Stayed four nights (Sunday to Thursday) and luckily our stay coincided with the absolutely marvellous weather at the end of March.
Our room was in an annexe (room 3) ok but a bit on the small side and difficulties with the bathroom door. More anon.
Inn is well located with great walks locally (through Wolfsdale and on into Hartington through Biggin Dale) with great scenery and attractions all within a comfortable driving distance.
Breakfasts great and evening meals also good, although the conservatory dining room, whilst ok for breakfast isn't great for evening dining. Suggest that you pick a table in the bar and ask for it to be reserved.
Pro's: Good location. Food good + reasonably priced wines/ drinks. Staff very friendly.
Cons: Seems a bit disorganized (failed to attend to faulty bathroom door); some difficulty in achieving reservation of table in bar.
Overall stay was enjoyable and can recommend the Inn.

This is a decent place, well out the way and serves a decent meal. The food is good and the choice is varied, the fresh veg too hot to eat so it's from a Micro-wave. However charging £15.00 for a Chilean Rose is a bit excessive. The other reason we were not happy about was we arrived at about 7:45 there were 3 table occupied in the bar with the nice cosy fire and all the other tables had RESERVED on them. So we went into the Conservatory where there was only 2 tables available again there were 4 tables with RESERVED on them. Well we sat down and enjoyed the meal and the mediocre £15.00 Chilean Rose. What was puzzling was no one else came in to use the RESERVED tables. We finally finished our meal around 10:15 and had noticed that now the reserved tables were being setup for Breakfast for the next day. So we had been conned into sitting in the conservatory when we would have preferred the bar, just in case some of the staying guests came in for a meal.
Come on Mr Pub Manager whats your line on this? You can reply on this site.

Just returned from staying in the area. We'd never visited the area before so tried the local on our first night. It was so good, we didn't consider anywhere else the next night! Mother and daughter holidaying alone and we have sometimes experienced a bit of "anti-feeling" in rural locals but everyone here was welcoming, helpful and friendly. The food was to die for!

Just got back from staying 3 nights here and it was absolutely perfect. Spent all day walking and just sat by the log fire every night playing cards, drinking local beer and eating hearty pub grub. A few things they did not have on the menu as the season was not really in full swing so limiting for me as I do not eat meat so only had 2 choices at one point.

Breakfast was lovely, and as we were the only guests for the first 2 days it was like we had out own country inn all to ourselves. A few niggles were that as there were no other guests we only had 2 yogurts left out, no choice of juice and no grapefruit segments, whereas on Saturday as there were other guests there were 3 choices of juice, lots of yogurts and grapefruit segments.

Room (No.8) was comfortable, had a stream running behind it which we could hear at night, only a few niggles.... the nearest plug point did not enable me to sit at the dressing table and dry my hair as it was too far away, the bathroom had no heating so we had to open the door prior to showering to try and warm it up a little, and I wish I had known there was a hairdryer provided to save me bringing mine (no mention on the website).

None of the niggles above would put me off staying again as they were just minor observations. The Inn is gorgeous, the food excellent and large portions, the beer amazing (according to my other half) the location perfect for walking the Manifold Valley. Bus service was spot on, Hartington was also lovely, we stopped off and had a drink in another Inn we were going to stay in on the way back from a 10 mile walk and were glad we had not stayed there and had booked the Manifold instead.

Would love to go back for longer.......

Just came back from weekend at the Manifold Inn and we loved every minute of our stay.
The setting was beautiful, the room was clean and spacious with tv, hot shower, tea making facilities etc. Bed was both warm and comfortable and breakfast was excellent. Staff were all friendly and attentive and would definately recommend and stay there again. Thanks Jamie and Lisa.

We stay at The Manifold for a weekend with friends every year in late January. The beer's invariably good, especially the Hartington; the pub's always busy and inviting; you can get a decent evening meal and the freshly cooked full English is a great start to the day; the rooms in both outside blocks are reasonable enough for a couple of nights and it's great falling asleep to the music of the stream behind; but the reason we keep going back is location. Whether you like your terrain flat or hilly, field, road or former railway trail, the car can stay in the car park. There's a walk in every direction, a pub at the end of it and timeless scenery in between.

We're lucky to have The Manifold as our local, especially on nights when it snows as thickly as this! We went for a birthday meal with family in a small party of 6 and had a wonderful evening. The place (as always) is lovely inside and welcoming on a cold snowy night. The food was great (including a perfectly cooked rare steak, which not all pubs can manage!), very prompt once we ordered and the plates were lovely and hot keeping everthing warm and tasty! (Plus the staff on duty this evening were very friendly and attentive). Our relatives were renting a couple of rooms for an overnight stay and hopefully the accomodation will prove suitable. Looking forward to the next excuse for a celebration!
