So glad we did his trip and visited one of the hightlights of vietnam in a relaxed and quiet manner! Few other tourist boats, good food on board, honest crew,...

“Great Han La Bay Day Trip”
Reviewed September 1, 2013

My friend and I did the boating, kayaking, swimming 1 day excursion from Cat Ba Island. They only allow 15 people per boat and we only had 9 in our group. The guide showed us some really cool caves and lagoons with the kayaks. The swimming beach was very cool, but there were a lot of jellyfish. The lunch served on the boat was family style and was one of the best meals I had in Vietnam. Overall, well worth the $28!

Dear Leelerbug,
Thank you a lot for your interest in our trip. For one day trip, we just organize the trip of maximum 15 people so that you don't feel that it's crowded. We are still doing our best to make every trips in Halong bay better and better. Our thanks once again and have good time!
Regards,
Mr. Tung

“Not as good as we were expecting and lunch was abysmal”
Reviewed July 9, 2013 via mobile

After reading some great reviews for the $28 day trip from cat ba that included snorkelling and kayaking me and my friends booked this trip. It was on a nice boat, the so-called guide spoke good English but rather than guide us much he sat with the captain most of the time and when the boat stopped told us where to go and what we were doing. The kayaking was fun. After that lunch was served at 11:35am! So early but it was nothing that was promised - we were told we would get a seafood lunch which it certainly was not. Bowls of spinach which was ok, steamed rice, cold eggs, oily spring rolls and dry old chicken. The lunch was a real lowlight and absolutely revolting. They also had a small plate of watermelon not enough for everyone to have a piece. We barely ate anything mainly just rice and spinach. We then sailed in the afternoon to another spot to see a cave then for more swimming and snorkeling if you wanted.

Caution for swimming though - the current was really strong so swimming back to the boat my boyfriend got cramp and luckily people around him took him back to the boat but on the boat getting anyone to help was difficult, the guide scurried around trying to find a rope but by the time he found one he was already back to the boat!

All in all the boat trip was fairly average, the lunch terrible luckily the weather held out and was very pleasant. Shame.

“Excellent tour of La Han Bay-highly recommend”
Reviewed June 25, 2013

The day-long boat tour that we took with Cat Ba Ventures was excellent. Hours of gliding through picturesque waters with rock formations all around us. Our tour guide on the boat was very interactive and interested in talking to us and with us about what we were seeing around us. The kayaking was fantastic- we were the only group in the coves he took us too, which included going through a grotto to get to an enclosed lake filled with non-stinging jellyfish that lit up the water like a rainbow. Lunch was delicious, and we stopped to swim twice in gorgeous grottos. A full day on the boat was magical. At $28 for everything, this was one of the best values on our vacation. Highly recommend. Mr.Tung also helped us sort out taxis back to our hotel.

“The boat'n'bus trip to Hanoi totally does not worth the money”
Reviewed May 23, 2013

It seems like a good option from Cat Ba if you visited Lan Ha bay but not Halong bay. The boat trip itself is indeed nice but it covers maybe 1/5th of the trip and the reality is that it totally doesn't worth the money. Booking a full day trip on Halong bay and going back to Hanoi using Hoang Long services is a much clever choice.

For those who need explanations:
We paid $18 for traveling in great discomfort (and to give you an idea of what I call discomfort, I don't mind traveling in the hard seat sections of the Vietnamese trains).
We were 16+ people fully loaded with heavy backpacks squeezed in a tiny bus on seats that were so uncomfortable that they were ashamed of themselves. Actually, buses is more correct as we had to change several times from a tiny bus to another tiny bus. I got the feeling that this disorganization could have been better organized.
Now, to stay objective, the lunch was edible and the English speaking guide indeed guided us ...like "You! You! You! You go there! Now!". So, technically, I guess it's not inappropriate to call the guy a guide. Still, I was naively expecting something else.
Totally didn't worth the money ...which is probably why we were the only ones to pay that sum - the other travellers had the trip included on a three days tour they paid $55 all included. hmmm.

Dear
Thank you for your review and let us know about your problem of the transportation from Cat Ba to Hanoi via Ha Long city. We are very sad to know that problem.
We only sell the ticket for a tour company at Hanoi Old Quarter who organized the boat and bus back Hanoi for you.
We promise, we will not be an agent for them.
Best regards!
