“A true 5 star experience - almost”
Reviewed October 7, 2010

From our arrival to departure we were treated with courtesy and welcomed warmly to the hotel. The room I occupied was large, airy and spotlessly clean. A complimentary bottle of wine, water and basket of fruit had been supplied as were bath robes and beach towels. Food was plentiful and very varied, no complaints at all on that score. Bar prices were very high but we expected it in light of the Greek economic problems. Pool are was lovely with plenty of sunbeds as was the beach. Because the hotel was about 15 minutes walk from the main road and public transport there was not a lot to do, but if you want peace, quiet and just lazing by the pool or beach then it's ideal. Not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties. Very little in the way of entertainment in the main bar during the evening and the pool area where the main entertainment was staged was via a lot of steps leading down to the pool, again not suitable if your are not nimble on your feet. Beach bar was closed the week we were there and all the sunbed cushions had been removed, naughty, but they were getting ready to close down for the winter! There are three or four Taverna's up the hill to the right as you leave the hotel and I particularly recommend the Aporovada which is the first Taverna and the Panorama which is just passed the mini market and also has a Taverna next to it. Enjoyed the holiday but probably would not return as we like to be nearer shops and enjoy entertainment in the evening. There are bungalows and villas in the grounds of the hotel and these did look very, very comfortable especially the ones with a private pool. Would not recommend this hotel for a family as it's more suited for couples and mature adults. Corfu town is a little gem, very Greek with fantastic shops and restaurants. Loved it!

Dear Guests,

My name is Stratos Mavralexakis and I am the General Manager of the Grecotel Eva Palace.
I enjoy reading guest reviews greatly, whether positive or negative. Thank you very much for your kind words describing your experience at our hotel and the service you received. As you can imagine your positive feedback is extremely satisfying and rewarding for our team of employees as well as for me personally!
With regards to the 'high' prices of the beverages and other extras you mention in your review, please allow me to comment on this briefly. Despite the fact that Greece is currently experiencing economic difficulties, Grecotel made a conscious decision to either maintain or decrease many of the product prices for 2010. Specifically, at the Eva Palace the prices of all the most popular beverages (alcoholic and non) were reduced by 20-25%, in relation to the prices of 2009.
Furthermore, in 2010 the Premium Plus package was also introduced. This is a specially designed, waiter-service 'premium all inclusive' option, which offers excellent value for money, whilst maintaining the 5 star quality and service you enjoyed so much here at the Eva Palace. As almost all beverages, meals and snacks are included at a very competitve supplementary price, the Premium Plus Package was extremely popular, even though it was the first year of operation at our hotel. As you enjoyed spending most of your time at the hotel, I would definitely recommend this for your next visit. Please don't hesitate to contact me personally, should you require any further information. I very much look forward to welcoming you back to the Eva Palace soon!
Thank you once again for choosing the Eva Palace and I am very pleased that you enjoyed your Corfiot Grecotel holiday experience!

Sincerely,

Mr. Stratos Mavralexakis

This is a very nice hotel and we were on the all inclusive package. Drinks are very expensive if you're not on the package and its not very near to many alternative bars or restaurants. Its a good hotel if you don't want to go anywhere, or you've hired a car. All the rooms seem to have a sea view. The pools are very nice but salt water so bring goggles. The beach is small and shaded and pebbley near the water. The hotel seemed quite understaffed as service at the bars was often very slow, but as you will probably not be in a rush then it didnt really bother me! The food was really nice but a very similar buffet every night so it did become quite repetitive, you can eat in the a la carte restaurant but there is a very limited choice and its around 60 euros so you wouldnt want to every night. All in all a very nice hotel with nice staff. Noticeably very clean.

We have just returned home after staying two weeks at this hotel. the location is lovely providing that like us you prefer tranquil beauty, rather than bustling nightlife etc. The hotel is extremely impressive looking and in most respects lives up to its looks, the hotel staff are very pleasant and go out of their way to make your holiday enjoyable, we would like to say a special thanks to guest relations Elena, she is absolutely brilliant and very genuine-one of the best!! The food unfortunately was a slight disappointment and certainly not up to the standard we have found in other Grecotels, especially regarding the hot food at breakfast-the choice being somewhat limited and also not really hot enough!
The pool area is very nice indeed, as is the beach, however there are a lot of steps to encounter to reach these areas and more extensive handrails would be a good safety aid. I don't think this hotel would be good for disabled people.
In conclusion we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and would recommend this hotel but if food is a prime consideration it may be better to pay the extra and stay at the nearby Grecotel Corfu imperial where the food is superb!

My girlfriend and I have just returned from a 2 week holiday at this hotel. My first comment would be that the location is superb and the staff are truly excellent as nothing appears to be a problem for them and they go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable.

Yes there is a problem with wasps in the outside dining area but this is only at breakfast time as at dinner they are not around, the problem here is that people would come back to their table laden with food on several plates and wonder why they were innundated by wasps at their table, the solution is to just bring back one plate and should you want additional courses of fruits and pastries then make a return trip to the buffet. We also found that the wasps prefer fruit juice compared to the complimentary bucks fizz at breakfast! By the way no one to our knowledge was stung whilst we were there.

On the topic of food we found the choice to be plentiful and varied and the quality was exceptional, dinner was a joy and the way they cook the meat dishes are really good.

We did find the rooms to be very plain and quite dull, magnolia throughout, perhaps a dash of colour in the room with some prints and a coloured bedspread may help as the rooms did not live up to a 5 star rating. Petty I know as you spend minimum time in your room but none the less a point worth making.

One thing that did annoy us immensley was the reserving of loungers by the pool and yes by that I do mean the Germans! I think the hotel need to address this matter. The hotel occupancy is about 25% UK 50% German and 25% other European nations. The pool area which is superb would be commandeered by 9am and you would sit there and watch as the people would eventually get to their loungers at 10 or 11. We even witnessed a couple who reserved their lounger at the pool and then came and did the same at the beach as they positioned their towels on sunbeds next to ours, we had a day on the beach and the said guests eventually came down to the beach at 3pm......out of order i am afraid.

If you are staying at this hotel I would reccomend the all inclusive package that has recently become available, it was an additional £50/day on the brochure price but well worth it as the drinks were very expensive, 11euros for a G&T ! I don't pay that in the west end of London! The quality of the drinks however were very good, named brands as well as a selection of cocktails and beer. We estimated we would have spent at least 100 euros a day on drinks should we have not opted for the all inclusive package.

Another reason for doing the all inclusive is the remote location of the hotel as there are a few tavernas in walking distance but nothing special, they do run a daily bus from the hotel to Corfu Town that leaves at 10am and returns at 2pm we thought this was good but disliked the 10 euro per person return charge as the capital is only 10 miles away!

One trip that we would reccomend was a day trip by hydro-foil to paxos, a beautifull unspoilt gem of an Island with 2 beautifull harbours about 45 minutes sailing time from Corfu harbour, we paid 37 euros each for the trip and had a wonderful day.

In summary we had a lovely holiday and if we went back again then we would do a 1 week stay for rest and relaxation as the flying time was only 2hrs 45mins.

Do not believe the Grecotel Corporations buzz marketers' reviews ignoring the wasp & hornets problem. There are tens of wasp nests deployed all over the hotel's facades as well as on the balconies (see photos I posted). The pool's showers are the only source of sweet water for these busy insects and as you sit on a restaurant sea view terrace they enjoy your meal. So, if you are really good at sunbathing while weaving the wasps away, or you have already bought bee-keeper's hats for your family Eva Palace is the right choice for you.

The hotel has indeed very good infrastructure - pools, comfy rooms, real seaviews, private beach, unfortunately another issue that spoils the impression is the staff. Except for the managers most of the staff are first timers to Corfu work & travell youngsters from all around CEE, no blame on them that they are still learning, but the blame is on the hotel's management that they put unseasoned stuff on the first line. The young stuff has the problem of poor language skills as well as they do not go beyond the standard script. I disagree with some comments that the staff is rude, they are just unable and unexperienced.

Summarising - if Grecotel Incorporated starts corrective actions now instead of buzzing reviews ignoring the problems in two years time it will be really great hotel. For now I give you 3 points and rather wouldn't recommend the hotel to my friends, except for my fellow apiarist, he will love it.

It was not our first holiday in Greece - Crete and Rhodes, these beautiful Greek islands we've seen a few years ago and we thought that nothing can be more attractive and amazing...But Corfu is a very special place. It is really unique concerning the beauty of its nature, softness of its climate and comfort conditions of living for the tourists. We were hesitating what hotel to choose - Corfu Imperial or Eva Palace. We chose Eva Palace finally and we were not dissapointed - it is smaller , cosy and children are not allowed there. Mostly couples stay in this hotel, so the only noise were the birds singing in the morning.
The hotel is situated on the flank of the hill and all the rooms are facing the sea. Our room was on the fifth floor of the main building with the incredible sea view. There is the glass wall between the room and the balkony so you can admire the sea all the time. A little bit inconvinient was the glass wall with a semitransparent curtain between the room and the bathroom...
The hotel personnel is very friendly everywhere and eager to do all the best for the guests of the hotel.
The meals was good with traditional Greek dishes every evening. Once a week there was the Italian evening with Italian specialities and music...Six days a week there was live music in the pool bar or in the lobby bar in the evening.
We stayed in Eva Palace for two weeks in the first half of September and the weather was very comfortable for us - not hot but very warm to swim and to bathe in the sun. The sea was calm all the time, so it was ideal for smimming. The beach was never overcrowded with quite a lot of people staying near the swimming pool.
To our mind it is the best place for a quiet family holiday and we hope to return to this hotel the next year.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here but would suggest 4 stars rather than 5. Lovely room with four poster bed and fantastic views. We were on the 1st floor in the main building and the views were good and we couldn't hear the entertainment or any noise from restaurant/bar. Food was good but rather repetitive as is usual with hotel buffets. Wasps were a bit annoying but eating inside was ok.
We had a hire car so were not confined to the hotel. Also hired a boat from the hotel beach and went to Agni where there are some lovely tavernas for lunch (recommend Taverna Nikolas).
We had an evening flight home and our request for a later check out time was readily agreed to without charge.
