stayed for 2 nights in this room at lovely hartington, the hotel and service are both lovely, we had a great time, the room itself is large and gorgeous but would expect a little more touches for the price, eg, sparkling water and biscuits alongside wider choice of berverages, otherwise a lovely stay.

We stayed for a family get together and we are so glad we did. Set in the pretty village of Hartington and nestled in the heart of the Peak District this hotel is perfectly placed for walkers and tourists alike. The room we had overlooked the village and was tastefully decorated, comfortable and quiet. The only thing we would have liked would have been a stand up shower in the bathroom instead of a hand shower over the bath, however this is more of an observation rather than a criticism. The staff were really friendly and coped admirably even with the number of children in our party. Judy the Manager ensured she spoke to everyone in the party which was a lovely touch and made sure our stay was perfect. We ate in the restaurant and the food was superb and beautifully presented and I was surprised at how much there was. So the big question is would we go back...........absolutely and I'm already planning our next visit.

We went to this hotel for lunch following a walk with our two small dogs. We were given a warm welcome outside the hotel, and told we could take the dogs in too. The setees were fab and the food extremely well presented. It was delicious. All in all a very good experience, and we have already recommended this place on several occasions.

Stayed here for two nights in a room that faced the village, just lovely. Our room was very comfortable, very large cosy bed, bathroom was very small and shower smaller still! a bit like being in a telephone box, ha ha but it did the job. The staff were very friendly and attentive.
We ate in the restaurant, the food was very good.
Breakfast in the large dining room was very good too, plenty of choice.
Great location for a base to visit the peaks of Derbyshire.

Room Tip: A room at the front of the hotel for lovely views of the charming village.

Stayed one night and had an enjoyable stay. Arrived on a busy Sunday - weather was fine and walkers were out in force - but still found a parking space behind the hotel. Met by co owner Judy who booked us in and showed us to our room. We were staying in the stable block as we had our dog with us. Room was adequate and clean, but carpet appeared a little grubby, but after all it was a dog room. Bathroom clean and bed comfortable. However ceiling creaked a little when guests above moved about. Still we were not disturbed overnight. Position of hotel was perfect right on the central square and with village pond just round the corner. Locals very helpful and friendly as were all the hotel staff. Evening meal was in the bar by log/coal fire with dog by our side. Perfect particularly when the food was good as well. Breakfast was good with a fine choice. Enjoyed the stay and will return.

The hotel was okay, as was the food....But the service was questionable. We didnt get our rooms cleaned while we stayed there (Friday - Sunday)!! We were out all morning until 1.30, returned with the dogs to find the rooms had not been cleaned. When we left again an hour later with the dogs, we let the cleaner know the rooms were now free to be cleaned....She said she didnt have time now! Bar staff were friendly and helpful though.

We ran out of the toilet paper in the room....which lets be honest is a basic requirement of any hotel.

The bolier was in our room, so anytime anyone showered we had a noisy boiler banging away.

The area was lovely and great walks, the service just seemed a little too relaxed.

We are a group of walkers who have progressed from the YHA to staying in hotels. We are quite demanding having healthy appetites and expecting the service to cater for our individual requirements. This hotel provided first class accommodation.. The staff were very helpful and gave brilliant service. We all said we would love to go back and stay there again.
