect for walking, everything is on the doorstep and the village contains a few warming pubs with log fires.
We would definitely go back, and would like to say a big thank you for a wonderful weekend.

Visited Parsons House this weekend for 2 nights,A quirky place thats been done up by owner David Beer. Flagstone floors, oak bench style breakfast table. Only has three b & b rooms so quiet.
We had the large double room at the front of the house..although a dark room it was cosy. A big comfortable bed..en suite(old type toilet cistern with chain pull, overhead copper headed shower with antique taps,
Fresh towels daily,

No tea trays in room which I thought might be a problem but David is only to happy to provide drinks as needed and delivered a morning Tea tray outside the door at the time we asked in the morning,Hot chocolate m,ade available on return from walks etc.

Breakfast was lovely the best porridge ever with buttermilk and syrup(other choices available such as apricot compote) followed by tradiotonal English breakfast with locally sourced bacon / sausages and pikelets

When booking David gave us the name of the pub to book in Advance as only really the local hotel and one pub to choose from. The food in the pub was excellent.(please book though)

The B & B is located 50 yards from main village centre and a perfect position with the start of a great walk opposite( we walked Hartington to Milldale and back along the river Dove..It took 4 hrs with a stop at Milldale for a cuppa. Beautiful river walk / amazing scenery and look out for the herons

This was a good find and we will return..

Do give it a go ..we loved it!!

There were other walkers staying and David provided them with a choice for packed lunches and moved there luggage on to their next destination.

Suggestions.... Maybe T making facilities in rooms would be nice.
Had to ask for glasses but were readily given on request(for water/wine)Well it was our birthdays!!!

Room Tip: Book meals at the Devonshire Arms 50 yards away in advance

David is the perfect mine host.tea on arriving, tea brought to your room in the morning.
Fantastic breakfast and the finest porridge we have ever tasted. All the fixtures and fittings have been done by David himself using old fittings from all over the UK and France, making the ambiance quirky and unique.David also took the trouble to book us a table at the local pub for our evening meal.We had a very special reason for staying at Parsons Houseon Sept 2nd,David found out and took special steps to make us even more welcome.
Truly,THE BEST B& B EVER

My husband and myself stayed at The Parsons House for the first time for one night at the end of July 2011.We holiday frequently in this area so decided to treat ourselves to a night at Parsons House as we usually stay in our family static caravan at Newhaven Caravan park. This B & B had been recommended to us by a friend and we can see why he loved it so much. It's a beautifully restored period house and Dave's attention to detail is wonderful. He chatted at length to us about all the work he has put into his property and it was very interesting to hear. His house has been a real labour of love over the years.
On our arrival we were shown to our room and Dave promply brought a tray up with hot drinks and biscuits. There are no tea making facilities in the room but this definitely wasn't a problem as Dave is happy to oblige with drinks when needed. He also asked what time we would like breakfast in the morning and arranged to bring up a tray of hot drinks half an hour before as a wake up call. One of the things we liked most about this accomodation was the fact that you are not met with time restrictions such as check in and check out times when you arrive.Everything is very relaxed at Parsons House just what we like.
After dropping off our bags and enjoying our tea and biscuits we left the b & b, crossed the road and took the footpath to the River Dove. After enjoying a long walk we arrived back at Hartington and enjoyed our evening meal sat outside the Devonshire Arms.
We stayed in the ensuite bedroom which was very spacious and the bed was huge!! As mentioned there is no television but really that's not a problem, it made a nice change and means that you are just able to enjoy the peace and quiet of Hartington.
Dave is a fabulous host and chef. (His breakfasts are second to none.)There is a choice of foods for breakfast, all locally sourced, fresh produce and nothing is too much trouble.
We would definitely return for another weekend when our three young boys next visit Nanny and Granddad. :)
Parsons House is the nicest B & B we have ever been to and we have been to plenty in the last 20 years. The fact that it's owner is one of THE nicest gentlemen you could ever wish to meet makes your stay here even more memorable.
Many thanks. Hope to see you again. Sharon and Ian Pargeter :)
