We had a great time with Marty, he knows his subject well, his tour was a great value and having flexibility in meeting place and time was key for us.

Marty was a knowledgeable guide with a passion for the far north. A personalised tour without the time constraints of the larger operators. Would recommend :-)

My husband and I caught a ferry from Russell to Paihia at 7 am on September 23rd and caught The Dune Rider with Explore NZ at 7.30 for a fun packed day. Our driver was Paul and he just made the trip so enjoyable with his bright and friendly personality.
We first had a coffee stop at Taipa where a packed lunch was waiting for us to pick up and we watched some of America!s Cup race unfold, visited Gumdiggers park, then onto Cape Reinga ( 212 km drive) for some fantastic views, then spent I hour sand boarding down steep sand dunes at Te Paki stream which was great fun, (it is hard going to walk up the sand dune before you can Sandboard down if you are over 65 though!) then we drove along the 90 Mile beach, saw a seal and even stopped and saw 4 wild horses in the dunes, then on to see some very old kauri trees, plus a spiral staircase made of it which was again unbelievable! Finally finishing up at Mangonui Fish shop and had snapper which was mouth watering!
Useful tip is to do a tour combo with Hole in the rock because it works out better than doing them separately money wise! We paid $ 350 for them both.
Another tip, wear shorts or at least have them under long pants, jeans are no good and wear sandals or thongs. Also take a hat.
This trip is great value for money and even more so if you book the combo.

I went on the tour on the 8th of August 2013. I started the journey at 7.20am in Paihia, New Zealand and the bus was on time. Waited for 5 minutes and the journey starts at 7.25am.

Our first item on the list is to the Puketi Kauri Forest. At the reserve where you will walk amongst 2,000 years old Kauri trees. Boardwalks were built to enjoy the tree surroundings. It was build in 1990 for Queen Elizebeth II after officiating the Commonwealth Games that year.

After that we have a short stop at at a small town in Mangonui. Mangonui had become a building centre for whalers and traders. It was a busy town until 1931 when new roads were built and became the main transportation. Now Mangonui is a much quitter place and served the World's Famous Fish & Chips.

Along the way you will see magnificent and gorgeous views. It was like hand painted. How great God creation is. I was amazed.

Finally our destination, Cape Reinga or in Maori Te Rerenga Wairua which were named by Maori guy named Kupe. Kupe is the earliest known voyager from Hawaiki, the original home of Maori in the eastern Pacific. The other name the cape holds is Cape Maria van Diemen.. Dutch voyager Abel Tasman named the cape after the governor's wife in the Dutch East Indies. MashaAllah what a beautiful sight and the cold breeze will take your breath away.

Cape Reinga marks the separation of the Tasman Sea from the Pacific Ocean. Part of the Adventures Day Tours package is to surf giant sand dunes at the Te Paki. Going up the dune is challenging but going down the is Awesome! Adrenaline rush people and it was fun.

The tours ends with speed along the sand at 90 Mile Beach. The bus driver will take you on a bus with 00km/h on the speedo meter along the coastal line. It was crazy fun.

If you are thinking if you want to go or not..Go!I tell you. Here is the website where you can book your tour package. http://nakedbus.com/nz/activities/search/?location=Bay+of+Islands

We took the Dune Rider with EXplore NZ.The driver Daniel was very good explaining sites on the way.A packed lunch was provided and was good. A fantastic ride up the 90 mile beach where the sand and views were amazing. After diving up the river bed we stopped to 'Boogie board' down the 50 ft sand dunes-awsome. Then on to Cape Reinga lighthouse to view the northen tip of the island. We came back to the Gumdiggers park- a facinating new find of swamp Kauri trees. Very unspoilt and very hands on...a 'Must see' place with so much history. On then to Mangonui Fish shop for an excellent meal. Absolutely wonderful day out would really recommend this tour operator.A whole day out but well worth the time.
