I was sad to leave this place. The location is top notch, right on the beach with an amazing view of "the rock." The sound of the waves are amazing, and the surf village vibe is contagious. We arrived late at night, and our first impression of the hotel wasn't very good, since the shuttle driver was late and scared us to death we were going to be stranded at a very sketchy Tica bus station in San Salvador. He did come, 1/2 hour late, and then when we entered reception to check in, the younger girl behind the desk was so rude and unfriendly. No hello, Bienvenidos, nothing. Just asked for my name, how I'd be paying, or if I wanted to leave my passport could pay at check out, and threw me my key.

Luckily, the rest of our stay there we encountered very nice and helpful staff. The restaurant stayed open late that first night so we could have dinner. The food was excellent, and the whole time we stayed there the wait staff was wonderful, although a little slow at times, but we were in no hurry. And the drinks were very good and I thought incredibly reasonably priced for a hotel. The staff also arranged surf lessons for my fiance, which he thoroughly enjoyed.

We stayed in Suite 3, an ocean view room with Queen bed, a/c, TV, sitting area, mid-size fridge & freezer, and a two seat dining table set. Also a great balcony. Don't stay in these rooms if you are noise sensitive, however, since the D'roca hotel and bar is two doors down and when they have bands, you will hear it. Didn't bother us though as we were so tired every night slept right through it. The only issue we had with the room was they gave you a coffee pot, but no coffee or cups. Also the power went on and off a lot!

Conveniently, there's an ATM on the property by the lobby (and one more in town if you need it). Right across the way from the hotel is a great coffee shop call Dale! Dale! highly recommend its coffee and food. And we ate a great dinner at Las Bocanas (stuffed lobster for $15USD excellent) and a nice lunch at D'rocas. Also Jaguar bar is a fun place to hang-we bought a cheap bottle of red wine and brought it back to our room.

The 4 rating stems from a few small problems. One was the late shuttle (coming and going for us); rude front desk person; horrible horrible wifi - only place I could get it to work was in the lobby, otherwise, forget it; and the awning over the pool lounge chairs looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a while. Also the hotel has a bad habit of leaving tables uncleaned after guests are through eating. And for some reason, in the middle of high season/spring break, they were doing loud repairs near the pool area on the walk way and painting the building - not very relaxing at all. Do that kind of stuff on off season please hotel management.

I would still highly recommend this place as a good value w/ all the amenities you could want, close to all, and not too bad a price (paid $70 usd/night for our suite). Would go again.

Room Tip: Loved the beachside suites. #1 is on the end furthest away from D'rocas (#3 is closest to it).

We had stayed in a boutique hotel along the beach and felt that it was too expensive for what we were getting, so we downsized to Roca Sunzal and were pleased.

We found them because we walked along the beachfront and were looking for a place to rent surfboards in good condition. Some of the staff spoke English very well, the breakfast (included) was delicious, and the service was pretty good. The waiters kept an eye on my husband in the surf and remembered our names and made jokes that showed they remembered something we'd said earlier. They made us feel welcome. The deckchairs facing the beach are more comfortable than any others available on Playa Tunco and have the most amazing view of the sunset!

The room was clean and spacious. There is a free computer with internet to use, as well as free wifi all throughout the hotel grounds. We were very happy with our stay.

I have included a photo of the bus time table to help you make your way up to Santa Ana or any of the other local beaches. The "chicken buses" are simply old American school buses. They're cheap, reliable, and we found them safe to travel on. We used Tica Busses too (Central America's answer to Greyhound) but they were over air-conditioned and left at inconvenient times (3am + 5am).

The location is good here, and the area within Libertad is protected by Tourist Police. There's a very busy place on the corner near Roca Sunzal that washes all its salad in filtered water - so enjoy it to your appetite's content! The hotel is very conveniently located and I didn't notice any issues with noise in November - might have been a New Years celebration??

We made a last-minute stop in El Tunco and happened upon the Rocal Sunzal Hotel and Restuarant. We loved it!! The staff members were very helpful and most of them spoke English very well (unlike most other places in El Tunco). The prices at the restaurant were reasonable and our room was clean and comfortable. Fair warning--Like many parts of El Salvador, this hotel does not have hot water. Just a heads up for travelers that are accustomed to hot showers.
El Tunco is definitely a tourist spot and nights can be a little rowdy. If you're looking for a quiet beach getaway for families, this might not be the place for you (particularly over weekends).

We had planned to stay elsewhere but it didn't have availability and I'm glad it didn't. This was a spur of the moment trip for my husband and I and it turned out to be the best 2 relaxing days. The check in staff took the time to show us 3 rooms to see which would be best for our needs. All the rooms were clean and tidy. We enjoyed the beach the venues at surrounding bars and the food was delicious. Everyone was very friendly and pleasant. We definitely plan to return...

This hotel is pretty nice overall. The view from our room was beautiful. The food in the restaurant was good but it was overpriced for what it was. The beach was amazing. The safe in the room didn't work. We left the room locked to go swimming for an hour and somebody from the staff took money out of my wallet. This of course, stressed us out to the point that we didn't feel comfortable leaving anything of value in the room while we were gone. We also kept finding mice turds everywhere but we never actually saw any mice. We'll definitely be going someplace next time where we feel our belongings will be safer.
