I did the fully guided day tour to Cape Reinga ... ... it's a long day.... picked up around 7:20am and arriving back around 6:00pm; covering about 500k's... ...but well worth it and a trip I would highly recommend.
If you're in the Northlands of NZ this activity is a must do. It's a great way to see it all; visit a Kauri forest and other points of interest plus do a little sand boarding at the dunes, drive along 90 mile beach and, of course, visit the Cape. All this with a full commentary by a knowledgeable and experienced guide/driver.
It's a much more relaxing and informative way to take it all in than self driving.
So add it to your itinerary, book it in and enjoy; you won't regret it.

Went on a Fullers Great Days out trip to Cape Reinga and 90 mile beach. It was a very full and long day from Paihia but well worth it. The 90 mile beach experience was surreal. Never have I been in a coach driving along the beach, just fabulous. We also visited the huge sand dunes and could experience body boarding down the dunes. I didn’t do it but those that did were having terrific fun. Then the finale was Cape Reinga and the light house. The sun came out for us and it was just stunning. To be at the tip of the North Island was fantastic and I couldn’t get enough of the views. So glad I did this excursion and highly recommend it. Just be prepared for a very long day.

One of the highlights on a trip in New Zealand. An amazing pkace. You see the place where Pacific Ocean and Tasman Sea meet each other. It's a important Maori place so respect their rules when beeing there! and enjoy your walk to the lighthouse.

A long, tiring day but worth it - pick up from accommodation around 7 to 7.30 am and back around 6 to 6.30 pm. I was there probably 15 years ago and can't remember the cost but to date it is $150 for adults and $$75 for children, including lunch. May seem expensive but we have a few stops on the way - Puketi Kauri Forest, 90 mile Beach (beach stop), Te Paki Stream - sand dune borading (bring along spare tee and shorts and towel) and the Ancient Kauri Kingdom (shop selling kauri gum products). Tour include morning and afternoon tea breaks at own cost. It pays to pack some sandwiches, chips, muchies, water especially if you have young kids.

Cape Reinga has changed since I was last there - there were no shops, post office where we sent off our letters to friends and families - from the northernmost accessible point in New Zealand. But I love the way it was beautifully done up today - most respectful to the Maori tradition and culture of farewelling their loved one.

A place definitely worth visiting!!

Thoroughly enjoyed this day tour with Paul from Explore. Riding along the beach next to the waves was awesome. Sand boarding looked exciting but more for the younger ones. Lunch provided was a little ordinary but on a beautiful beach. Beautiful views from Cape Reinga.
