“clean and spacious rooms”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2009

We were delighted to find we had such spacious accomodation. It was lovely and clean, although perhaps a little 80's. I guess the owners will get around to refursbishing when they have been there a little longer. We had a huge bedroom and the children did too, a large living area with a great little kitchen. We had doors opening onto a grassy area with a little table and chairs outside. The owners were very welcoming and so helpful. They both seemed very happy to offer whatever assistance was needed to enjoy our stay. They offered us their BBQ to use, which was nice and easy. Unfortunately the pool was not heated, which was disappointing as the children were desperate to swim - it was just too cold to get in.
The laundry area was very useful too, we managed to wash and iron our clothes before the next leg of our journey.
It was very relaxing and just a short drive from the National Park - Abel Tasman.
There is also a supermarket just around the corner which was convenient for self catering.

Great room, with all the facilities you could want, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Nice balcony overlooking the pool and garden for have that pre-dinner glass of wine. Alan & Lisa (new owners) are very friendly and helpful.

Location is close to town, easy to walk to several good eating places, try the Gothic restaurant in the old church - a different eating experience and very good. Being a little off the main road means that the motel is really quiet.

The location is perfect for walking in the Abel Tasman National Park, only about a 15 minute drive to where most of the walking/boat trips start.

Very quiet but central location with beautifully maintained gardens. The owners were always available to help. The room was large and extremely comfortable and clean. It opened out onto the garden and you could sit outside (if it is not too hot). The kitchen was well fitted and the laundry had two washing machines with the use of an outside line.

The town of Motueka had everything you could ask for in small town. The New World supermarket was on the main road in front of the motel and could be reached from the next road towards town from the motel.

We visited the Abel Tasman park which was about 10km away and we had three very sunny hot days.

The only drawback to the area is the Tanaka hill which is a very long pull

We stayed here for 3 nights in February, and only booked a day or two beforehand so were unable to get a studio room. The owners discounted the rate on the 2 bedroom unit as there were only 2 of us so we ended up paying $175 a night - quite a bit more than the $95 quoted by a previous reviewer, but still good value for the spacious apartment. As already mentioned the gardens are lovely and well looked after. Each room has a table and chairs outside to sit & enjoy them. The rooms are definitely rather dated, after staying in some ultra-modern places while touring in NZ, but are clean and comfortable. We had 2 good days out while staying there - one to the Abel Tasman park, and the other to Cape Farewell - the beaches on the ocean side are absolutely amazing - don't miss Wharakiki Beach.

I guess most people’s reason for visiting the area is to visit Abel Tasman Nat. Park.
The main two choices of areas to stay are Motueka – a mid-size working ( fruit growing ) town and Kaiteriteri, a very pretty, very small town with a lovely beach, 15 mins drive further North, where the water taxis needed for day exploration of the Nat. Park start.
We chose Motueka, since it would have much more extensive backup services ( Supermarkets, Restaurants etc ) than Kaiteriteri and the Equestrian Lodge motel, after reading the reviews here. We were delighted with our choice.

We fully endorse everything written in the other articles here about the motel.
Whilst within easy walking distance of the shops and supermarket, it is set in a residential area and in the large, tranquil garden you would think you were miles from any major road and shops etc. The swimming pool was the best we have experienced in a motel, lovely BBQ area with picnic tables and very nice rooms with patios overlooking the large lawn area. Our hosts were very helpful.

We were blessed with good weather and the day out at Abel Tasman Nat. park, using the Abel Tasmen Sea Shuttle service was superb. We also enjoyed on another day the very scenic drive to Golden Bay ( a one hours drive to Takaka )

If visiting the area again, we would certainly stay there.

We happened upon Equestrian Lodge Motel and stayed for 4 nights. Alan and Kim are perfect hosts, running a professional operation at the same time as being considerate and helpful. The grounds are very pretty and the swimming pool welcoming after a long day exploring. In comparison with many motels within the region which offer only car-parking, Equestrian Lodge has beautiful gardens, grassed areas and a BBQ area.
The accommodation - we had a two bedded suite - was spacious and clean and looked out over the garden. In fact we had one night in the 3 bedroomed apartment and this was very well appointed too.
Motueka is in a great position for taking trips into the Abel Tasmin Park, driving to explore Nelson and for visiting a winery. There are some easily accessible and excellent restaurants and it is in walking distance to a supermarket.
We would recommend this accommodation to you.

We had a really great time at the Equestrian Lodge. The rooms were ideal and very clean with sheets being changed on a regular basis. The owners personally supervised the cleaning.
The grounds are great to either relax in or play games with the children. The pool is very well maintained as is the barbeque.
Thorpes Bush is a lovely nature reserve which is next door (1 minute away !) to the Lodge and how lovely it is to be woken in the morning to the sounds of bellbirds amongst other species. A walk through Thorpes Bush before breakfast was a favourite.
The lodge is literally two minutes walk from the main centre but it is is very quiet and relaxing.

The owners are a lovely couple and only too willing to help make your stay as enjoyable as possible and nothing is too much trouble.

This is the third time we have stayed and we are already planning to stay in 2010.
Highly recommended.
