Tidy and clean, gorgeous views and sunset of the Hokianga. Place for total relaxation as there is nothing else close by.

I arrived in Omapere just before sunset after driving over from Paihia. The hotel sits right on the beach. I got a beach front room. It was nicely decorated, had an amazing view out over the beach and mountains, and a fabulous shower. The hotel restaurant is really nice, with a great breakfast. I wish I had longer to stay at this hotel. Oh, and the sunset was gorgeous!

We stayed here for only one night as part of our tour of New Zealand. I agree it was more like a motel than a hotel, but having said that, it was very comfortable and the staff and service were excellent. Our room was practically on the beach and sitting on the patio was so relaxing with the gentle sound of the waves lapping on the beach. Could have stayed there for longer if possible, just to chill out.

Think we may have with the same tour company as a previous reviewer, however, we really enjoyed our hangi experience, although think it could have been the location (right by the beach), the fantastic weather with a beautiful sunset and the company of our fellow travellers that made it so special.

Also agree about the lack of shelves, especially in the bathroom where there was nowhere to put the toilet bag.

Looking at a map of NZ one may gain the impression this hotel is at a last outpost. True, there is not a great deal to enthuse about after exiting the hotel gate. Many NZ'ers ask "Omapere? Where's that"? Nevertheless, this hotel is worth at least a one-night stay for it is tops (and dare I say it) despite where it is. Having stayed two nights, spouse and I believe it is the staff who make the place. More helpful and pleasant staff would be rare. A main restaurant and a bistro provide the necessities. We ate in the bistro only so cannot comment on the main room. The bistro provides an excellent menu selection which is not low cost but where per plate quantity more than matches the charge. We wondered whether the calculated per cover food cost had gone out the window when the kitchen scales failed.
Our room was at ground floor where we could walk out to the grass and on to the waters-edge. Only drawback in the room was the designer had clearly never heard of drawers for clothing and bits-and-bobs one carries in a suitcase. More than sufficient wardrobe space but not a shelf or drawer in sight. The reasoning may be that few guests stay more than one night so they can live from a suitcase. That said, we thoroughly enjoyed our two-night stay, the dining and extend thanks to the excellent staff. The two waitresses at breakfast on 14/3/10 deserve medals for dealing with the 25 plus Trust diners when added to other hotel guests for they both worked like crazy - and I hope management saw them in action and made each an acknowledgment. Great stuff.
The hotel's waterside position with extraordinanry staff services make this a must.

During my two day stay for a recent celebrity wedding, I cannot speak highly enough on the hospitality, and professionalism of ALL the staff at this hotel. The meals were excellent, The cleanliness of the units, and the area as a whole was great, and the bar staff were absolutely awesome. I reflected on the aforementioned during a speech I made at the ceremony I attended, and judging by the response from all the guests present, they echoed my thoughts, so I hereby write these comments on their behalf as well. Thank you.

We had been recommended Copthorne by a NZ friend, and she said Omapere is only worth going to if you stay at Copthorne. And I agree. Not much goes on here, but staying at Copthorne and being able to look out over your own beach and the water is just lovely. A beautiful place to relax. Don't miss the sandboarding by taking the ferry across!
Copthorne was slightly expensive (for me anyway), but definitely the pick of the town.

We stayed here for one night as part of a tour of NZ. We were a large group and the hotel coped well with 46 people. The hotel is a major employer within the community.

This is a small community hotel with one of the most beautiful locations I have seen. The rooms were basic but spotlessly clean. The staff were helpful and friendly and the service was very good. From our observations they all work together at what needs to be done to make the hotel succeed. The restaurant staff worked hard and had laid on a Hangi feast for our group, and whilst not overly impressed with this it was obvious that a lot of time and effort had gone in to its preparation. Breakfast the next morning was much better.

We had one of the newer rooms which overlooked the Bay and whilst we thought it to be more motel style it contained everything needed for a nights stay. The views from the room were superb.

Access to the beach is from the hotel and late evening/early morning strolls along the beach gave us some magnificent views of the bay and surrounding area.
