“Good food, good atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 26, 2010

This is a very popular spot and reservations are a must at weekends. My partner and I had chicken breast in a stilton sauce and lambs liver on a bed of mash with a bacon and mushroom sauce. Both cooked extremely well and very tasty. We asked for the dessert menu but were then ignored for twenty minutes which I found particularly annoying so we just paid and went into the bar. Staff friendly and courteous. Two real ales served but not particularly well. Prices reasonable. Real fire in the bar is very welcoming and I would imagine that in winter it would be a Godsend. Worth a visit for the local food.

“A Very Friendly,Comfortable and Homely Pub”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2010

Yet again we visited this pub on 19th July 2010, it is a beautiful run through the Derbyshire Countryside via Ashbourne from Derby (33 miles) but well worth the effort.
Rain or Shine the Devonshire is always busy.......there's no need to book a table as there is plenty of room both indoors and out.......with a lovely beer garden at the back of the pub.The menu is varied whether you want just a snack or a sandwich or a full 3 course meal from ciabatta's with fries,or jackets with salad to Venison Casserole with side plates of mashed swede, red cabbage infused with fried onion you will find all items on the menu are Excellent! For a special treat try some of the puddings they are second to none The Beers are kept beautiful and are priced extremely competitively, you always get a lovely greeting from the owner and staff, the pub itself is a low beamed place with a roaring open fire in the winter,we noticed it attracts people from all walks of life from Hikers, locals to tourists but they all get the same friendly welcome!!! Across the village by the Duck Pond you will find an old cheese shop selling everything from the Gorgeous Dovedale Blue to Stinking Bishop!!! All in all Hartington is well worth a day out.

“Fantastic food and dog friendly in wonderful walking country”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2010

The Devonshire Arms is our favourite Peak District pub. David, Janice and the team will make you very welcome. A cosy lounge, dining room and bar for wet weather. A beer garden at the back or tables overlooking the village green when the sun shines. They have just won an award for their food which is extremely good, locally sourced, freshly cooked and well priced. Having just visited four times in a week and had eight different main course, every one was delicious. There is a main menu and usually 3 or 4 specials on offer. Your hardest choice will be whether to have a starter or leave room for pudding. Amazing Ginger pudding, great cheesecakes, pear and chocolate, fruit crumble - all home made. the cheeseboard is fantastic. If you visit at lunchtime do make time for a trip to the local cheese shop just opposite. There are fantastic walks in the area and your four footed friend is made very welcome in the garden or bar. Do book for weekend evenings. Food is served 6.30 - 8.30pm, lunchtimes and all day during summer weekends. Starters £4-6. Mains £9- 17. Pudding £4.75

“Good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2010

Located in the pleasant village of Hartington in Cheesedale. Has a decent beer garden at the back, benches and tables at the front. Does good quality food at reasonable prices. Would recommend the roast beef sandwiches with portion of chips for lunch.
Dogs seem to be very welcome in the bar.
