“Friendly hotel in fantastic location”
Reviewed March 25, 2014

Spent a relaxed night in this traditional hotel in an attractive room overlooking the centre of Hartington. Dinner was very good and served in a cosy, candlelit room next to the bar. The bar itself had an open fire, a friendly atmosphere and seemed to be popular with both locals and visitors. Breakfast was also good (excellent eggs benedict!) and set us up nicely for a fantastic walk. The hotel is situated in a wonderfully scenic spot and is a perfect base for walkers.

Just been to the Charles Cotton Hotel for lunch. Mum on special diet and they accommodated her every need. Beautiful food and good service. Coal fire made us very welcome on a cold day. Thanks for all the help.

Booked a weeked at the Charles Cotton for my parents 50th wedding anniversary.
Just spoken to them and they could not speak highly enough about their weekend. Great hotel, great personal service and exquisite food.

We visited here on a weekday afternoon in March. The fire was roaring away giving a pleasant atmosphere. The bar man was friendly and recommended a local ale to my wife, I was driving. The price was reasonable and the beer, apparently very nice. We did not stay to eat but others were snacking and the food looked plentiful and good. Prices from the menu were upper of average. When next in the area we will probably give it a try for food.

Recently stayed at this hotel. The food was excellent although the portion sizes were rather large. The bar staff and the lady serving breakfast on our first morning were both fantastic nothing was to much trouble for them. Breakfast on our second morning was served by a gentleman who didn't seem to know what he wss doing. Delivered toast to the table but no butter by the time the butter finally arrived toast was cold. Unfortunately we did not experience the warm and friendly atmosphere people have mentioned previously. Sometimes felt we were in the way. Room was clean and tidy with a nice view over the village.

On our way North instead of hurtling up the motorway we took the scenic route and gave ourselves a special treat. The Sunday Stopover deal at this hotel was amazing value. It began with a delicious scone , cream and jam for afternoon tea.there was time to take a gentle stroll around this lovely village or a short walk along one of several trails which radiate out from its doorstep. We had room Five with an impressive view from the front of the hotel out across the square to the dales beyond.we then enjoyed a beautifully cooked three course dinner and after a good nights sleep an extensive and varied breakfast menu which was in itself memorable. All this was included in a bargain price, with excellent all round service. An fantastic bargain, highly recommended!

Room Tip: View to the front of the hotel memorable!

Lovely hotel with real character and a warm welcome. Food and service were excellent and it has good bar with local real ale and a good selection of wine. There are several walks to do from the hotel and it's well place to explore the peak district by car, bike or on foot. We had a great weekend and well definitely be looking to visit again.
