What an incredible spot. Loved the lawn! Fantastic service, really friendly and helpful, especially restaurant staff. Food is seriously good - quality, portion size & flavours rival most Auckland restaurants for a whole lot less. Beds not the most comfortable but have slept in worse in more luxurious hotels. Decor a little dated in the two bedroom suites with kitchen but comfortable and clean - the cleaners really took time and care. Wine on the deck in the early evening sun gazing at the view was fabulous. Opononi Fish & Chip shop and Boatshed Cafe in nearby Rawene were the other food highlights. Visit to Tane Mahuta a must too. Perfect spot for kids, look forward to going back when the pool heats up!

Room Tip: Waterfront rooms are a must

The standout features here are the location and the staff. The hotel is right on the waterfront in Omapere looking across to the Hokianga harbour heads with their huge dunes. You couldn't ask for anywhere more beautiful - even in a country with as many jaw dropping views as NZ. The staff were excellent, efficient and friendly, almost all local maori which adds to the hotel's special flavour. We were upgraded to one of their newer rooms which though a bit motel like and characterless was nevertheless pleasant, clean and well furnished, with a deck and a great view to the harbour through a wonderful, wind swept old pohutukawa tree. Breakfast and dinner were both good. We'd happily return.
