We arrived quite late in Hartington and our B&B suggested we go promptly to the Devonshire Arms. They were quite full but found somewhere for us to eat in a sort of annexe across from the bar itself. There seemed to be a few large parties there who were going to weddings the next day but the room was big enough to cope and the noise did not get too much as can happen in some venues in these circumstances. There was a good menu and we enjoyed our meals. There were some particularly tempting puddings. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable and we had a good, relaxing and enjoiyable meal.

Stopped off for a quick bite in beesley. Restaurant full but we were told we could get table in 15 mins. Food was great although we only had soup and an omelette as we were dining out that night.
Staff were lovely and extremely helpful. Place was buzzing at Sunday lunch and had great atmosphere. Definitely worth another visit at a more leisurely pce.

Positives - very pleasant and accommodating landlord. The greeting that was given by the landlord was a genuine warm welcome - thank you. Waitress service was also very good and very attentive, the amount of attention that we were given was just right. The food received was very warm, and our family of 4 all enjoyed our meals very much. We had burger x 2, scampi and steak. Also beautiful setting.

Negatives - we felt that the food was a little overpriced for what is in effect "bar food". This is not said disrespectfully because the food was lovely and we did enjoy it, however, over our visit to the peak district we ate in several similar establishments and ate similar food to a similar standard but did pay less in other establishments.

General - our daughter really enjoyed her burger but did say she would have liked the option of also having bacon with the cheese on top of the burger. Our other daughter ordered her steak rare and it came medium/well. We did not say anything on the night re the steak as we had just had a long journey from Cumbria to the peaks which took 7 hours! and we just wanted to eat and go to bed. I would definitely eat here again and would recommend.
