“Lovely Resort, Amazing People!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

My first trip to Cuba and it won't be my last! Everything exceeded my expectations. The resort was beautiful, beach was breath taking, even though the large waves knocked me out more than once! LOL I was extremely surprised by how good the food was, being that many people have said not to expect high quality, tasty food. The buffet had much to choose from, pasta bar, fish grill, meat grill, crepes bar, etc... the entertainment was funny, and the dancers were great! By far the greatest part was the people! So friendly, gracious and go out of their way for you. Be sure to tip them, they deserve it! I recomend this resort to everyone, and will definetly be back in the near future:)

The hotel was a great place to relax. The people were very nice. The rooms were comfortable and the food was good at this hotel (one of the best that I have had in Cuba). There is a pool restaurant that makes good pizza and the beach buffet features a delicious outdoor grill during lunch. Some of the best grilled chicken that I have had. anywhere.
We were there for the re-opening of the main pool with the swim up bar. The other pool is now closed for repairs. This means that the pool is quite busy, however only after lunch time when people come back from the "off resort" beaches.
The only negative about this hotel is that the beach is very rough and usually there was a red or yellow flag up for swimming. As a result, the hotels in the area provide transportation to and from other beaches on the island. The issue with this is that obviously you have time restrictions for the bus/ferry and you do not have access to free food/drinks as you will be off the resort grounds. You also have to wait in line during boarding times. Although, the transportation service is free and it was fun to take a boat and see the island. The beaches were also very beautiful

This was a resort that needed to have some money spent on the grounds. The staff was the best part, they were always friendly and smiling (especially friendly was my new friend Anibal, who works in entertainment). The beach is one of the most beautiful i've walked on, very quiet atmosphere, just the waves of the ocean (beautiful). If you are looking for night life this is not somewhere you should be going. If its to relax and eat good food then this is the place for you. One last thing they a section for nude sunbathing!

Anibal, I will be sending you a small box of things you might need, Thanks for being who you are, Hope you are well, Laurie

This is my first time to Cayo Largo (I have been to Mexico for 13 vacations) but it will hopefully not be my last. I paid a bit more for an oceanview room, which was worth it. The room was very large and very quiet. The bathroom needed some work; there was only a trickle of water pressure for showering on two days. The selection of food was okay, as was the nightly entertainment. But that's not what left a lasting impression; the beach was better than any other beach that I have experienced in Dominican, Mexico, Spain, Italy, Croatia or Greece. The staff was also very friendly. The only down side is that there are no direct flights from Calgary:(

Room Tip: Only top floor rooms have king size beds. The west block is furthest from the pool and the quietest...

> The Sol resort is situated on a very nice beach that can be walked or jogged for miles. Therefore, if you put in your personal ad, enjoys long walks on the beach, this is indeed the place. The hotel beach has fairly rough water due to a steep grade change as the waves come ashore, thus at times it may not be ideal for unattended small children or individuals that want to swim or snorkel. There is another beach situated on the island that is calm and breathtaking, this is at a distance from the hotel, best seen using Google earth satellite images. (prior to arriving).

>The building/complex layout of the Sol runs horizontal to the ocean, unlike the other area resorts which are more vertical, thus the availability of ocean view rooms at the Sol is far greater. Also, the beach has select nude sections were individual's or couples can let it all hang out! ..... so don't forget to get your Brazilian :)

> The rooms and food met expectations, the air conditioning functioned very well, the second floor ocean view rooms have 20 foot ceilings and boast spectacular ocean views. When it rained heavily the roof perimeter leaked a little bit in some places, so observe (take note of) the water stains prior to placing your goods and suitcases. The leak into the bath tub was not a bother, however the leak above the suitcase table was indeed a problem. Some sliding balcony doors were recently replaced, thus it's a good idea to check your balcony lock system to ensure that you can't get locked out on the balcony, its a difficult climb down the outside of the building late a night after a few drinks. :)

> This resort needs to enclose the main buffet area, either with screens or a fully enclosed envelope system, to match the other resorts in the area. The food was good, however depending on your bug appealing attraction, the flies and biting insects may spoil your dinning experience very quickly. However, you could think ahead and bring bug repellants, smoke canisters, plenty of after-bite and perhaps a pair of long pants. i.e. more of a nuisance than an extreme problem.

> At the time of the visit the second walk-up bar pool was out of service for major repairs, I expect that it will be back in service prior to the next travel peak.

> Overall, a great vacation spot at a good price. Little things like the following made for a happy experience; minutes form the airport, fastest check-in (ever), clean room, low noise levels, bottled water was fairly priced, easy access to beach towels (no card system), no charge for the safe, the requested room was ready, and above all they had a full bottle of water in the room.

> Not sure of the cat population, but the Cubans must have them their for a purpose maybe rodent or crab control? thus, perhaps they should explain this a bit better, other than the sign that simply states do not feed the cats? (it's hard not to do) as they are all very friendly, and seem well adapted to a resort amenities.

> Overall, this resort is recommended as a good stay.

The rooms are a bit dated and beds not comfy at all, but this resort makes up for it with excellent, freindly staff, very clean facilities pool and eating. The beach is lovley and the staff is so frendly they make you feel very at home. The food is pretty good at the snack bar and buffet. The second pool was being redone while we were they - but it looked amazing. There are lots of cats and kittens around - which I enjoyed and they were all freindly but not too bothersome at the buffet. The ping pong table and activeties were pretty good. They could work on more advertising of activities. The island is great and the main beach away from the hotel is definatly where its at. If you have to choose between here and Varadero - definetly pick here if your looking for a relaxing nice time at the beach.

Room Tip: Our only regret is that we did not ask for an ocean room- Its probably worth it!

I Just came back on May 24th from this resort SOL CAYO LARGO,
The site and the beach in front are beautiful , also Playa Paraiso and Sirenas.
The hotel is not new but many effort are done to keep it very clean and nice.
The food and beverage is good for the ressource of the island, but more taste and spices may help. The service is very good and the people working on this place are so nice, they are the best point of this hotel.
The room we received was spacious, bright color, very clean and bathroom was perfect, air conditionning was doing very well the job.

The bemol is on the night entertainement, it is calm, more music and light around the pergola can be a good idea before the night show of 22h00.

The a la carte restaurants are doing well to offer quality and the F&B MANAGER at that time PACO is very present on supervising all that.

The repeat business of this hotel is hight and the customers are all mixed, but more adults.
If you go with a baby to rest and enjoy you will be treat like a princess...

I Highly recommending this hotel.
