Review of Daauw Home

Daauw Home
Ranked #5 of 14 Restaurants in Huay Xai
Cuisines: Asian
Description: We welcome you to enjoy our family atmosphere and relax around the campfire. Our Huay Xai restaurant is a place where you can take your time and experience authentic mountain people's traditions. Huay Xai Restaurant Opening hours: Traditional wood fire cooked mountain style meals, Laotian dishes and mountain style pizza's from our local handmade pizza oven every day from 5 PM till 11 PM. During the day the restaurant is open on request, except during Kajsiab workshops. Ask the Kitchen Team for details. All profits from the restaurant and homestay in Daauw Village go directly towards the Kajsiab Shelter (right next to the kitchen) where currently more than 30 people from the mountains live to learn before going back to their village. The mountain people are very proud of their skills and the food you will be enjoying is of unique standards, organic and fresh. This means you can take your time to enjoy the warm atmosphere at Daauw Home! Relax around the campfire, listen to stories and music and remember: Quality takes time. .

A feel good project, run by a local family. It was a comfortable rooftop location to have a beer and some tasty food and share stories with other travellers round the campfire. A lucky find in a small town with otherwise pretty basic options. The work they're doing at the project for hill tribe villagers is great, so you can eat and drink knowing you're helping a worthy cause at the same time too.

More a bar than a restaurant, but the food and drinks are good. Very laid back, on a rooftop left from the stairs that lead to the wat.

We got handed a flyer in the street for this place... It's on a small rooftop terrace just behind the main street, and the profits are used to fund a womens' empowerment project.
The menu is pretty limited (fish, chicken or vegetarian option) and takes a little while to come out, but the chicken that we had awesome, and the portions were huge.
Atmosphere was great, lots of other travellers sitting round a communal table, and we moved to sit by the campfire later, which was lovely...
