Description: Winner of Wild Tomato magazine's best regional rural restaurant 2010 and recommended by both North and South and Cuisine magazines, Riverside Cafe is an integral part of the historic Riverside Community (est.1941). We serve fantastic fair-trade coffee, and a delicious selection of home made cakes, slices and our amazing brioche, with gluten free options always on offer. Our seasonal menu includes Tasman specialities, wild meats, great vegetarian options and lots of produce from the extensive Riverside gardens, plus superb wines from the plethora of vineyards in the Moutere area. You can dine al fresco in our lovely garden or on our sheltered deck area, or grab a table inside the historic cafe (built 1860) and be inspired by the local art which adorns the walls! A unique and wonderful cafe, offering a very warm welcome. We are open 7 days a week from 9.30 To 4.30Pm, plus open for dinner on Saturdays evenings. We will open both Fridays and Saturday evenings from Dec, and throughout summer: please call to check our evening opening dates to avoid disappointment!

“Delicious food”
Reviewed April 13, 2013

Welcoming restaurant, very pleasant waitresses and delicious and innovative food! You can taste the freshness and goodness in every bite and the flavors are just amazing. We had lamb shank and seafood curry- both delicious and very flavorful. Reservations recommended. Open for dinner only Fri and Sat, rest of the days they serve only breakfast and lunch.

“Country surprise”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

Found this lovely cafe set in gardens with an old house as cafe . Lovely and quiet and relaxing. Which serves healthy food which is beautifully presented and very tasty at an acceptable price . We often visit here with our visitors as a special place to take them. I would highly recommend a visit here.

“Yummy Food in a lovely peaceful setting”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

Riverside Cafe is off the beaten track, in the Moutere Hills area, we only went there because we were taken there by a local. The produce used is all grown onsite and is fresh and delicious. Our meals (lunch) were all really yummy and we had them on the verandah which was shaded and peaceful. There is a kids playground but it is situated away from the main dining areas so you don't want to you don't have to haer the noise of children .

“Amazing food in a very relaxing setting”
Reviewed March 16, 2013

A great restaurant off the beaten path. Definitely worth every penny! It was our last night on the South Island and this was the perfect dinner to top it off. I had the lamb shank and my boyfriend had the venison dinner. Both were amazing! Fresh, locally grown ingredients were used and the garden setting was relaxed and intimate. The prices were good for what you get. The main courses were from 20 to 30 bucks and there were many vegetarian options. My only criticism would be the dessert which was dissappointing. The brownie was too dry and the strawberry ice cream had a freezer taste to it.

Thank you for taking the time to give us a review. We really value your feedback!
Also thank you for coming to us for dinner on your last night in the South Island! We are glad to hear you enjoyed it and found your visit tasty and worthwhile.
We'd like to apologise for your dessert though, we are sorry it was a disappointment after your lovely meals. And thank you for bringing this to our attention; it got us looking at how we can improve our desserts, especially the brownie. We are changing our recipe to a new (moister) version, and checking our ice cream quality with more care.

Thank you again for your review.
Safe travels,
The Riverside Team
