We arrived soaked with a party of 9 at lunchtime to find this welcoming pub. We were allowed to hand wet coats on hooks, took our muddy shoes off, sat near the real fire and ordered from the selection of real ale and extensive menu. I had the steak and ale pie with a large puff pastry crust, chips, and plenty of veg. Polished this off with Bakewell tart and custard. The menu selection is excellent, food did not take too long even though quite busy, staff very accommodating. Food was excellent pub grub standard. Beer was good too. Probably best to reserve a table if at peak times. Ideal for walkers especially if wet. 2 course meal including beer £18.

Arrived early evening and asked if it was possible to come in with a wheelchair - we were taking my mum out for her 92nd birthday. This lovely owner couldn't have been more helpful, gave me a guided tour of the bar and restaurant, pointing out possible problems for a wheelchair. He entertained my mum perfectly at no extra charge, made sure we had a comfortable seat in the bar and took us to the restaurant for our evening meal! A perfect host! Once in the restaurant we were in the care of the gentleman's wife who was equally warm and helpful despite being very busy with large parties of diners. The food and drinks were as good as the owners and staff.

My partner and I (along with our recently departed doggie) have been eating at The Devonshire Arms for years. The pub is a credit to the hosts. Gammon egg and chips is truly superb and the fire, atmosphere and general quality of the place is really lovely.
Highly recommend
