Le Corbusier's architecture still impresses/confronts 60+ years on. We got there as a service started so was great to go in for a few minutes and experience the space with people and music. It was a warm, sunny day so sat up on the "pyramid" that overlooks the valley, mountains and the chapel and relaxed for a while.

Last week we visited the Notre-Dame du Haut, the unique church in Ronchamps. We took a guided tour, which started at10:30. The guide was a young guy from Lyon, who studied history and art-history, his English was perfect!! If you have a chance, ask for him! In a quiet and passionate way, he showed us the beauty of the chapel and the area and shared lots of very interesting details of the architect, the church and monastery. Highly recommended visit!!

This simple architectural marvel deserves a detour. The Chapel and its surroundings offer a unique visionary perspective of Le Corbusier's genius, while providing to its religious visitors a serene place of reflection and inner peace.

Spiritual and inspiring, perfectly suited to its surroundings and to its purpose. It honors the heritage of hundreds of years of pilgrimage to the site, and echoes the local farmhouse architecture of thick plaster walls and sloping roofs. But the modern architecture, creative motifs and symbolism make it unique among the world's buildings. I enjoy visiting landmarks of modern architecture, and this chapel is far and away my favorite. It just feels perfect. The visitor center and monastery by Renzo Piano are clever (I like the lemon trees growing indoors), but maybe a little too close to the chapel. The chapel would have even more impact if it could stand alone.
