“not so ancient”
Review of Cleopatra's Gate

Cleopatra's Gate
Ranked #11 of 23 things to do in Tarsus

It has been renovated so the front and back of the gate are completely smooth. My guess for the major change is so it will not fall apart. However, due to this it has lost its historical charm.

Just an ancient city gate located in the middle of a busy round-about in Tarsus. Obviously the gate has damage, but a small part of its intricate details of carvings have survived. This gate is named Cleopatra because it’s believed it was the same gate she entered to meet Anthony in the city. But it is also known as St. Peters Gate because the probability is high that the Apostle frequently used this gate due to the proximity of where his house is speculated to be located within the city. The road has a center divider that has a statue a little far off to visit as well. Parking is limited along the road side, and there are some shops in the area, but I have not visited them myself. There is a kiosk information sign, but no cost or attendant.

This may not be the original site of the original gate but made it anyway maybe to attract visitors. But still good attraction for a very small place like Tarsus. I will go back there again maybe this December

It is a beautiful place to take photos with beautiful surrounding.

What i recommend is, there is a small cafe near it which is named Meyve Doktoru where you can drink very fresh juices of fresh fruits. They are all great.

This monument is nothing you should do a special trip to Tarsus for but if you are in the city it is a nice place to visit due to its history. It can be a little bit hard to find as their isn't any good signposts which leads you to the area. It's not located far from Saint Paul's well and church so a visit to all three places is a nice sightseeing.
