Informal, welcoming landlord with village pub style ambiance in the center of a very pretty village location. The food is good quality although relatively expensive with a choice good value wines. Popular at peak time and holidays periods so book ahead as main restaurant area is not that big - great location to start and finish walks.

We have visited Hartington many times and always CHOOSE to eat at The Devonshire . . . . and have the occasional drink, too.
It's your typical 'olde worlde' inn with a lovely garden at the rear and outdoor seating at the front.
The landlord is polite, welcoming and makes you feel like a valued customer even when it's busy.
The staff are attentive and helpful and the atmosphere is friendly and warm with locals as well as visitors.
The food is freshly-prepared and excellent and, over the years, has been consistently good.
There's good beer on tap and the landlord knows his beers and offers a good selection of wines.
We often stay at a lovely B&B for two nights here in Hartington and will always choose to eat at The Devonshire even though we have sampled the food elsewhere.
I would recommend booking a table to avoid disappointment as word travels fast!

The pub was cosy and geared for walkers so you didn't have to dress up. The food was excellent value and quality.

First visited in Feb 2014 and we thought it was do friendly and the good so tasty we came back again. Landlord is great, welcomed us and our dog (dogs allowed in the bar) - and we enjoyed our second tasty meal at this establishment in the beautiful village of Hartington.
