A "cut above the rest" they say... This place is the worst in Cat Ba. Like everyone else has said, rooms are deteriorating, noisy, staff are rude to the point of being aggressive, and the exchange rate is the highest I've come accross in Vietnam so far. While most other's do 20,000 dong to the USD, this place does 22,000 dong. The lady quoted us 15 per night then changed it to 20 when we checked out - luckily we argued our way out of it and payed 15.

Do not stay here.

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hostel for 2 nights and we didn't feel welcomed at all! Instead of 12 USD a night the dodgy young man told us in the end that the exchange rate had changed overnight. Yeah, right... Simply not nice.
Staff in a whole was no good. They were shouting at each other while we just wanted to get a coffee in the morning, so we left to get one next door as even after going directly to them and asking them didn't change our waiting situation. It just went on like this: They just do not care.

The second evening we wanted to chill out in the really nice area with pool table, overlooking Cat ba Town harbor. First evening had been nice there, as a lot of travellers were around. Just note: When there is a lot of people it's noisy in your room too. As on the second night we were soon the only guests (part of the staff watched TV and went to bed on the sofas in the chill out area) they simply turned off the lights - while we still had our drinks. Not nice either.

The room was ok, but the feeling in a whole was simply crap. Only two girls who we met the first evening down at the restaurant were helpful - the rest of the bunch isn't welcoming at all. It's a rip off.

It's a shame they are "the pick" of the LP. Our waitress was chewing gum and wearing large headphones while serving... Thanks to the bar on the first floor it's difficult to sleep in this place. There are much cheaper, better and friendlier options on Cat Ba.

According to Lonely Planet, this hotel is recommended, perhaps the Noble House paid Lonely Planet to say this because I can not imagine ANYONE would enjoy their experience here. There are far better hotels for 5 dollars less than the noble house charges. The staff is incredibly rude for NO REASON. The whole hotel smells like a toilet. When we arrived, I went out on the balcony only to find USED bandaids and beer bottles, discusting. Clearly this hotel does not know a thing about hospitality. The happy hour is buy one get one free but when you ask for your second drink the staff rolls their eyes at you or goes to sleep on the couch. Upon checking out our passports were thrown on to the table. Another note, Slo Pony adventures is way overpriced. After one night we switched to the Cat Ba Dream Hotel and had a far more enjoyable stay, for a cheaper price.

Didn't stay here as we read the appalling reviews.
However, we did go in for a beer at around 21.30 as there was not much else on offer and we were told we had to go upstairs to the noisy bar. We said we just want to chat and sit outside and she said no. We walked away and suddenly she changed her mind.
Miserable girl, totally NFI.
Beer price OK, food outrageous (didn't bother) and other drinks very pricey.
Entertainment was provided by one of the girls getting beaten up by a Vietnamese guy in the bar. None of the locals intervened and having read that it's not a good idea for a foreigner to get involved we let them get on with it. The other local guys just watched on....nice these Vietnamese.
