“Good Food, Good Beer, and so relaxing.”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

This pub is just the sort of local you dream of. Living in Derby, this is the sort of pub that as soon as you walk in you feel on holiday. Nice mix of locals and visitors, and also nice mix of people eating drinkers. All serves up a tasty atmosphere, as well as excellent pub grub and beer. Heartily recommend the Ploughmans lunch. Proper ham, and lovely cheeses from the local cheese shop which is also a must to visit when in Hartington. Ideal in winter fora hearty meal after one of the many local beautiful walks. Recommended.

“Really very good”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

We called on a busy Saturday evening when the pub looked very busy. We were warmly greeted and offered a table in the "dining room".
The dining room is a lovely room just beside the bar and is very pretty and cosy (it'd make the perfect venue for a small wedding reception).
The service was above and beyond, and the food excellent.
Our waitress was friendly and very helpful with our slightly grumpy teenager who can be a difficult eater ... offering menu flexibility that many restaurants should observe.
We will definitely go back, and I'd definitely recommend it.

“A definite gem, would recommend!”
Reviewed August 17, 2012

We found this place by luck, while staying briefly in Hartington. Using Tripadvisor we intended to visit a different pub, but as we arrived late, decided to give the local a go. The pub was busy and we thought we were out of luck, however the landlord enthusiastically offered to check if a table would soon be free and in minutes we were sat at a table in the bar.
The pub had the good atmosphere of a traditional pub, with both locals and visiting trade and a landlord who took an interest in his customers. The food was excellent with a range which suited everyone in our family, from teenagers(one of the best burgers my 15 year old said he'd ever had!) to adults, my lamb shank melted in the mouth. Yes it was a little more than we originally budgeted, but the atmosphere, service and quality of the food was definitely worth it.

We were only staying 2 nights in the village, worried we would not get a table again on the 2nd night, my husband popped in earlier in the day, the landlord recognised him and happily reserved the same table for us. Our experience the next night was every bit as good as the 1st, with my husband adding that the pub served some of the best beer that he had tried in ages and as a real ale enthusiast he has tried quite a few!
We would highly recommend this place to anyone and will definitely try to visit it again. We are puzzled by some of the less positive reviews and wonder if they have reviewed the correct Devonshire Arms in Derbyshire.

“Nice food”
Reviewed August 4, 2012

We ate here twice on a recent visit to the Peak District and enjoyed our meals both times. Prices start at around £11 and the menu had a great choice with plenty to choose from.

Our first evening was spent eating in the bar which had a lovely atmosphere and very friendly staff. After enjoying it so much we decided to return however we had to eat in the dining room which was not such a good experience. We felt very ignored by the waiting staff and after our plates were cleared, no one returned to offer us anything else and seemed to avoid eye contact completely so eventually we decided to sort out the bill ourselves at the bar and leave. A shame really as it spoilt our opinion of this place a little.

“Fabulous food, the best I've had in ages!”
Reviewed July 29, 2012

After having such a delicious meal I could not rate the Devonshire highly enough. I visited with my toddler daughter and my parents and all if us were exceptionally happy with both service and quality of our meals (great portion sizes too)! I visit a lot of restaurants and can safely say that's the best pub dinner I have had for a very long time. Can't wait to visit again!
