“A WONDERFUL overnight stay”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

After walking 13 miles with friends we arrived at Bank top Farm to the warmest ever welcome. Log fire blazing in visitors lounge pot of tea provided, and later by a blazing fire in the dining room we ate the most delicious roast lamb dinner.Next morning the breakfast was just as good which set us up for another 10 miles walking.Every thing about this farm has an old world charm, with hosts attending to your every need, would HIGHLY recommend to anyone who appreciates a quality old fashioned service.

We had a one night stay this week and was disappointed to say the least. We arived at 4pm and the place was freezing. No heat on anywhere. We were shown the bedroom which looked like it had not seen a duster for months. All the furniture was old and very badly worn. We had asked for an evening meal (left 2 messages) but nothing was provided. Had a good meal at the Jug & Glass. When we got up in the morning, still no heating!! Went to look for the hairdrier and the owner who had been away the day before, did not know we were there!!. The day was saved by a really good breakfast. We usually ignore negative comments if they are a one off, but this needed a mention - sorry.

We had a lovely weekend stay at Bank Top Farm as a much needed escape from city living. Between our family we stayed in the whole house which felt like a real home from home. Jane and her family were excellent hosts who welcomed us with delicious homecooked meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Perfect farmhouse setting with locally sourced produce which I would highly recommend for a countryside break.

Read a review recently and called this morning. The warmest welcome and the fresh scones fresh from the Aga simply the best I have ever tasted. Extremely good value and worth the trip. Well off the beaten track. Will be back to try out the cooked food. Just lovely.

We were lucky to stay here for the weekend and wished we could have stayed longer. The farmhouse is very traditional and tranquil and a wonderful change from the hussle and bustle of a city or town.
The hosts were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The breakfasts were fantastic and set us up well for the day. We had an evening meal there which was also wonderful as we had no need to go elsewhere that evening. Cream teas are a must, the homemade jam added an extra touch and really finished a fantastic walk around the valley.
Will defiantly be returning soon.
Good value for money.

We stayed for one night and found the house to be very special in its own right.
400 year old farm house aptly modernised were it counts (bath rooms televisions etc). In combination with the rough surrounding nature it makes you think youve gone back in time the silence was excellent.

The room we stayed in was huge and dark because of the dark coloured wall paper and the small room. Bath room en suite was down three steps and very comfortable
(electrical showers).

The bed was huge but the matras has seen better times (but we slept very well!).

When we arrived the landlady provided us with tea and cake on the small terrace were we sat for an hour and a halve, enyoing the views overthe unspoiled nature of the peak district. The large sitting room also available was ftted with large digital TV and DVD with over 100 dvd titles available.

The breakfast was fine and suited to our dietary wishes ("don't you wory, I take care of you!")

Yet another wonderful experience of English B&B being so much nicer than hotels when on holidays!

The house and surroundings can be seen on Google streetview (go up from hartington towards Pilsbury but not all the way) although much of the pleasantness is inside the house and notoutside.

Stayed 2 nights in early May 2011. What a great area to stay in. 2 great pubs in walking distance of the B&B. Take a torch for the walk home. Our room was large with lots of old fashioned furniture. En-suite was fine with a modern shower. very enjoyable breakfasts with fresh fruit and a good cooked breakfast. Jane was very welcoming and suggested some beautiful walks in the area. If you like a traditional farmhouse break this is for you.
