My husband and i have just stayed at this hotel june 23rd for a week. we had a lovely holiday and a wonderful stay. Location is good, rooms comfortable( we both slept like babies) the food was different but we tried many different things and loved it all. Don't understand why people moan about kids when thomson offer adult only holidays why then book a family resort hotel!!!!! Grounds around hotel were very well maintained, staff were helpful even when they were very busy. We have nothing to complain about and would highly recommend anyone to pay a visit. Thassos was like going back in time to old greece and we would love to return.

We stayed at this hotel as part of a package deal, landing the first weekend in May. The transfer from the airport to the hotel is quite long but the scenery is gorgeous.
We arrived at the hotel about 2pm and had been travelling since 2am that morning (driving to the airport for a 4am check-in). The check in process at the hotel was ok and we left our baggage in reception as its brough over to your room by one if the staff. Our room seened to be in the newest part of the hotel. It was a large room on the ground floor which overlooked a car park, not a great view but it was actually nice and quiet round this side of the complex. We cant complain about the room or the bathroom, very modern. The only thing that wasnt brilliant was that the mattress was SOLID. I suffer with a back condition and i ended up having to put pillows under my back!
The private beach is a shingle beach, with free sunbeds and we spent most mornings there because it was nice and quiet, unlike the pool area with screaming children. Like some comments on here, most of the children were from other European  countries and the parents didnt seem to care that they were running riot.
We upgraded to full board, and to be honest the food quality was what you'd expect from a buffet, a but hit and miss. Some of the choices were odd but in other cultures quite normal. The only time i really enjoyed the food was when they had the greek bbq. The Taverna was only open between midday and 5pm which made no sense, especially as we were entitled to 50% off. Dinner in the main restaurant wasnt served until around 7 so shutting the taverna before dinner time was odd.
The drinks were ok priced apart from the cocktails which were a bit over priced but im guessing this is where they make most of their money due to the food board options.
Near the end of our holiday, at around 3am, some guests decided it would be fun to set off the fire alarm, outside our room, which went off for around an hour! Not the hotels fault but its not something you'd expect to happen.
We only saw one evening of entertainment the whole week we were there which was a shame as we thought there would be more.
On a whole, the staff were polite to us the whole stay, the rep Anne was lovely and the hotel is very nice. The food could improve - as in the variety. We enjoyed our stay but probably wouldnt go back as it was more for families and older couples, and we're in our early 30's.

This Hotel was one of our better choices, The staff are all Great, from receptionists to the cleaners. Very clean ,all very professional. The food was amazing, we stayed full board, the breakfasts was buffet style, as was evening meal, the lunch was al la carte, choice of 5 courses. Potos is quiet but enough shops ,bars, and cafes to enjoy. Private beach with free beds and sun shades.

Room Tip: Rear of the Hotel, over looks the car park, but is shaded in the afternoons for when you have had en...

I stayed at the Alexandra Beach Thassos Spa resort in early June 2013. This is my fourth trip to Greece and this hotel and Thassos Island are my favourite so far. The hotel is a small resort hotel that is extremely well run. Although I did hear from others in my Group that some of the rooms were somewhat dated, mine was basic, but clean and huge with lots of wardrobe space. Not new, but not what I would call dated either. (300 series of rooms). The whole resort was well maintained, with its own beach and given the size of the hotel, there was never a need to fight for loungers either around the pool or at the beach. I stayed on a half board basis and thought the food in the main restaurant buffet was excellent, with lots of choice for a variety of tastes. The wine selection was also good, which was nice for such a small hotel. The beach was lovely, though pebbly rather than sandy and with lots of urchins, so swimming shoes were a must if entering from the beach side, rather than the jetty. The Taverna restaurant on the resort was a cut above and incredibly reasonable. I had several treatments at the spa, which I thought were good, although the use of an ostrich feather to tickle may face during the treatment did strike me as a bit odd. Other than that, the treatment - a body scrub followed by a massage and bath, were quite relaxing. The resort is also well placed to the nearby village of Potos, which is small but charming with all necessary amenities that you may need on holiday. There are also a number of bars, restaurants and tavernas along the beach front if want to leave the resort, which is barely a ten minute walk to the centre of Potos. Limenas, which is larger and a bit farther, is also an easy journey. I also found Thassos to be quite cheap in comparison to other Greek Islands that I visited. A grilled squid dinner in Limenas was 8 Euros, which is incredibly cheap. I would definitely go back to Thassos and I would also definitely stay at the Alexandra Beach resort again A very relaxing holiday thanks to the excellent service at the Alexandra

Lots of good things to say about Alexandra Beach. Loved the location (and the weather!), the facilities were great, the staff were all really friendly and helpful and our room was ideal. But I wouldn't go back. Two main reasons: noise (mostly from dozens of screeching kids) and food.

Main issue as I say was the large number of unsupervised - and therefore boisterous/ noisy/ poorly behaved - kids. For anyone who thinks I'm just talking about 'kids being kids' it was a bit more than that. Guests were from a variety of cultural backgrounds - as you would expect - but few of the parents seemed to care how much of a brat their kid was being: screaming, splashing, bumping, and squirting water at other guests around the pool were all ok. Fine if you're part of it: just not great if you're hoping for peace and relaxation.

The other 'noise' thing was the hotel's policy of playing music loudly enough and from so many different sources that you couldn't escape it. Ever. For example, the pool bar would be playing one set of music, the restaurant another, the beach bar another, the same for the taverna and the roof bar, and of course the entertainment stage for morning aqua-aerobics, afternoon yoga and evening entertainment. And all of it is played with enough volume that you can always hear it wherever you are - which means it's actually pretty loud near the speakers. I like music, including most of what the hotel was playing, but it would be nice to have had the choice of quiet sometimes.

On food, many others have commented but let's be clear - the ONLY reason you would eat at the hotel would be if the food was included in your holiday. The staff are great and the outdoor part of the restaurant has great views, but each meal is a buffet for a couple of hundred people and open for several hours at a time so I'm not sure they could easily make it better. I say each meal was a buffet, but lunch was 'á la carte' and somehow worse than the buffets. We went full board because the upgrade from half board was a nominal cost on special offer from Thomson, but I'm still not sure it was worth it. The 'choice' was never great and sometimes almost funny - for example one day you could have had a burger (no bun, sauce or garnish, just dry) with a 'mushroom risotto' or a white fish (no sauce, just dry), also with a 'mushroom risotto'. (We got one slice of mushroom between our two 'risottos' btw - it was just some dry rice!) Don't get me wrong, if what you want is a convenient way to pile 'safe to eat' food into your family, I'm sure it's fine. It's just really bland and I'm afraid even the worst food we had in Potos was tastier than the best food we had at the hotel - so we ended up abandoning the lunch and dinner included with our holiday and eating out quite a bit.

Bottom line: good for families with lots of kids; not for anyone else. Sorry.

We returned from The Alexandra Beach two days ago (23/06/13) after a very good holiday with Thomson.

We liked the hotel and our room. The hotel layout is very convenient and has been well designed to make the most of it's excellent location. You can even get a sea view from a main pool sunbed. There were plenty of sunbeds on the beach and there were always some available throughout the day. Everything is well maintained and clean. We found the hotel staff to be excellent, without exception.

The food got a bit boring after the first week even though we always avoid having a bit of everything every night, so as not to run out of fresh choices. Dinner and breakfast were to a reasonable standard. It was not as good quality as food, especially meat, which we bought away from the hotel. We received a full board upgrade for a nominal few pence. Lunches are not good and I would have been upset if I had paid for them. Severely overcooked tuna steak, tasteless dry white fish and a 'burger' that was a lump of tough tasteless meat, are a few examples. We stopped going to lunch after about 5 days. Remembering the saying 'there is no such thing as a free lunch' is not a comfort.

There is a taverna on the campsite, which shares the beach with The Alexandra. Sofia and her husband do an excellent job here. I had grilled fresh sardines, which were perfect and large 'whitebait', which were excellent. They buy fresh fish every day. The drinks here are great value as well. Half a litre of wine and half a litre of beer for around 8 euros. Well worth a visit for lunch, dinner or just a drink. We did them all.

We hired a car from Potos rentals, with full damage waiver, for 30 euros less than the Thomson price for 2 days. Very good and they have several bases around the island.

Beware the 'you can't take your bottle of wine from the restuarant to the bar or vice versa rule'. Apparently it's the tax mans' fault. I struggle to understand why the hotel or Thomson have not worked with the tax man to come up with a better working arrangement. Perhaps it has more to do with keeping a tight rein on staff?

A lovely green island, nice people and a good hotel made for a very enjoyable holiday.

Room Tip: A room facing in the direction of the sea avoids early strong sun and gets good late afternoon sun.

This hotel is perfectly located and the grounds and hotel are spotlessly clean. Staff are very friendly and food is excellent. The hotel has its own private beach but although there is some sand it is mainly shingle and quite rocky in the sea. Special shoes are advised if going into the sea. The island itself is very peaceful and it is possible to get around using the buses, although when we were there during June the timetable was limited. The ferry crossing was a nice start to the holiday.
