“What a find....Hard to share!”

We have just returned from a four day last minute break to Swainsley Farm staying in The Haybarn 10/10/16. I went with my wife and mum in law. A warm welcome from Chris, who was very tentative throughout our stay. A lovely touch of tea, scones and jam awaited us on arrival. All home comforts, well equipped property, spotlessly clean, a quaint shared court yard at rear with just enough previsey and fabulous views. Large kitchen area and cozy lounge. Two bedrooms, one large double room which led into the second bedroom (with two singles and a cot). Although there was no separate door it wasn't an issue for us, but would be ideal for a family with children. The addition of having the free use of the bikes was brilliant...helmets available too. We went out on them a few mornings before breakfast and from the doorstep followed the Manifold Trails. We also wanted to explore the area on foot without it being too taxing for mum so the walks we did were just perfect, stopping off for a tea and slice of cake at Wetton Mill Tea Rooms. We were genuinely sad to leave, sorry we couldn't stay longer. We will definitely be visiting again.

“Lovely peaceful holiday”
Reviewed October 12, 2016 for a stay in October 2016

We stayed in The Old Byre which is for two people. The cottage was very well equipped, very quiet with lovely views and walks from the door. We also borrowed the bikes one day and cycled down the Manifold Way. Chris & Liz made us very welcome and gave us a lovely welcome hamper.
We would highly recommend this holiday accommodation.

This was a return visit - we fell in love with the Old Byre two years ago and promised ourselves we'd be back! It's a superbly appointed and well-equipped cottage, located in a courtyard between the owners' house and a larger rentable cottage. Spectacular views along the Manifold Valley - that from the bed made us smile every morning. Liz and Chris are great - we were warmly welcomed with flowers and scones and nothing was any trouble to them. The farm's position (not far from Ashbourne, Buxton, Bakewell and Leek, close to the Manifold Trail, Dove Dale, the Tissington Trail and all manner of walking, cycling and other leisure activities) only adds to its attraction - there is so much to do, so much to explore. Our week was bathed in sunshine, and it was difficult to leave so we'll just have to go back again ......

“Picturesque paradise”
Reviewed September 4, 2016 for a stay in August 2016

This was our second stay in the Haybarn, which is located in a sheltered yard with captivating views over the Manifold Valley.

The owner welcomed us on arrival and made us aware of any changes since we'd last visited two years ago! Scones and jam were awaiting us in the kitchen and tea or coffee-making facilities, and a lovely touch being a vase of fresh flowers on the kitchen table.
Inside the property is maintained to the highest level, with relaxing leather sofas and TV in the lounge and cosy bedrooms ( one with TV ) upstairs.

Outside the property are numerous colourful plant containers and seating areas where you can relax as we did and simply appreciate that spectacular view. We particularly liked the solar candle lanterns which flickered realistically on the tables outside at night!

10 minutes drive away is the Tea Junction at Hulme End where tasty home-made soup and cakes can be appreciated, not to mention the 3 hour Jazz session we were lucky to catch ( takes place once a month ). The Cottage Kitchen on the main Ashbourne Road also serves good food and uses local produce.

So much to see and do, we were simply getting away from it all and can't wait to return.
Highly recommended!

“Lovely cottage and area”
Reviewed September 1, 2016 for a stay in March 2016

We booked this just from viewing the cottage and area online, and saw the excellent reviews. They are well justified and we echo them too. This was a perfect cottage for 2 people, exceptionally comfortable bed, nice bathroom and fantastic open plan living room and kitchen. We were welcomed with fresh bread and jams etc, which was a really nice touch. The owners were on site to help but didn't intrude. We had a great time in beautiful part of the world and would certainly come back here. Lovely weekend,

“Fantastic cottage in beautiful setting”
Reviewed August 23, 2016 for a stay in August 2016

My family (my parents, 4 year old son and myself) stayed for a week in The Coach House. The cottage is extremely well equipped with everything you could possibly need; everything is of really good quality. The kitchen is gorgeous with a great American Style fried-freezer so there's lots of room for storing food and cooking. The sofas in the lounge are very comfortable and the large screen TV and DVD player provide welcome entertainment, as do the provided board games. The beds were all very comfortable and my son loved the toys and books in his bedroom. Outside the seating is very comfortable and there is plenty of space in the paddock for little ones to run around, greet the horse in neighbouring field and observe wildlife. The provided barbecue is great and really clean, so we only had to buy charcoal, not a disposable bbq as we usually end up doing. The little welcoming touches, such as the fresh flowers in the lounge and basket of bread, cheese, chutney, milk, scones ,butter and jam were lovely and very welcome after a day of travelling. There are lots of things to do in the surrounding area, we loved Bakewell (the children's play area with water fountains to run around in was a huge hit,) Trentham Gardens and Monkey Forest, all of which are within easy driving distance.
